I hear that the Carousel of Progress is only open once in a while. Is that true? If so, why is this? Any chance it will be open in Sept?

it is open while the new "Stitch" ride is being completed. I hope it is still open in September....last I heard it will be! I think it is so sad that they don't keep it open all year round as it is a "true Walt" ride........princess:

Carousel of Progress was one of the "low thrill" things that had a high maintenance cost. And with Space Mountain, Buzz and (at the time) Alien Encounter right in the neighborhood, COP suffered from low crowds. It was, as they say, one of the most popular rides nobody went on. Everyone wanted it open, but virtually no one rode. So, it went to seasonal operation to help rein in maintenance costs and in the hopes that during the intervals it did open, it would help draw attendance to the attraction.

As for current schedule ... it's been open daily while Alien Encounter is being turned into the Stitch attraction, and it will likley remain open daily for a while right after Stitch opens, to help handle the expected Tomorrowland crowds at that point. Once the novelty of the new attraction begins to wear off, whether COP stays open or not will depend on visitor levels.

We been going to wdw for years and at first never been on
COP. We always thought it was a boring ride, not worth wasting time on. Then a few trips ago, we were so hot and ran in COP. I'm soo glad we did. It was so interesting. We really enjoyed it. Even my dd who didn't want to go at first liked it. Its sad to hear that its not a ride that will continue to stay open all the time.

CoP has been open everytime I have been to WDW, & I have gone on it everytime. My DD & I love it.

But the people we usually bring on the ride look at us like "why did you waste our time with this ride"?

We love COP too, and I'm happy to hear it's still open (at least part time). I know there's been talk of closing it for years, but to me it's one of those neat things that says Disney is different from everywhere esle.

COP is an oldie, but a goodie! It is one of my favorites! I believe that they use to post a sign outside the attraction indicating the hours of operation. Maybe they still do this.

I am so glad to hear it will be open while I am at WDW in August. I love to go in in the middle of a hectic day. It is a fun way to relax in the coolness. This will be my Dsis first visit to WDW and she is not into thrill rides. She will love this one I am sure.

If anyone can tell me how to get the trip counter on my posts I would appreciate it. I have searched the site several times and can't figure out how to do it.

I leave in 18 days for AKL with Dsis.

Our family loved COP on our last trip!!!
I think the girls (4 and 6 at the time) found it intriguing and NOT scary...important to them after the bugs life fiasco (all my fault and a looong story).

As we prepared to leave MK and WDW totally we had time for one last ride and they picked COP. Every now and then my now 7 year old will break out singing....There's a great big beautiful tomorrow....

We love COP, it's pretty long, not too boring and it's in the AC. There is never a line either which is wonderful! DFiance and I can be seen on it atleast once every time we go to MK singing along "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shinning at the end of every day".

In the past 10 times I've been to Disney, COP has only been closed once, and that was in 96.

If my memory serves me correctly, I always go in early December and it has been open everytime that I have been...THERE'S A GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW!!!...I love that attraction. :p

It has been closed almost every trip we've taken in Sept. and Oct. I am REALLY hoping it is open during our upcoming trip.

:D

I'm glad to hear CoP has been open daily. I'll be at MK for a day in a couple of weeks and I haven't been on CoP since 1999. It was closed during my visit in 2002 and it bummed me out that I might not have another chance to ride it again before it closes for good. Hopefully, I'll get a chance in a couple of weeks.

I was about to ask that. But since Stich is opening in like October, maybe it will stay open through the end of the year.
