Is the ban on liquids for carry-on's still in effect?

Unless you work for the airline it's still in place.... Airline employees could NOT be bothered to go to baggage claim like the folks who pay their salaries....

Just got back today on SWA airline. While I was in line I read two posted notices which mentioned airline employees (SWA) having to follow the same restrictions.

The ban on liquids is not temporary. There are no plans to discontinue it. It has no expiration date. Passengers should plan on it being in effect on their next flight.

That dead horse you have been beating for the past few weeks still ain't moved.
I watched flight crews go through the same security I went through both at BDL and MCO. Granted that is only two airports, but, they are doing it.

Yes. Liquids and gels are banned by the TSA, with a few exceptions.

From the TSA FAQ, "Will there be any exceptions to the banned liquids?"
The following items are permitted to be carried aboard the aircraft:

Exceptions: Baby formula and breast milk if a baby or small child is traveling; prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket; up to 8 oz. of liquid or gel low blood sugar treatment and up to 4 oz. of non-prescription liquid medications.

But CarolA is right. I watched the FAs on my flight carry on their bottled water, no problem.

I saw one carry-on her Starbucks today.

The ban is permanent.

No, it isn't necessarily permanent .

TSA's website says (about the liquids ban):

These measures will be constantly evaluated and updated as circumstances warrant.

Folks,
Let's be realistic here. We trust the flight crew to get us to our destination safely. Yet, we have a problem with them bringing on bottled water and what have you. CarolA has a lot of knowledge about this, however, she has cited only one time when a nut case FA started something.
It does seem unfair, but, geez, think about it.

I flew just last week and found the flight attendents very understanding and helpful to those with immediate needs. I saw them supply water to a mother wanting to mix formula and another woman that needed water to swallow during take off due to ear problems.

From my recent experience, it was handled very well. :thumbsup2

It's my horse and I will beat it if I want. I am amaized that there is an airport making the airline employees abide by the rules, BUT are you sure they didn't just apply the rules to gate agents. FAs and Pilots have been exempted by the TSA.

And then there is the whole issue of beverages in the gate area. That overpriced bottle of water they sell in the gift shop is ONLY safe if consumed in the gate area. If you take it on board the plane it aquires DANGEROUS skills... :rotfl2:

This "ban" is not protecting you from anything. Between the fact that the TSA is allowing "exempted" folks to violate the ban and thier apparent failure to verify that the items in the GATE area are safe.... All they are doing is causing you to be inconvienced so they can CLAIM they are responding to a NEW threat that is actually over a decade old.

I write the TSA on a regular basis asking for an explanation of WHY if those items in the gate area are NOT safe they are allowed to be there. Think about it LOGICALLY, if those items are safe then you should be allowed to bring them on, if they are NOT safe then you are in danger. (A terrorist might be just as happy to blow up the gate area don't you think?) To me that's the biggest joke... (not to mention that a terrorist could just afix liquid bomb pouches to his body, how would the TSA know?)

The problem is that we treat the SYMPTOMS not the disease. Your liquid is NOT the problem EXPLOSIVES are and NOTHING about this ban prevents an explosive from being smuggled on board.

I am very much afraid that what is is going to take to get the TSA and airlines to do what has to be done is another horrible accident.... There is better technology out there, the TSA has delayed deployement yet again awaiting PERFECTION which rarely exists.... The airlines should be REQUIRED to give the TSA the passenger manifest in advance NOT after the airplane takes off... Yes, that last one would probably inconvince me as I often change planes at the last minute and that would probably not be allowed, but I don't really think that the fact that I would be inconvienced should be an issue IF it really made a difference. Now we just have harrassment without a real difference.

The "horse" comment was not mine. Please re-read the posts. My comment was about what I read today before my flight. Perhaps you can write a letter complaining to the different airlines, TSA or the agency who has oversight over this matter mentioning your observations. Otherwise, there's little us "travelers" can do about it.

Sorry for the confusion. I was responding to all the posts made.

I STONGLY disagree that there is little "us travelers" can do. You too can go to to www.TSA.gov and send them an email. Goverment is suppose to be accountable to it's citizens. If you approve, send them an email. If you don't send them an email. Be involved and hold them accountable for your tax dollars....

(I have also written my elected officals complaining that for the amount of MY tax dollars spent I see no real improvment in security over the past five years.....)

I encourage anyone who has a similar concern to follow Carol's lead - this is constructive action, as opposed to trying to change the system one TSA agent at a time (I've stood behind many travellers trying to make a point by filling their carryon with banned items, and apparently I am not alone, according to posters on flyertalk.com - this just serves to delay your fellow travellers and annoy the TSA agent)
