Normally we stay at Coronado Springs but they are all booked up for the first week of December. So now we're looking at Caribbean Beach, which we've never stayed at before so any thoughts would be welcomed!

We love CBR. It is our favorite Mod, though we have not stayed at CSR yet. The laid back atmosphere is such a nice retreat from the craziness of the parks. We feel CBR gives us 2 vacations in 1. When we have a resort day, it really recharges us for the parks again.

The main pool has 2 great slides. We have a hard time getting our DS10 out of the pool.

We like the nightly campfire/marshmallow roasting and movies by the pool.

Since you are used to CSR, you get the gist of what it's like to stay at a resort that is larger. IMHO, the size of CBR gets blown way out of proportion. I have heard people state they walked miles to get from their room to OPR. The farthest room is an under 10 minute walk. We love how it is laid out. Even when it's at capacity it doesn't feel like it.

Be aware the CBR still has double beds. Rumor has it they will get queens in 2013.

Also, have you checked CBR availability for that week? Word is it is limited possibly because blocks of rooms are reserved for Pop Warner. But that's not confirmed.

Thanks for the reply. I am a little nervous about how big it is based on the reviews others have written- glad to hear you think they're exaggerated! The room that was quoted to us was the pirate room. Do you know if that is only in Trinidad South or whether there are pirate rooms in other sections? Also, do each of the sections have their own busses to the parks?

When trying to book Coronado, it came up unavailable but offered CBR instead, so they're not booked up yet. Hopefully it will stay that way until tonight when DH and I finally book it!

Totally agree with dansdad, its like getting 2 vacations in 1. :thumbsup2
IMO people def take the size of the resort way out of proportion. The futherest is Trinadad South where the pirate themed rooms are located, we stayed in them last May and it was a 8-10 minute walk if that, depends on your walking pace. The buses make the loop around the resort to each Island and this takes about 10-15 minutes, its not bad. Overall we love this resort, have stayed here 4x before and will def go back! :cool1:

Though we have not stayed at CSR, good friends of ours have stayed at both and have said that the 2 resorts are very similar in size.

I answered your other questions in the CBR FAQ thread and posted a map. There is a bus stop for every village.

IMHO, the size of CBR is blown way out of proportion in online reviews. If you are comfortable with the size of CSR, CBR will be fine.

If you're concerned about the location of the Pirate Rooms, why not book a standard room? Jamaica 45 and Aruba 51 are the closest non-preferred rooms at CBR.

CBR the resort that is loved by many hated by others. :teeth:

We have stayed at CBR and CSR, we love both resorts for different reasons. Whether you like CBR depends on vacation style and expectations. I will try to give you accurate account of what you will find there.

The rooms IMO are nothing special. They are a good size and the two sinks is nice, but the Nemo decor doesn't do much for me and the double beds are obviously not as nice as the beds at CSR. Having said that I have no complaints about the rooms, we had great mouse keeping and nothing about the rooms we keep me from staying there again. Just warning for those who base their opinion on of a resort on having a "fancy" room this isn't he place.

What you pay for at CBR is outside of the room!! The grounds are amazing! Arguably the most beautiful relaxing grounds at WDW. It is the largest resort, but that is part of what is great about it. We were there at Christmas time when pretty much all 2500 rooms were full and felt like the place was half empty! Always a quiet place to relax, we were never bothered by other people at all. It was like our building was empty. The only time you noticed the crowds was if you went to the food court at meal time. We ate at off times and it was great.

The pool is great. Not quite as nice as CSR, but no complaints about he pool area.

We stayed in Martinique 25 and had an awesome view of the Epcot fireworks from the beach in front of our room every night. This is one of my favorite things at CBR. I know you can see the really high ones from CSR, but about 3/4 of the show is visible from the right places at CBR.

It is slightly bigger than CSR, but if you are ok with CSR you will be fine. Having said that we loved our preferred room at CBR. I wouldnt get a preferred room at CSR because the pool, food court, and fitness club are in 3 opposite corners and I use all 3 so there is no benefit. At CBR the food court, store, main pool, and outdoor lounge are all in the same area and the preferred rooms guarantee you to be close. They are well worth the money at CBR IMO.

