We just returned home from another wonderful Walt Disney World vacation (22 trips and counting!) and my sixth stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort. We checked in at about 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. We used the online check-in and this worked out fine, however, there was a line at online check-in and one CM working at it. There was NO line at regular check-in and about 8 CM's just standing around waiting for the next guest to arrive. It really wasn't a time saver at our time of arrival. We did get our room request of a first floor room but we did not get our request of a room in Aruba or Jamaica. We were assigned a room in Barbados building #14. I decided not to asked for a change since the CM told me that our parents were going to be assigned the room next door to us when they checked in on Monday. That was more important to us than a room closer to Old Port Royale. We received a folder of information, resort map, our keys to the world and the $200 gift card at the online check-in desk.
Let's talk about the good things first.... Our room was #1432 in the Barbados section. My parents, who arrived 2 days later, were assigned room #1431. It really ended up being the perfect location and we were close to the quiet pool, the laundry, the beach, playground and the parking lot (we had a rental car). We also had a corner room! Our room was was very clean, we had excellent housekeeping service during our stay and we love the colorful Nemo theme. The housekeeper arranged DD's stuffed animals in our window each day and we also received a few towel animals as well. I took a few pictures of our room and I will post them later in this thread. The food court was adequate (not excellent) and we were always able to find seating with no problem. All the CM's we experienced at the resort were very friendly and helpful.
Now the bad.....and it really isn't totally bad but.... When we arrived at our room we noticed lots and lots of teenagers hanging around outside the rooms in courtyard and walkways around building 13, 14 and 15. It was "spring training" for high school and college softball, baseball, lacrosse, dance and cheerleading teams and a few marching bands were there as well. Every section (except maybe the pirate rooms in Trinidad South) had groups of these teenagers staying there. There were tents set up in all the parking lots and lots of buses picking up and dropping off teams before and after their games. Now I having nothing against teenagers and college age kids BUT I would rather not be surrounded by them on vacation. The literally took over the pool areas either with their exercise sessions, teams meetings or just large groups of them swimming. For some reason they felt it necessary to yell out their conversations to each other and some of the content just wasn't appropriate for young children. It was really difficult to enjoy the pool as a family. They also ran up and down the stairs and walkways at late at night screaming, laughing and throwing these small round yellow-orange fruit off the trees at each other. Security was quick to put a stop to prolonged noise but it still woke us up several times a night. The groups took over the beaches too and one afternoon when I took DD to play at the kid's playground in Martinique we found the equipment being used by teenage boys, not children. Everyday the washers and dryers were occupied by the teams to wash all their uniforms. Now please understand that these groups did not ruin our trip by any means but it did make it hard to enjoy our time at the resort. One afternoon/evening we decided to visit POR (our second favorite moderate) and did not notice any of these teams staying there. I think if we go during spring break again, we will stay there or at FQ. I am sure the theming there doesn't appeal as much to the young adults as CBR. It did make me sad that we couldn't fully enjoy CBR because it really is a beautiful resort.
So any questions? I will be happy to try and answer them. I will also be posting the photos I took at the resort, mostly of the Barbados section. I am so missing being at Walt Disney World!
