WE just found out our house has carpet beetles.....we keep finding them int he downstairs shower....that is never used. Everything in our house is currently removed besides big furniture. We paid 200 to have the pest guy spray them....we are still finding a few. WE also have been vaccuming 2-3 times a day....
Our house is a new house only 3 years old and besides furniture there is nothing on teh ground. We are clean people and are disgusted by these nasty creatures.
anyone ever had them? What do you do to get rid of them??

Yep.

Took about 4 years for the whole thing to calm down. They are tiny little buggers, but if you keep up with vacuuming, eventually you'll defeat them.

I wouldn't bother spraying. Doesn't help much and just puts more poisons in your home.

GAH!!! I hate those things. Seriously, I'd never even heard of them before I moved into my new condo, and then that spring we had an infestation in our upstairs bedroom. We got rid of them (no spraying, just cleaning) for the most part, but we still find them occasionally (usually just one by itself, but it must have come from some settlement somewhere) around the kitchen area. They are on my very short list of "creatures I kill with impunity" (the other members being mosquitoes, earwigs, silverfish and black flies). Just a note, if you vacuum them, you must imeediately empty the vacuum into your outside garbage cans because sweeping does not kill them (we learned that the hard way).

Thanks for the replies!! They are nast little creatures!! Hoefully they will be gone soon!!

I showed some little bugs to our Orkin guy the other day. He said they were carpet beetles. He suggested sprinkling the carpet with flea powder, waiting a few hours, then vacuuming. I haven't had a chance to try that yet, but hopefully that will kill the little buggers! We have Orkin spray outside our house every two months, and that keeps most bugs from coming in. Unfortunately, the carpet beetles come in anyway!

Yup, on the end stages of battling them right now. The pest control guy said they probably came in through a bag of dog food.

Sprays don't usually work. Just keep vacuuming and vacuuming.

Be careful, they are worse than moths on any natural fiber. They will chew holes through wool and natural cotton so fast it can make your head spin. I didn't realize it till I found a good cashmere sweater that was in a bottom drawer with the sleeve just ragged and little holes all over it.

I kept my good wool stuff in plastic till we got them under control.

If you have pets, they thrive on pet hair. So be especially careful in keeping pet hair vacuumed up. A dust bunny with pet hair in it can cause a feeding and breeding frenzy.

Get some food-grade diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it around the floorboards and cracks like that. It is a dessicant--it's full of sharp particles that piece the beetles and their larvae and they basically dehydrate. No chemicals or pesticides and they cannot develop a resistance to it. Good luck!
