Casey's Buns

Is there really a difference in taste between white and wheat buns? I can't taste a difference with the burgers and chicken sandwiches.

Wheat buns have a slight sweetness when compared to the typical white buns as well as the fact they dry out quicker (hence the "dry" bun that falls apart). The differences are probably more detectable in a hotdog because the bun to filler (meat, toppings, condiments) ratio is more even. Usually there is more bun surrounding a hotdog compared to the bun on a burger/chicken sandwich. So yes the buns (even if identically made) can taste different with a hotdog but seem fine on a burger.

I had a casey hot dog a few weeks ago, and the dried out bun was my complaint. The bun pretty much fell apart before I could finish it. It made it very messy to eat. Some things are a tradition for us to do when we go to Disney. I wish they would stop messin' with traditions. Next the hot dog will be made of chicken.

Wheat products take more time in the oven when baked which in turn pulls out more moisture. If you get a really fresh wheat bun they are wonderful, but they do not have as good of a shelf-life as white buns.....even if the wheat bun is not out of date, it will still be considerably drier and less soft than a white bun of the same age. I am wondering if the problem may have been a supplier issue rather than an conscious choice to switch products??? A previous post said they got some white, some wheat in the same order, so when I heard this I thought the problem may have been a supplier foul-up or possibly a shortage they had to cover due to larger than expected crowds....... I guess we will have to wait and see what shakes out!

I told my wife I was gonna do the same thing. She's already annoyed enough with me since I insist on bringing sweet n' sour sauce into the parks for the chicken tenders, since all they have is barbecue. If things keep up like this, we're just gonna start bringing in our own picnic basket.

I already take my own Heinz ketchup to fast food restaurants here. I am not a fan of vinegar and that is the main ingredient of their ketchup (they also charge for that nasty stuff). Off topic, but I was surprised McDonald's bottles ketchup and sells it in the local Italian grocery stores. It's not Heinz!

Instead of a picnic basket, take a fanny pack. SHould be big enough for a couple buns and a bottle of sweet & sour sauce. :rolleyes1

Thanks for posting the email. I sent mine off. I am very disappointed to read this, I love going to Cosmis Rays and getting a burger loaded with toppings. Sounds like I will be eating it with a fork when my bun falls apart:sad2:

I love that it can be a choice offered, but why make it the only option? Grrrr:mad:

to all the health food junkies out there, just when did putting a wheat bun underneath a hot dog make it a healthy option? :confused3

Still looking for an answer...

Are the hot dogs steamed, boiled, grilled, roller dogs or other?

Thanks!

Count me in as another who HATES white bread / buns. Yet I HATE buns that fall apart both of mine did last week when I ate at Caseys. The new hot dogs Caseys is serving is very nasty I couldn't finish my hot dog either time. Thought 1st bad hot dog was a fluke no they are NASTY! And to top it all off the hot dog is now much smaller than the bun!

I couldn't agree more! DH and I ate there (our first time at Casey's, BTW) prior to the MVMCP on Dec. 18th and we were so disappointed! Our hot dogs were NASTY! First who knows how long they were sitting in the warming box because there were hundreds of hot dogs stored in there. Then to be served on a wheat bun (I LOVE wheat bread but NOT on a FATTY hot dog, lol) and be quite a bit smaller than the bun...well we thought it was a huge waste of money and time.

Would everyone that's going soon please report back and let us know if they're still serving the wheat buns everywhere?

I'm hoping there was some crazy reason they couldn't get white bread!

We went to MK for the day yesterday. Although I didn't get a hot dog from Cassey's, I did snoop and the buns I saw appeared to be regualr white buns.
(Sorry to all of those that I appeared to be starring at!):)

My DD got a hot dog at the stand that's out in front of Space Montain and they were definatly white buns. There were also stacks and stacks of packaged buns behind the cart and they were all white.

Maybe Disney was running a test or something?

That is AWESOME news!!

Sorry, I've only read 4 pages of replies and had to post my initial thought:

A Ballpark themed place in Walt Disney World selling hotdogs on WHEAT??
That's so UN-American it's insulting!

Seriously, that would be like serving whole wheat baked funnel cake with Splenda. really just doesn't hit the spot does it?

Say it ain't so !!!

They cannot mess with Casey's. THis thread is making me want to cry. (but then ya'll say something funny and it makes me giggle) WHEAT BUNS?!?!?! THe wrongness of that has already been stated by everyone before me. I'll just say thanks to tmarquez for the glimmer of hope, and I will be anxiously awaiting the update from Pumbaa. We're going in 2 wks and this is vital information. We love Casey's and eat there every time.
