Does anyone know if you get a cast member discount for DVC if you work in a Disney Store? I'd be willing to work a few shifts a week to get a discount.

Disclaimer: All of my info is 2nd hand. It is worth what you are paying.

A few years ago Disney stores became dis-associated with Disney (I do not know the details). I did hear that Disney is buying them back... but once again, I do not know the details.

I understand that Disney cast members and their immediate families get a 25% discount on DVC. I believe they must work for 90 days before becoming eligible (I considered buying DD2 a one way ticket for our next DVC trip :rotfl2: (just kidding)).

Current rumors are that the current discount will either be eliminated, or reduced to 15% in June or (more likely) July.

I was standing in line for Toy Story Mania this morning and struck up a conversation with a past Disney store employee. She said that when she bought into SSR she received 20% off. She did mention that Children's Place had bought the Disney stores out and now Disney was buying them back, but only 2/3rds. Something to think about.

All Disney CMs, including TDS did get a discount for buying DVC. My recent understanding is that the discount is being reduced in the near future, but I don't know if TDS CMs are even included in the discount any longer. As of May 1, DIsney did buy back TDS from Childrens Place, but will be closing 98 of those stores.

It might still be worthwhile though - I think the prior TDS discount was 15%.

Wow, really? DW and I are considering buying in and my CM-Sister's 25% discount is a significant piece of the puzzle for us.

The cast member discount is 25% until June 30. Effective July 1, the discount will become 15%. I am not sure if the discount applies to the Disney Store employees though.

My wife and I just bought into DVC during our April/May trip to WDW. I was a Disney Store employee under the Children's Place and now am a Cast Member at the store now owned by Disney.

When we returned home I called our guide, he checked, called me back and said I as a Disney Store Cast Member get a 15% discount for DVC. All I have to do is fax him a copy of my Cast ID. He said he would rework the paper work to reflect the discount and send it to me in the mail.

Just a correction, it is 89 stores. I, unfortunately, work at one of those 89 stores, and once closed, will be transferring to a store in my area that is remaining open. I am looking very forward to buying if I get a discount!!

Does anybody know if this is only off the initiation, or off annual dues as well?

Brandy

I was told that Cast Members who own DVC are under contract to only sell their ownership back to Disney. They can't sell to anyone else.

I heard the same thing. I think there is a time limit on that requirement... and I think the buy-back price is favorable. Once again... I do not have first hand experience... but I can check with a friend who's son is a CM which gives her the opty to buy at the 25% discount.

I have been joking with DD2 that I am going to only buy her a 1 way ticket to MCO for our next trip ;). I'll buy her the return ticket when she earns me an employee discount!

Related question: Can family members/CMs also get the discount on add-on contracts?

Thanks for the correction.

The CM discount is applied only to the purchase price (and after any other incentives). It does not extend to any other DVC fees including the annual maintenance fees.

No, the contract says that, if we decide to sell, Disney must first be given the opportunity to buy back the points at the price purchased, but they can refuse to do so. We are then free to sell on the open market.

When we bought, we were told that they rarely exercise this option (it would be alright with me if they did). I know others have posted that Disney has passed on this option for them.

This is correct. One of my own DVC resale contracts was sold to me by a Cast Member, in fact. :)

dhluvsDisney did you purchase DVC points at WDW/DL or did you do it by mail. Just curious because my guide said I have to fax a copy of my Cast ID in order to get the 15% discount. Only problem is we have not received our new ID's yet. Do you have yours? If not, what did you use for proof of being a Disney Store cast member? Just curious because my transaction is on "hold" pending me faxing the ID.

Thanks,
Dennis-

Is it still a 25% discount? I assume that Pixar employees are included? I really wish I had known this when I added 100 points last summer!:headache:
What is the current price per point? This just may convince me to add to our point total:cool1:

I was not aware of this discount when we added on 100 pts. last year. I take it it's too late to redeem the discount?

Does anyone know if Disney Store cast member discounts are all the same as they were when Disney owned the stores before Children's Place? We used to get 35% or 20% (based on length of service) on merchandise. I think it was 20% on food. If they are available again, what do we need to show as proof of employment? We still have no IDs. My trip is 2 weeks from today.
