Carousel inn Tripadvisor 3 1/2 stars. Yelp 2 1/2

What kind of "free hot food" are you refering to. When I called and asked they stated what they had and said there was no difference to what people get for breakfast. They said no difference between the concierge room and standard room when it comes to breakfast???

Well I am pretty sure I know what they meant. When you go into the breakfast room you will have your free items like fruit, pastry, bread, etc. available to standard room guests. But there is an area in the breakfast room where they serve warm items like breakfast wraps and burritos. They may have other things but I have only ever seen those, as I just never used the hot free breakfasts that often. If people in standard rooms want a warm burrito or wrap, they have to pay for it. People in the concierge rooms find hotel coupons waiting in their room upon check in for "FREE HOT BREAKFASTS". These coupons you take to the breakfast room in the morning and hand over to the hotel staff who is serving up the hot breakfast and they will give you a hot breakfast for free. So there is no difference between a hot breakfast for concierge and standard rooms. Standard rooms guests just have to pay for it. But still it is a nice added perk to save money. We found its great to just grab a wrap and run when we were going on a day excursion or tour and had to wait outside for the bus and didnt have time to really eat breakfast. We could take it with us.

This is my favorite strategy. I like to take a danish or a donut or something into the park so I have one less mid morning snack to buy.

Carousel does put signs in their breakfasts room that asks that you do not take any food from the room. Probably to avoid people loading up on breakfast and wiping out their stock. So if you take food you will have to answer to conscience

Has anyone stayed in the Kid Suites? Are those in the "tower" building along with the other suites? And if so, do they also open to the outside, or is there a corridor. The pictures of the Kid Suites look adorable, but of course I don't trust that much.

Would love a comparison of the Carousel Kid Suites with the HoJo Kid Suites if anyone has seen both.

Yep! I know the Carousel is really picky about you having to eat in the breakfast room only and it is important for guests to know that the Carousel has this rule. I give the Carousel a 4 out of 5 star, this has to be one of my drawbacks. Cause I also stay next door at the Tropicana and we are allowed to bring our breakfasts back to our rooms there which is nice. But I do admit I see your point as I have to agree with that. There are times I have been to the breakfast room at the Tropicana and they had been very picked over. But the Carousel I have to admit, they have also been very good about us redeeming our vouchers and leaving as we said we were in a hurry and had to go catch the bus which was off property. We looked ready for the day, we had our bags with us, we didnt have an arm full of pasty or anything, and so they were understanding. But we always try and be respectful to the rule and sit and eat breakfast in the breakfast room when we can.

Good to know about the breakfast rule. With two little kids our breakfast strategy is sometimes to have one parent grab food and bring it back to the room, or to grab something to eat on the way to the park. Sitting with them in the breakfast room waiting for them to eat is a big waste of time for us. (I don't mean grabbing a day's worth of food, btw, just a reasonable portion for each person to have one meal.)

Most places I've stayed this strategy would not be an issue. Knowing we are limited in where we can eat the breakfast kind of makes me not even count it as a benefit.

We stayed there in april, two doors down from the breakfast room. The first morning we had breakfast in the little room with everyone else. After that we picked out our breakfast items and went back to our room to eat. No one said a word to us about any requirements or rules about where to eat. It is my breakfast, I'll eat it where I want. Didn't have to worry about oversleeping, at 07:00hrs every morning all you could hear was people going past the door to go eat. Noisy place...:cool1:

Well they have little placard signs on the tables asking you to not take food and have only 1 or 2 people working the room either bussing tables or refilling food.

It isn't hard to take food from there just
"let your conscience be your guide"
or
"gotta keep...1 jump ahead of the law-man"

I was there late August last year and my brother and I took turns getting breakfast and returning to the room while the other got ready lol. Was the rule in place then? This is the first I ever heard of this "no food back to rooms" rule. If it was in place no one said a word and I never saw, or never noticed or even looked for, any signs saying we couldn't. If tables have placards I would never have seen them as people were eating at the tables lol. Oh well, I will continue to take breakfast back to the room with a chair as long as there is standing room only in the breakfast area.

My conscience is clear lol.

