Actually, you can get a gift card replaced if it's lost or stolen (but probably not while you're on vacation)- I speak from experience here.
If you're concerned with having too much card and don't want to use credit cards, I'd also suggest a gift card, whether it's a Disney card, or a pre paid Amex/Visa/Mastercard etc.
This can be true for Disney GCs only if you have the receipt and the GC was purchased directly from Disney. Otherwise, you can be out of luck. Personally, I wouldn't risk it with Disney GCs. If you absolutely MUST have a GCs to put you cash on, an AmEx or Visa GC is a better option. But I stand by my original statement that it would make more sense to use a debit card than it does to tie your cash up on a GC of any sort.
