Cast Member Steals Phone

I can't decide which is funnier...the captions by the girl whose phone was stolen or the Disers who are adament that the guy is innocent b/c he is a Disney CM. I have read on here before the blind bias toward Disney by some people, but this is my first time seeing it for myself.
Ya, he MAY have a good reason why he had the phone. But c'mon, if this happened on Carnival you KNOW these same people would be calling for capital punishment!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE DCL! But I also LOVE my kids, yet if they had been taking pictures with a stolen Iphone, I wouldn't give them a free pass b/c I think they're cute!

YES!
As a former CM, I can offer my own two cents.
Just because you wear the ears doesn't mean you drink the kool aid as well. There is a dark and seamier side to working the Mouse.. just like every other company.

To some people it was a religion and the Look Book, your bible. To others it was a life long dream because you believed in the philosophy behind it all...and to others, it was easy pickings. All those hot sweaty tourists who checked their brains in at the front desk. How easy to scam them.. how simple to skim off the top.
Who knows what really happened.. you know there will be an investigation and most likely this guy will be dropped off at the nearest port. Sure he could be innocent, but he can be just as guilty.. and mostly, he was wicked dumb to not turn it in when he first found it.

i think its funny that the focus is on 'nelson'. he is in several of the photos, granted, however why think he took the phone. i would just assume someone close to nelson has the phone. someone else who likes to take photos and does not show up in any of them. theres nothing there that says it was nelson or did i miss something.
i feel sorry for the guy if he didn't take it cause sure as the sun shines people are going to be picking him out and avoiding him on the ship. way to ruin his reputation.

Actually, that's a consideration. I have no photos of myself on my iPhone ... but many photos of my friends.... Nelson might just be an innocent friend. The problem with those captions, funny as they are, is that it's possible none of those crew members know that the iphone is stolen but the captions make it sound like they're all in on it. It will be interesting to find out who they recovered the phone from.

I agree.

Also, we don't know everything about the story. Like I said, it could have change hands before he got it and he didn't know there was an issue with it. Or maybe it's someone else who is using it and he just happens to be in most of the photos. Who knows at this point?:confused3

And I'm not saying this because he's a Disney CM. They are people like everyone else. The fact that it's a Disney CM is irrelevant to whether he's guilty or innocent. I don't expect more from them. I just think Disney finds it important to hire those who will "fit" into their ideals. But no one is ever above reproach.

You know........if you sit back and think about this......its alot of noise over a used phone.:lmao:.....what is it worth?.$100.00!!!

Yes it is still stealing and the CM will likely be fired:scared1: unless there are some facts we are not aware of........;)

So what? What does the value of the phone have to do with anything? It's still a violation of trust and a crime if the phone (another's personal property) was stolen by DCL cast member.

iPhones don't cost $100. Plus, that's just sunk cost, which is all well and good if you're a business, but not so much as an individual. The $100 (which was probably at least $200) will have to be added to the $200+ to replace the phone, plus the hassle, plus the fact that IT'S ILLEGAL to steal other people's property!!!

A lot of noise my rear end, if that had been a Carnival employee, you'd have started a thread calling for a public hanging!

We aren't talking about chump change here. A used iPhone 4S regularly sells for $400+ on ebay for the lowest model. If you have a loaded model it is $600+ and that is USED.

Plus if the person who had the phone stolen was not eligible for an upgrade on their cellular plan Apple charges $649 for the low model and $849 for the loaded model. So this isn't just $100 or even a $200 theft we are talking about.

Even if the phone wasn't stolen but was misplaced the CM had the duty of turning that phone into lost and found. Which if it was my phone I would have contacted GS immediately on the ship reporting it lost. So Disney could have returned that phone to me. If you find $500+ cash wouldn't you report it so the person who lost it could get it back?

I think the point is that if the phone was stolen while you were shopping at the mall or something and then you located it this way a month later, there would not be a national news story, a long dis posting or have how many thousand facebook shares now?

When everything is said and done I'm sure that now that the phone has been located, the culprit will be investigated and there will be consequences. It is more than I can guarantee if the same thing happened stateside to you.

No way I want to weigh in on the debate whether people are giving too much benefit of the doubt because it's DCL.

Nah, ok, I do want to weigh in.

If this same exactly story with the same exact details had come out and it was Carnival, I find it hard to believe Nelson would be granted the same latttude on this board. In fact, I know he wouldn't.

But, whatever. Clearly, the best parts of this story have nothing to do with Disney and more to do with the technology and the funny captions. The sequence where Nelson's girlfriend has her hand over her face, and then the "hooker pirates" and then the girlfriend getting over it is just awesome.

Actually the funny thing is there are lots of media stories of people using Find my iPhone and iCloud to find stolen iPads/iPhones/iPods. This isn't new. There was a meth lab found when the police went to investigate a stolen iPad. This just has never happened before because Apple opened up a new way to help us find our stolen devices. I bet you see more and more articles like this not just because it was a ship or Disney.

Well I am glad that we had an honest stateroom host on our Hawaiian cruise. He was a real nice guy, I can't believe I don't remember his name. He was our host for stateroom 7072, anyone else have him for a host and know his name?
Anyway, there were several times when we left our SLR camera, Laptop, and cellphones sitting right on the vanity table. I was even careless enough to leave my wallet sitting on the table with about $500. Like I said we are fortunate that we didnt get dinged for being so careless.

Sorry I wasn't trying to direct my comment at you. I was just stating that because something is USED doesn't mean it doesn't have value. I was more focused on the comment from Skipper that stated that since the device was used it was $100 or LESS.

In fact I regularly sell my used phones when I am eligible for an upgrade. Since I own smart phones (Android and Blackberry) they usually fetch around $200 USED and that is a 2 year old phone. It actually pays for me to upgrade to my newer model because I buy them subsidized by the phone company. So even though the iPhones sell for $200 new subsidized doesn't mean the stolen value is $200 it is actually much more.

:thumbsup2 I knew what you meant and which comment you were addressing. It's a waste of breath, though. He's still saying that it's a used phone and only worth $100. Which is not only inaccurate, it's beside the point.

And that reminds me, I still have my old AT&T iPhone sitting in a closet that I need to trade in to Verizon. Last I checked, they were going to give me $200 for it.