We loved the atmosphere, the CM's were great, we had a great time. Why did we choose CSR the last 2 times? Basically the final decision always came down to the extra amenities/value at CSR. The queen beds, fitness center, spa, 3 lounges including a night club style lounge, largest pool slide at WDW, and largest hot tub at WDW. The fitness center and lounge probably aren't that important to most on a Disney vacation, but we use both and we go for 14 nights not just a few. So those things swayed us to CSR, but if it was full I would stay at CBR in a heartbeat.

We have two young sons, so the pirate rooms at CBR were super for us! Mousekeeping did a wonderful job of making it fun to "come home" to the room everyday. Pool is fabulous....

We enjoyed it very much!

Sitting at CBR right now. Our son (eleven) loves it. I concur about the pool. It is great. The size of the resort is of little consequence. CBR is great, you will love it!!!!

I guess I will be the dissenter here, but we have stayed at many Disney resorts including all the mods except CSR, and Caribbean Beach is the one place that my family has said we will not stay at again.

The thing that I didn't like most about it is that the Custom House is not accessible from most places. We use the magical express and do not have a car. A resort shuttle had to take us back and forth from our room whenever we arrived and when we left we had to call Bell Services and arrange a pick up time for us. This meant that we lost probably an hour from our last day waiting to be picked up in our room and then waiting again at the Custom House for the Magical Express.

We actually had a convienently located room since my request was honored, but I do think it is a good bit of walking. We didn't have any issues with the bus services. If you are used to staying at a moderate, you won't either since they do have multiple stops to make.

We other complaint was the food. We didn't enjoy our meals at Old Port Royale. The tables are jam packed in there together. We also had a disasterous meal at Shutters.

And we just didn't see many CMs. This may be due to the largeness of the place, but I missed the Disney customer service we've gotten used to getting.

An a positive note, the pool was really great. Other than the Poly's, the second best pool on property that we've stayed at.

We absolutely love CBR. The week you are going is the same time we usually went. It's true that it is during pop warner comp time but honestly, we never had a problem. Generally, CBR is used for the over flow from the All Stars.
The rooms - are nothing special although the new theme rooms are said to be nicer. We spend very little time in the room so we really just need a place to sleep. Trinidad South is a good walk to the food court/main pool but it's managable. We stayed in Trinidad North several times and loved the location - preferred and much smaller/quieter than Martinque. We visit we ended up in Jamica or Aruba (something over the Cay and I wasn't thrilled but it was managable.
The food court - we didn't have many issues since we would eat breakfast early to be at the park for EMHs. Usually would only be there for a late dinner - good selection and again for us off hours meant no crowds.
The buses - we never had an issue, except for my own misunderstanding one morning. A bus always came by within 10 minutes.
The extras - We haven't been since the new pool. Our last stay was at Shades of Green since my parents were there. I will say I LOVE being able to watch the Epcot fireworks from the pool area. We didn't have to battle the park to see them. We could get an ice cream, relax, go for a swim...
We would stay there again in a heartbeat. We will be staying at Shades again in March when we go for UCA Nationals but again, that is because my parents will be there, they're willing to pay and I get Deluxe Disney resort for half the price of CBR.
Best of luck as you decide.

I, too, feel that the size of CBR is exaggerated frequently. It isn't a small resort by any means, but it isn't so big that it is unmanageable. We loved our stay at CBR in 2010. The resort was really pretty and we really enjoyed the pool. My kids loved the pirate ship play area too. I enjoyed the walk from our room (Jamaica building 45- per request) to OPR. Our bus stop also wasn't far away. We were almost always the first bus stop to be dropped off, but if we weren't, we'd get off at the stop at OPR and walk from there to our room in Jamaica instead of riding the bus all the way around the resort. I loved having a double sink at CBR. We're staying at CSR in April, and that is the one thing that bothers me.

