Actually, you can get a gift card replaced if it's lost or stolen (but probably not while you're on vacation)- I speak from experience here.
If you're concerned with having too much card and don't want to use credit cards, I'd also suggest a gift card, whether it's a Disney card, or a pre paid Amex/Visa/Mastercard etc.

This can be true for Disney GCs only if you have the receipt and the GC was purchased directly from Disney. Otherwise, you can be out of luck. Personally, I wouldn't risk it with Disney GCs. If you absolutely MUST have a GCs to put you cash on, an AmEx or Visa GC is a better option. But I stand by my original statement that it would make more sense to use a debit card than it does to tie your cash up on a GC of any sort.

Actually, I had Disney gift cards that I had bought at Walgreens & Shaws supermarket that I was able to have replaced with my original receipt. Personally, I think prefer to charge everything and get whatever credit card rewards I have and use the cash to pay off the bill...we like also like to use gift cards that we've earned from rewards sites like mypoints and quick rewards...

We did the same as a previous poster. We are Canadian so we turned our saved up dollars into American currency every so often before the trip and had nearly $1000 dollars in cash when we went.

I used envelopes for each day, with the estimated amount needed for tips and purchases, then threw in an extra $20 or $40 for misc. spending and then left the rest in the room safe. We had no problems and it really saved us from charging up a storm.

We even came home with unspent money! It's just harder to part with cash...even at Disney!! LOL

See, now you have me thinking I should just envelope the 200 dollars per day for food. Whenever there is any left over, I will roll it into the next day or stick it in the souvenir envelope. I am liking the idea more and more.

I hated checking the credit cards over and over. Especially since some exchange fees didn't get added until we got home, and holds for the rental car got put on the first day and fell off before the end of the trip even though we still had the car. Universal overcharged us and I wasn't sure if that had been put back on, because it takes up to 3 or 4 days for things to reflect online. It was an annoyance to check it every night and try to figure out what was charged and what wasn't and what was pending etc.
