I just heard and came straight here.. knew I would find people feeling the same way. We have lost so many icons this year but this one is the hardest for me personally just because being such a huge SW fan my whole life... I hope her family finds peace knowing how much she touched people's lives.

It didn't sound like there was much chance from the first news leaking out.

And they are likely to keep it quiet...i would think.

It was probably caused by years of substance abuse or could be the result of prescriptions now - "legal" drug addiction. I'm speculating but I can't see a lot of want to bring attention to the why

They are now reporting cardiac arrest. as far as substance abuse, who knows.

I don't drink, don't take drugs and never smoked. Guess what I had...cardiac arrest.

It is caused by an electrical disruption to the heart.

I hear ya...

But just to clarify: she was open about all her past and that was part of her mantra. In a way, it became a social activism.

On another, more worldly, note: variety has scoured their contacts around Hollywood and learned that fisher's part in 8 is complete...but she was also planned to be in 9...so there's that to think about in fandom
As time goes on.

It's lovely that George Lucas described Carrie's portrayal of Princess Leia as "feisty, wise and full of hope." I think that sums it up perfectly.

It does...but the force awakens was anything but a standalone movie...so there's gonna be a lot of Star Wars angst associated with this for the next few years

I am heartbroken. I never realized I could feel this way about someone I've never met. I loved her. She was raw, she was real, she was funny, she was honest, she was so talented. She was the coolest princess the galaxy has ever seen, and a huge advocate for mental illness awareness and addiction intervention.

Her heart also could've been weakened by the episodes of gaining and rapidly losing weight. Or it could've been genetic. I don't care. She was fabulous. She is gone. And the galaxy will never be the same.

I have to say that the Star Wars characters today felt like "friends" to the Gen Xers...and today we lost a friend. I'm truly sad.

I feel a little lost youth. It was a bit comforting to know that my childhood heroes were "out there"...in a weird way it provided comfort for the loss of youth, friends, and relatives in our day to day lives.

And now...at the worst time because we wanted those heroes to live again in the movies and fulfill those dreams we thought up on our own with the toys and the VHS tapes. And we're not gonna see how it "ends". I kinda wish they hadn't started the next 3 movies now...to be honest.

I kinda wish Return of the Jedi Leia was it...I coulda been a kid forever.

Totally agree...I would have rather all three of them were killed off last year - the characters - than what we get now...which is an incomplete story. There's no way around it.


An honestly...did you not expect her character to be the one that DID survive? That seems to be telegraphed the way it sets up...

Just an awful, sucky day.