We stayed at CBR in June. It was our second stay at CBR! We enjoyed both times we were there. lovely resort:goodvibes I am sure staying there in Dec. will be awesome:thumbsup2 We never had transportation issues & customer service was great:love: We have always stayed in the Jamaica buildings.

Our first stay at CBR was :cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:
Perfect in every way! We really loved the resort, especially the pools, Banana Cabana (the outdoor bar) and oh, those hammocks on the beaches, and how friendly all the CMs were! The one thing we really didn't love though was the foodcourt. Personally I think it falls short compared to the other moderate resorts.
We were spoiled though, we were upgraded to a preferred room since all the cheerleaders were in several of the islands. We had a wonderful corner room view of the lake on the second floor. I would have repeated that trip in a heartbeat!

We decided to stay again two weeks ago for a short stay before my family was reuinted to camp at Fort Wilderness.
My girls wanted to try a Pirate Room, which I obliged to, knowing their location in Trinidad South. I'm glad we had our first stay first, because if we had this one first, we would have probably not stayed at CBR again. It was such a night and day experience. I'm sorry, but I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in January and in the peak heat of the day, the walk to OPR is LONG and HOT when tired. It is not exaggerated in my opinion. Our room was less than stellar, it was not well maintained and had a really funky smell to it. Yes, the theme was awesome. My girls were fine with the room, but if it were up to me, I would have changed rooms, paid for the upgrade if I had to, to get a regular room closer to OPR. There were other factors that made our stay less than optimal, but those were uncontrollable, such as the weather and the Brazilian tour groups.

I would stay at CBR again, there are so many wonderful things about the resort, the Pirate Rooms/location/condition just didn't do it for me.
But...that's any resort...sometimes it's a hit and sometimes it's a miss.

Enjoy CBR!

CBR is was not my favorite place to stay. It was the only mod with rooms under the military discount when I booked our June trip. It was one of the resorts we thought we'd like to try someday.....but loved our stays at POR too much to try another resort. We'll I figured fate was making us try something new....so OK.

True that the resort is very pretty. Tropical and relaxing. We got the location (Jamaica) that we requested. I tried to change to a preferred room all the way up until we left.....never opened up. The walk to OPR is long. It may not be as bad as some make it out to be, but it is a bit of a walk even crossing over the island. I would have hated to be any father out than 1 building away from that bridge. My mom and I are both smokers and I did like the nice DSA's they have. Nice in the courtyards with umbrellas for shade. There were 2 within a minute of walking from our room. Much nicer than at POR or ASSP where you are baking in the sun.

Our bus service was overall good. Some days the buses were awesome, some days the wait was long. Overall, no better or worse than any other stay we've ever had. Jamaica was often the first stop so we always had seats. Trinidad South- where the pirate rooms are- I felt bad for those people. 99% families with small kids and usually last to be picked up= SRO most days. Sometimes we got off first and others we were towards the end. The stops make the trip longer, but it's really not that bad and will be similar to the other mods with multiple stops. As to the parks, CBR seems to have nearly the farthest stops at most of the parks. The other mods have stops slightly closer to the exits, but CBR is usually last or almost last. Makes leaving after walking all day just that much more not fun.

The room was fine. Clean and in good shape. I don't care too much one way or another for the theme of the rooms, but there was nothing wrong with it. Our TV had some problems. Of all channels......Disney kept freezing up. But I hated it when we had satellite TV at home too.

I also did not like that the lobby building was very disconnected from the resort. They also didn't make it clear at check in that you MUST reserve your shuttle pick up time the day BEFORE you check out. I called in the a.m. and was almost told too bad, but they said they'd "try" to squeeze us in best they could. My kids and I went to the food court to get us lunch to go while my mom waited for the shuttle and our luggage. The 11 am pick up was almost 1 hour late. The line for RAC was out the door and our bus was scheduled to be there at 12:30.....meaning we had to drag our bags on the bus with us and through the airport. But dragging 5 cases all the way to the custom house was just not an option with my mom and 2 kids.