LT :)

Darn those conflicting Disney messages. Do I believe the boy with the monkey or the boy with the cricket? :confused3

I agree with Little Toni, I never saw a placard or sign of any size. No one said a word about not leaving the breakfast room with food. For what it is worth, cold breakfast(of course you can fix your own toasted bagel, if you want something hot) is not something to get worked up over. We were there seven days, we used the breakfast facility three times(the first three days), the other days we went to IHOP or to the park for breakfast. We were not impressed, the wife wanted "Inexpensive" to save a couple dollars and that was what we recieved. It is an old motel folks, do not not expect a whole lot...:cool1:

I think I read in another Thread a couple of months ago, that if you are staying in concierge, they will give you coupons for an egg sandwich or kind of hot burrito from Quinzos. They sell it for around 3 dollars ir you are in standard room. But again, maybe they changed that allready, like Park Vue Inn that are going to change the food options tomorrow, July 1 .:confused3

Just checked out of the Carousel Inn yesterday. The Quiznos is gone. There's a sign announcing a new restaurant, "Pizza Press." The front desk staff told me that Pizza Press should be opening in the next few days. He also said that Quiznos has been gone for a few months (but not sure how accurate his dates are).

Just checked out of the Carousel Inn yesterday. I didn't see any area in the breakfast room with breakfast wraps and burritos. I asked at the front desk and was told that there is no difference in breakfast for the concierge rooms vs. other rooms. Main difference for concierge apparently is the ability to self-park, bigger rooms, and some additional room amenities (robes etc.)

ETA: There was a sign saying to please eat breakfast in the breakfast room, but we did wrap up a few things in a napkin and brought them back to the room. Not a big deal. Maybe it would have been worse if we were bringing back plates/utensils?

Almost all people at Yelp didnt like it, to noisy, small rooms. On Trip advisor, almost everyone liked it. Who should I belive?:confused3
I have a reservation for July.....I also have a reservation for Candy Cane, but is $150 dollars more. Please give me some input... Thanks

I was super-nervous too after reading such mixed reviews for the Carousel Inn, but the Micechat rate with included valet parking made it a shoo-in for our visit, especially since we only decided to go to DLR one month in advance, so several hotels were sold out or had sky-high rates for the 4th of July weekend.

So I took the advice of chrissiecutie from the Castle Inn thread and called the Carousel Inn directly. I told the hotel staff that I was a little nervous about my stay and asked if all the rooms had been renovated. (The answer was most, but not all.) I asked if she could put in my reservation notes that I would like a renovated, quiet room, preferably on the top floor but not underneath the rooftop pool and not too close to the breakfast room either. She was very nice about everything, and we were happy with the rooms we were given at check-in.

The rooms were just fine. Not super luxurious, but I wasn't expecting that. I was just hoping for clean and comfortable. I thought the beds were fine. DH is pickier about beds and thinks he prefers HoJo, but we stayed there three years ago, so I don't know if he really remembers. I was most worried by the Carousel Inn reviews that said the rooms look nothing like the pictures on the hotel website. I didn't find that to be true. Of course the website pictures look better (better lighting, angles, etc.), but the bedding etc. was the same. And I liked the sliding doors that separated the sink area from the bed area.

Rooftop pool was fine. It's small and ranges in depth from 4 ft to 6.5 ft. Was fine for my kids. Lots of towels available near the pool.

I could hear people walking on the outdoor walkway, but I wasn't disturbed. Again, DH is a different story--supersensitive hearing.

I liked how the Micechat rate includes valet parking. Also, when I checked out (check-out time is 11 a.m. and there are penalties for late check-out), I was told I could leave the car in the parking lot. No fees if I took the car out by 2 pm, but I would be charged the regular valet parking fee ($9 + fees/tax) if the car remained in the lot after 2.

Overall, I was very happy with our Carousel Inn stay. Hope you have a great stay too!

Sounds lovely. I didn't take photos (and don't know how to post photos anyways). I did find a picture of the Carousel Inn rooms in a Disboards thread from the DiS Divas meet and that picture was pretty accurate.

I guess things have changed then in the last few years cause I have always had the breakfast vouchers in my room. I guess they stopped doing that then. It's Been two years now since I stayed in a concierge. So it's possible.

Oh no! That's one of our favorite cheap lunches. We usually stay at HoJo's, and will stop by Quizno's in the AM for a large sandwich to share, and stuff it into our backpack for later consumption in the park. What a loss!

Thank you for clearing this up. Would have been a lot easier if the lady on the phone would have told me (and others calling) that they are no longer open and offering this service. Thanks!
