Carseats

We have always used a car seat on the plane. Not only is it safer but I think it helps DD relax as it is something that she is used to. I gate check the stroller and use it to help get the car seat to the plane. Just pile the seat on top of the stroller. Put the carry-on in the basket and roll on down to the plane. DD likes to walk and roll her little backpack full of toys cause then she is just like big brother! ;) :D

I would definitely use the full size on the plane if that is waht your children use in the car. My ds loves sitting in his car seat on the plane. It is so comfortable and he is accustomed to it.
It is defintiely was safer as well. The last flight we hit turbulance and I was reachng across the aisle to keep my 8 year old from hitting the seat in front of her but my ds(2) was safe in hisseat. I have the Edie Bauer and it holds my 40 lbsergreat.

We have always brought our carseats on the plane for our 2 DDs but they are definately a hassel to change planes. We have Britax roundabouts and tried to do what SandraLee suggested with the luggage rack with wheels and a bungee cord but the bottom of our carseat is not flat and it didn't work at all. The carseat fell off the rack in the airport with my 1 1/2 yo strapped into it. She didn't get hurt just a little startled. What we ended up doing was pulling the seat through the airport with our kids in them by the teather traps. this worked great until you hit carpet then they became a little heavy. On our last cruise we brought our double jogger stroller to gate check and basically used it to haul the carseats and carry ons around.

I bought my DD (2 years old and 24 pounds) an Evenflo booster seat that has the 5 point harness. The weight requirements start at 20 pounds and go to 80 pounds. When she is bigger, I can take the harness off and use it as a regular full back booster with the the seat belt. I like it because it weighs a lot less (10 pounds) than her carseat does and makes carrying it through the airport (in the carseat bag) a lot easier. It also looks just like a carseat, and is FAA approved. I got it on sale at babydepot.com for $50. Not a bad price considering the precious cargo it's protecting. ;)

Here's a pic of the one I got:

edited to include DD's age and weight.

For our last trip to WDW, I bought strap things that go on the seat belts and position them properly for a child. These worked great and were very easy to carry in my pocketbook. I think I got them at Walmart or Kmart. They were made by Safety 1st. If you don't want to lug around the car seat for your child who's 4-5 yrs old, I would recommend these instead.