The food court was OK. Only ate there twice and the food was fine. It's cute, not that crowded while we were there, but the variety of food offered was not that good. I thought the menus at POR or the All Stars was much better. We did not do the TS place. I also did not like that the food court closed at 11. At 10:55 they would not let us in the building at all to get drinks. I really think that when parks are open late and pools are open 24 hours........one should be able to at least get your mug filled somewhere. At least POR and the values were open until midnight, and you could often still get a refill later than that due to the building being open with the lobby inside and the bar at POR.

We only got to the pools twice in our 8 day stay. Once to the main pool, once to the quiet pool in our village. Every other time we attempted to take a break and hit the pool, a storm came. Not CBR's fault of course, but we didn't get to enjoy much of the pools due to weather. The kids liked the main pool, but it was late and the slides were not open. We never did get to try them.

I had one bad experience with a CM at the gift shop. I went to pick up a package I had sent from HS, 3 days previously. She couldn't find it. Suggested it hadn't arrived yet. Three days ago? Blamed me because I didn't have my receipt for her to match it......though had told me my room key was sufficient 5 minutes before. Argued with me for about 5 more minutes. I could see there were no more than 8 bags in their cupboard. Another CM came over, looked at my room key, opened the door and picked out my bad in 30 seconds. No apology offered.

The property manager was really great. My son's stuffed animal was lost with the bedding. He personally came to our room to help look and explained how the laundry service worked and offered to check the truck that had not yet left. He offered to replace it, but it was not a Disney item. I thought that was above and beyond. Unfortunately......all we got was a post card with a "sorry we can't find your item" from CBR when we got home.

My only other problems with our stay really had nothing to do with the resort. First, one morning there was a snake at the bottom of the stairs! I hate snakes like Indiana Jones! I know it's FL and they are plentiful, but we've been to WDW many times and I never came across one. The other was just weird. While at the DSA a complete stranger approached me and asked me for Vicodin.

Overall, I wouldn't say I hated CBR or would never stay there again....but it wouldn't be the first choice I would make next time. I wouldn't however stay there without having a preferred room.......and possibly a car. We've just enjoyed the things about POR much more.

regards

I have stayed at CBR three times and like it very much, but your dates worry me. Be sure that Pop Warner is not staying there at the same time. That would be a deal breaker for me.

I could have written this post...My family and I love CBR. I love that you never hear other guests when in your room. We love the fact that you don't have to go to the main pool if you don't want to because there are plenty of quiet pools.

But more than anything we love the laid back feeling you get while there.

I was under the impression that Pop Warner stayed at the value resorts, no?

We stayed and it is a very nice rsort. We did feel it was too big and needed to walk to the main bus stop to get picked up. We did like the quet pool . We did like the food options there too.

Here is a link to my recent review of CBR:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2904377

We have now stayed there twice, both were wonderful experiences!

I will also add that for us, the size of the resort is not a problem. Yes its large but most Disney resorts are. We have stayed at all of the mods, plus SSR and OKW so we are used to and in fact enjoy a more spread out resort.

As for the Custom House (check in area) being separate, this does not have to be an issue. Guest services at OPR can do pretty much anything you need, add days to your tickets, check your balance, print out boarding passes and probably other stuff I can't think of right now!

If you need help with luggage when you leave, you do need to call the night before. I'll add this is true for most every other Disney resort. I have found this at POR and CSR as well as Boardwalk, all of which I waited until the day we checked out and all were not able to accomodate us. So I have learned to call the night before!

When you check in, they will for sure be able to help you to your room.

All Disney resorts have their pros and cons. If the theming of CBR appeals to you, go with it!

We love CBR! We have stayed at this moderate every trip but one. The resort is beautiful and quiet. It is big but that is what we like about it. It is like we are on our own tropical island.

We prefer staying at Jamaica. It is just a short walk across the lake to the main pool and the food court. Jamaica has a quiet pool that we love and it is close to one of the bus stops.

The rooms are nice and we love the double sink. I also like the size of the room, it seems bigger to me.

The buses have always been good for us at CBR too

We are planning to go again the summer of 2013 and we will again stay at CBR.
