Linda Kenney Baden is making a big deal, agreeing with Baez, that there may be something suspicious about the 9.1.1. call that Cindy made. That when she made that call, and yells to George about Casey admitting that Caylee was missing and kidnapped, there was no response from George. That he didn't yell "Oh my God! Where is she? Let's go get her!" or anything like that. Don't you think that George could just be trying to digest what he just heard? Did he just walk in on that whole thing? I mean, I think I would be standing there stunned if that was just yelled at me.

I remember when we were told almost 10 years ago that our DD probably had Leukemia (she didn't :)). I didn't start screaming. I was stunned. I sat there and continued to listen to the doctor, and then got up and walked to the window and sobbed. But really, at first, I was just trying to digest what he had just said. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. And it wasn't suddenly barked at me, like Cindy yelling to George.

Jose Baez collected two hundred thounsand dollars from a book or something like that from ABC. He then had to ask the state to pay now as Casey is indigent. Jose was questioned about the money he did not want to answer and he eventually admitted to getting that much and where it came from. So the state is now fitting the bill. And he worried about Kronk collecting a reward.:sad2:
Someone (who??) sold pictures of Caylee for that money to pay for the defense, didn't they? I can't keep anything straight anymore!

I think the way you do, I would have been in shock if I had been told my granddaughter was missing. It might have taken him a little bit to digest the information.

::yes:: AND, in those moments of shock, or even before she yelled to him, he may have caught on to the fact that she was on the phone with 9.1.1. Something IS being done. Maybe he mumbled "oh my God" in shock, and was too far from the phone for anyone on the other end, or the recording, to hear it. I think that Baez grasping at straws like that makes him look desperate.

HLN expert made comment that Jose's commentS/accusations in court are privileged. He cannot be sued.

Jose is sleazy.

Wonder if George and Cindy will disown their child now.

rigs,

I have a question. How will the defense try and substantiate the molestation charges without putting Casey on the stand? Do they have to ? Can a defense attorney just shoot things out there without proof? I figure if Casey doesn't testify to it then its all hearsay, right?

They don't have to prove anything. What would the molestation have to do with her guilt or innocence anyway? It's irrelevant.

He could have asked dad on cross, isn't it true that you let her drown in the pool. Doesn't matter if he has a basis for it because questions are not evidence. What lawyers say in opening and closing are not evidence. Juries can only consider the evidence presented - testimony and exhibits - and see if the People have proven their case.

Yes Baez tried to keep it out and that it wasnt relevant to be revealed, They said no how much did you collect and then he said the money amount and then they asked where it came from. He hated to admit it was from selling caylee on ABC. And he is so worried about Kronk collecting. There was another video where there was some on the defense team who only got 22 thousnad and every bit of it went for their expenses. If you recall during jury selection I believe it was mason who said they were working pro bono

I only remember the case from the first few years... Are George & Cindy still married? Does anyone know?

This sleazebag lawyer, I know he's only doing his job, but he went straight to the gutter today. He wasn't even halfway believable. I know, trying to plant a seed of doubt, but still...

I've seen people reference Baez's inexperience? He has 3 other lawyers at the table right? Why are they not taking more of this on? They all look older than he is. I'm not familiar with any of them, I just know they are all working the case pro bono.

can George sue him?

It's really tough to win a slander case in the US.

What prevents any DA from making stuff up in the future?

What do you mean by that? It's possible that something the prosecutor said in opening isn't true or the evidence won't come in the way it was laid out. Is that making it up? Defense counsel wasn't there and neither was the prosecutor. It's the way the game is played.

We now all have an image burned into our retinas that may or may not be true and Baez can simply say such filth because his lying client claimed it?

He made a criminal accusation!

I am beginning to question Baez's credibility in this way: I am beginning to think he may be corrupt. Casey loses---she is throwing him under the bus.

How do you know if she's lying?

Corrupt because he's defending his client? It's his job. It's not always easy or fair to victims, but he's doing his job.

I watched one of Nancy Grace's interviews with him from when the kid was still missing. She was insisting he violate attorney client privilege - something that would get him disbarred - to get viewers. It's one thing to hear a civilian journalist say something like that, but another lawyer? C'mon.

I think George may have been stunned and trying to digest what he heard. I know I had a situation which I found out over the internet and all I could do was sit there and comprehend what I just read before I burst into tears. And believe me it was the shock of my life

If you go to the wftv.com page there are two videos of paul Shaffer ( ? ) explaining all these questions.

Am I missing something here? I just caught the last few minutes of HLN/Vinny Politan (sp?) and he and the 'experts' he has on are PRAISING Baez and talking about what a wonderful job he did. :confused3 They said he clearly beat down the Prosecution and was the victor in the courtroom today.

Maybe I have been watching the wrong trial....

They are still married.

The attorneys helping Baez are not licensed in Florida, I think. So I don't believe they are eligible to speak in court.

Casey was declared indigent by the state. State tax dollars are paying for her defense (but I don't believe it is permitted to be a spending spree--only what is necessary to have her right to a fair trial protected, I.e. The defense doing things lime choosing their own experts/labs to have evidence retested.). I recall Baez possibly stating during some part of jury selection that many of their litigation expert help is pro bono. He may have said they all were.

THat was a criminal defense attorney. They tend to stick together as do prosecutors when commenting on their peers.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed on both counts... I can't imagine the marriage is doing so well, it was rocky from years back... From what I remember they seem to go back and forth defending Casey, hopefully after today they've learned their lesson well.

I know this isn't exactly the same scenario but a couple weeks back a local mom reported that her 18 month old daughter had been killed in a hit and run accident. It was early in the week, I'm thinking Monday, and by Friday she and her boyfriend had been arrested. They lied. There's just no other way to say it.

Somehow, and it isn't 100% clear just yet, the baby fell out of the boyfriend's vehicle and was run over by him. He asked the mom to lie for him and she did. It's been ruled an accident. There are no plans to file murder charges.

So, just giving Casey the benefit of the doubt, if Caylee did indeed drown, it would seem there would be far less legal trouble if the truth had come out earlier. Again, that's giving Casey the benefit of the doubt.

Am I to understand right though that Jose Baez had actually mentioned during an interview that, not sure how it was actually worded, the focus was on finding Caylee? Speaking as if she were still alive?

I really wonder when the defense's version of the truth came to be.

I have to wonder when THIS particular version of Casey's "truth" came out to her attorneys. How long did she string them along with the missing child story?

Legal experts - I know defense attorneys all believe in their client's innocence, but at what point does the guilt become something they just can't defend? Or do they pride themselves on being able to defend anything?

I was thinking, let's just SUPPOSE if George was really involved, and there really was a cover up, don't you think he would have dug her a more proper grave since he loved her so much? Assuming he could have dug a grave. I'm assuming Casey couldn't & that's why she just dumped her. I can't see George, putting her in trash bags. Also, I assume he would have buried her & meter reader wouldn't have been able to find her to move her. The meter reader moving body part is probably the most laughable in the entire story.

I don't believe one shred of the defense, but I had to try to follow his defense for the heck of it. I just keep blowing holes in it.

I can't blow any holes in the prosecution's nicely laid out timeline, scientific evidence, and presentation.
