I was just reading on a social media group that quite a few people take their guns to Disney. They were saying the policy is that you have to leave it locked up at the front desk of the resort or checked with security at the parks or left in their car. Any experiences as to this policy being strictly enforced? The group had many saying they're not following the policy & are carrying their guns around the resort. TIA!

I would hope it is being enforced. I'd like to see the people who do not follow the rules banned from Disney for life. Responsible gun owners would not leave their guns in their vehicles, either. Do these people have kids with them? Do they bring a gun safe with them to lock the gun up at night?

Florida state law says gun owners can carry firearms anywhere they are permitted by the law, as long as it's with their legal permit and safety accoutrements. Of course there are exceptions like courthouses... but uh.... that's the 2nd Amendment for you.

The plainsclothes security have guns too, you know... there are probably more guns in the small radius of WDW than your own neighborhood...

Not sure what the issue is? :P

Yeah and before the metal detectors people carried into the parks at both WDW and DLR the place didn't explode then.

In Both CA (although permits are much more rare) and FL no guns signs have no force of law so you can carry on and in the extremely unlikely event that someone actually notices (concealed means concealed) you are just asked to leave and you comply.

Yes if you got passed security and into the parks I would expect a lifetime ban, however I'm not so sure that would be the case at the resorts since they are pretty open and it's not too different than any other public place..I would expect them to offer up storage or leave option.

Actually most do yes, tethered or bolted down gun safes for the car are common amongst those who carry (for the rare case you have to leave it in the car) mine can be removed from the car and used elsewhere...When you fly the container you are required to use is usually a safe or at least a very sturdy locking case.

*edit
Actually I'll add that at DLH the guests in the room across from me left out some obvious firearms or cases...not sure ...anyway security came up and offered them storage. (I know not the same as actually carrying but again how in the heck would they find out?)

It is strictly enforced if it comes to the attention of security. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-woman-arrrested-gun-disney-20161026-story.html

And with good reason. Disney isn't normal conditions, and the unexpected can too easily happen. http://articles.orlandosentinel.com...1_disney-ride-animal-kingdom-disney-employees
I'll add that the first story was with an expired permit, so her carrying was illegal anywhere in FL.

The 2nd one i think had no permit but I don't recall

But yes *If caught it's enforced

My understanding from all reporting - that is the policy. No weapons can be carried around on property. EDITED - January 2016 article that states Disney confirmed, says that Disney will no longer check or store for guests. Have not seen anything either way on Disney site.

Last year at least two people were arrested trying to bring guns into Disney World theme parks.
They were charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
Was stated he was banned from Disney properties, not sure on hers but likely.

And until ALL guests walk through those metal detectors, there very likely are guests in the parks with guns. :worried:

In regards to the folks you say are walking around with guns; they risk being arrested, being asked to leave resort and receiving a no trespass from Disney which means they can't come back again ever unless Disney agrees to lift it. Probably not a good chance of that given the charges. Is that really worth carrying your gun around? I don't think so.

The lack of respect here shown for the owner of the property is shocking. Would you like someone carrying a gun onto your property without permission?

It's private property, your second amendment rights do not apply. That a foreign citizen knows your own constitution better than some in this thread is hilarious, but not at all shocking.

In fact, given the stand your ground laws in Florida, it's possible a guest brings a gun on property and is shot dead by an employee of disney and not held criminally responsible. They'd be sued into the ground for sure, but that's an actual possible outcome.

Learn your own laws, this is an embarrassment to America. Disney is not an agent of the state and therefore on their property they are not required to uphold various rights in the constitution, freedom of speech is another one.

What a sad/tragic/pathetic joke. This is sickening. Absolutely sickening. Before you get on your high horse about stopping the next mass shooting, they don't happen in the country I'm from at even 1% the rate they happen in yours. I don't want to hear it.

Just know it's not allowed at Disney. Either don't bring it or don't go. No one wants you there carrying a gun.

Lol your statement just shows that you clearly the one who doesn't understand our laws...not that it's supriseing ..however it's entertaining that you claim you do.

your second amendment rights don't apply on private property. Please tell me how I'm wrong. I don't mind being wrong and learning new things at all, so go ahead. I won't bite.

In Florida and California signs have no force of law (so Disney doesn't bother I don't think), however like you stated private property can have it's own rules so you legally may carry a firearm into any private property until you are asked to leave or store it ..you may be trespassed if you refuse to leave.

That is the law with a valid permit anyway.

Also for CA I'll add that hotel rooms are your temporary residence and the state has ruled your rights cannot be limited there, the case was specifically about firearms.

I'm not sure who you are directing this toward? No one who has responded to this thread has advocated circumventing WDW rules and bringing guns on property. The OP simply stated this was being discussed on another social media forum and wanted clarification on how WDW's policies were being enforced.

Yes but still available at the resorts afaik

Not sure why they got rid of the check in outside the parks...i guess they would rather have locals leave them in the car and risk theft.

I have no idea. I don't own a gun, so don't really keep myself up to date on gun storage! I just remembered they really tightened things up two years ago when they first introduced the metal detectors and that was one of the changes they made.
