I had what I hope is an odd experience with a cast member. We were in MGM and getting ice cream at one of the little ice cream trucks. The cast members's name tag said that he was Eric from a town in my state that happens to be a short distance from where we live. I exclaimed and oohed about it and he told me that his manager made him where the name tag but that he wasnt really from there. In fact, he was from Puerto Rico. Really, I said. Wow. I asked if he knew anything at all about the location in case he was asked and he said that he thought it was about 4 hours from Chicago. I told him,no, it was closer to about one hour from Chicago. We laughed and then I moved on. But, this made me wonder. Is this the norm? Was this a one time thing? Did he maybe forget his name tag at home so they gave him this one?
I kind of was disappointed.

If a CM has forgotten their nametag, they will be given one backstage. It does happen.

This is completely understandable for security. However, slightly disappointing. I love to read the name tags and see where people are from. Now I won't know if they are correct.

So you start the conversation with, "Hi, Robert, if that IS your real name..."

I used to do that ALL the time. I have been Judi,Pat,Juan(EEK!),Anna, and Michelle. But if anyone called me by my name I would always kindly say I'm Julia :D.

CMs are required to wear a nametag but it does not have to be theirs, it can have another name on it. What is wierd is a male can wear a name tag with a female name lol

When I worked at CRT, my friend at RnR and I were bored for a while one summer and we switched nametags for about 3 weeks (we meant for it to be a couple days, but we just kept forgetting to switch back)....So I was Maureen from Middletown, NJ and she was Katie from Amelia Island, FL.....and I answered to Maureen for a while....it was pretty funny....

Our managers had double nametags made for us cuz it seemed like everybody had lost theirs and another lady stole my real one cuz she wanted to be from Florida and I had to be from Kentucky!

Yes, this happened to me today at DHS. The woman taking our orders name's tag said, Glenn and she was definatley not a Glenn. So I asked her if she forgot her name tag and she laughed and said yes!

I forgot my name tag one time in my roomate's car. I was Lisa all day. It was one of my longest days as a CM b/c people kept calling me Lisa and I wouldn't respond.

That's called "encouragement" to NOT forget your nametag next time.

The other day at Crystal Palace our server was wearing a name tag that said Heath from Orlando, FL but he introduced himself as Ron and explained that's what happens when you leave your name tag at home... it was quite funny.

When I was out the threat was if you forgot your nametag you had to wear one with the name of the opposite sex on it :rotfl:

We met CM Brenna (who is a disboards member) Only, that day, her name was Christine

Interesting.

I always look at the tags and the hometowns to see if a CM is from somewhere near me in Michigan (a lot have been). I'll usually start up a conversation with them. So far, no one's been wearing the wrong tag but I'll be on the lookout now. Maybe I'll quiz them to see if they're telling the truth :rotfl:

It happens all the time, there is also generic ones like "Chip/Dale/etc" from "orlando, fl" I know a friend was Dale for a while when I met her and when she got her real tag it was totally disorienting to call her by her name instead of Dale in front of guests XD

When I worked at TDS no two castmembers could have the same name. There were quite a few people who had to go by their middle names at work because there was already a Chris, Todd, etc.
