5004 for FL. 3057 for AZ. And TX is halting its reopening. Meanwhile, NY did the right thing and continues to open.

They got hit hard early, they closed down, and stayed closed. Then, they set up quarantine requirements for folks going to NY. And they reopened really slowly.

My state AZ barely shutdown. And we reopened really fast. Now our ICU beds are at 88% capacity in the summer. When flu season hits, we’ll be far worse than NY.

This is the best resource for data/stats in Wisconsin. It shows cases are steadily increasing. We're adding about 1,000 new cases every 3-4 days.

That is where I look for info and yes, it has increased these past few days. But it also spiked up a couple weeks ago too and then came down. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but Wisconsin is doing a ton of testing and that percent positive is still at a decent level. Until that percent positive is consistently higher and hospitalizations also rise for several days, which I hope doesn’t happen, I’m trying not to get concerned. I do enough of that already.

Flu season is a ways off. Let's hope AZ will be in a better position in the fall/winter.

I totally agree with you. NY was one of the first to get hit, and then and worked very hard to recover.

I hope for AZ that folks understand wearing a mask and social distancing can make a real impact on slowing spread. The hospitals can't fix this alone.

We’ll see. The mask mandate went into effect last Friday. In two weeks we should see if it has any impact. This, of course, assumes some level of compliance.

I expect cases in most southern and midwestern states to continue to rise. The rest of the states will need to figure out a way to stay on course and keep their numbers dropping. (mandatory quarantines like NY/NJ/CT maybe?)

DS24 and his roommate got tested recently in Orlando. They were originally told 72 hours for results then that changed and they were told at least a week! That’s how backed up things are.
They are assuming they are positive as they have plenty of classic symptoms such as fever, exhaustion, loss of taste/ smell etc... and The Orlando Pride soccer team is where he interns and they have had a bunch of recent positives.

We are doing well here in NJ. Fingers crossed we stay in this position as we worked very hard to get here. People are wearing masks indoors and outdoors when necessary. We are still only outdoor dining but non essential stores are now open. I have my first haircut and highlight next week and I may or may not have a countdown in my phone. : )

I think it's too early to determine how NY has done. While I agree that there are states that closed too late and then reopened too early, we won't know how well NY rebounded until they reopen. If their numbers stay low, they did great. Otherwise, they're really no different than anybody else.

If NY closed "late", then how can you say they did a good job? Sure, they're still closed now, but their decisions at the beginning affected thousands (tens of thousands?).

Knock on wood, my state (KY) has done pretty good I think. They were slow to get testing ramped up, but closed fairly early and opening slowly. We've had 538 deaths out of 14,363 positive. 368k tests.

NY started reopening weeks ago. NYC is in phase 2, the rest of the state is in phase 3. Parts of the state will enter phase 4 tomorrow.

Well, now that most places understand precautions and responses to take, the nursing homes aren’t a bad place to be now. Where else would they go? To a hospital? Better than out in the wild where irresponsible able-bodied adults pretend like either the virus doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter.

I don't know that we can say any state has done good or bad as a whole. I think all states have things they did that seemingly worked and things that didn't. All states had their 'strengths' and their 'weaknesses' when it comes down to it however some of those strengths and weaknesses carry more weight.

I can sit here all day long and be thankful that the death rate in my state is a fraction of what other states are but there's still a constant issue with privacy tight-lippedness and new breakouts still occurring at long-term care facilities (though they are getting better at quicker identification). Testing is much higher than it used to be and more and more contact tracers are being hired but I still think there's plenty more to improve on. The fact that the newest outbreak in my county (last onset date of 6/22) led to 65 cases (and counting) and 11 deaths (and counting) is so very frustrating. But on the other hand I do appreciate the willingness of the health officials both at the state level and at my county level to recognize that there is to be expected an increase in cases simply due to people going out and I've noticed some places aren't quite as open about that. They at least appear to be using a more realistic attitude even whilst making the statements regarding keeping vigilance, wear masks and keep your distance.

The virus will be around as long as it wants to. No one can without a doubt say anything about individuals behaviors that will eradicate and make it go completely away. In fact I've heard the opposite in that our hope lies with a vaccine.

What individuals behaviors can do is slow or reduce spread in a given area. But the virus is still there everywhere. Any place that can say that have zero known cases does not in fact mean the virus is gone.
