Castaway Cay 5k

What is a good beach area to have my wife go to for snorkeling and letting my 9 & 11 play on the beach while I run the 5k? I can catch up with them after the run

Your kids can go to Scuttles Cove while you run the 5k. They let the kids of runners check in early on their way to the 5K starting line.

I recommend right outside the snorkel lagoon, which is also very close to the 5k Start and Finish line!

Last year we were late leaving St Thomas so we got to Castaway Cay late so they decided to do the 5k on the ship. We had massages scheduled on the island and those got cancelled as well which was unfortunate because those were the two things we were looking forward to the most. Hope things go as planned next time around.

How did they do the 5K on the ship?

Yeah, running on a steel deck sounded no fun to me whatsoever. I opted for a few miles on the treadmill that day.

I've run many, many laps on Deck 4 on the Magic, Wonder and Fantasy and it is not steel. On the classic ships it is like a teak wood and on the newer ships it looks similar, but is coated with something. But the prospect of running with a lot of other people would be tough because of the tight squeeze on both ends of the ship.

I certainly understand that. I hate the treadmill too...just not as much as running around the boat. lol

The one thing I hate about the treadmills at Disney is how they face the side of the ship. I was running the morning we pulled into St Thomas, the ship was swaying left to right (which means I was running up and down) but the objects were moving side to side. It was quite disorienting.

It isn't an official runDisney event. It's just a fun event that DCL does.

The 5K done for every stop at CC is not an official runDiosney event, but there is a once a year 5K on the island that is an official runDisney event (and that one is not free). If interested, go to http://www.rundisney.com/disneyworld-marathon/ and look for the Castaway Challenge.

That's true on the Fantasy (and I assume the Dream as well), but on the classics they face the front. It makes any movement (if you're brave enough to run on them while the ship is moving) much more natural.
