Carrie Fisher suffers major heart attack and has passed

There was a doctor and two nurses on board that worked on her but it looks like they had a really hard time with the cpr.

There's a report today that she's stable but on a ventilator.

That could mean recovery...or it could mean a "persistent vegetative state"...

It is quite possible that they know already and are just biding time. So it would be unfortunate if that were the case. I hope the details are being falsely reported

That's true about the doctor and nurses. The question is about time. When someone goes into cardiac arrest usually they go into it without knowing. Unlike a heart attack the majority of time there isn't any signs, You just lose consciousness. It is easy to not know it happened unless someone sees it happen and knows the signs. The unknown here is when they started CPR.

If she is stable and on a ventilator they could have brought her body temperature down to protect the brain. This could take awhile before they bring it back up to normal. In my case it was several days. Right now it is touch and go.

Then is there a worse place to go into arrest than on a plane?

Not only lack of first response...but 3/4 of the people are slumped over asleep anyway and nobody thinks anything of it.

If it was cardiac arrest I hope they say so to make us aware of the danger. Survival is very low. Hope for survival is quick action

It didn't sound like there was much chance from the first news leaking out.

And they are likely to keep it quiet...i would think.

It was probably caused by years of substance abuse or could be the result of prescriptions now - "legal" drug addiction. I'm speculating but I can't see a lot of want to bring attention to the why

I'd prefer if we didn't speculate at this time and just offer or thoughts and condolences since the news is so fresh.

Celebrities die all the time and it's sad...but this is sad for all of us.

THAT is Star Wars. It feels personal.

I understand but it's best if we don't speculate about her death right now. If the family wishes to reveal more details they will.

It obviously sucks when anyone dies but when it is someone who was so vibrant and such a force (pun partially intended) like Carrie it is really hard to take and just a reminder that tomorrow is not guaranteed

2016 can just go and suck it

1000%

So many loved and inspirational individuals have left of this year.

As a member of the HP community that mourned Rickman's death earlier this year, my heart breaks for the SW community.

Carrie Fisher was an amazing woman. She was talented, funny, smart, creative, empathetic, and beautiful. She was a passionate, outspoken advocate for mental health. She will be missed.

And I think this was the greatest thing about her...not as a pez dispenser or a Christmas ornament...she helped to break a lot of stigma that needed to be be broken.
