1st Time cruisers need a little advice on this subject. Should we carry cash or travelers checks when shopping in St. J, St. M, and St. T? DD had her identity stolen last year and we are a bit spooked to use credit cards in unfamiliar places.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,

I totally understand you being leery about using credit cards .. I highly recommend traveler's cheques or American Express's traveler's card (basic replacing the need for traveler's cheques and not connected to any bank accounts or credit cards).

I was concerned about this as well, I spoke with my bank and they recommended one of the bank cards that you load money onto. She also told me that if I am going to be out of the United States and plan on using my check card that I need to let them know a few days in advance so they can note it on the account or my charging privelages may be stopped until I contact them, she said it is for added protection.
I think I will do both the loadable cc and traveler checks, just to be safe, don't want to put all my eggs in one basket maybe even a small amount of cash.
