Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

We just returned from the CBR. We checked in on 9/21-9/28. We were put in Trinadad South 36. We had 2 rooms. One was clean and the other wasn't. In fact we had 2 different housekeepers. One very good...one not so good. The bedspreads were dirty. The ceiling fan made a horrible sound when it was on. The shutter door to the refrigerator fell off. The shower curtain had mold on it. The remote control was missing for the T.V.
My DH called the front desk they got a manager who corrected everything very quickly. They came and installed a new fan, fixed the door to the refrigerator and brought a new refrigerator. We now had 2 in our room. They did bring new bedspreads in bags too.
The housekeeper in one room was awesome. She made animals everyday and really went out of her way. Her name was Joyce and she was wonderful to my mom who got sick while we were there.
The other housekeeper left no animals except the one duck when we checked in. She did not leave any soap or shampoo for 3 days. It was frustrating. Didn't vacuum the rug. It was frustrating.
My DM who is handicapped had a rough time. We did get a 1st floor room but not a lower bed for her. We had to call and get a step stool for her to get into the bed. It wasn't easy for her. We were so far away from OPR it was frustrating especially for my 80 year old parents. I tried to book a preferred room but was told they were sold out. I put in all the requests and only the non-smoking and first floor were honored.
The food court was crowded but if you went at off times it was ok. We chatted with people who did have free dining and they were having a hard time getting reservations. I know when we made ressies they asked first if we had a dining plan or not. I'm not sure if that made a difference.
When we go back to WDW I think I will try somewhere else if my parents go with us. If we are to go if I can't book a preferred I won't stay there again. We really felt far away from things in Trinadad South.
With all that said I miss Disney and the cast members wishing me a magical day. In fact my daughter came to me last night with all her money in her bank and said this is for our next trip. :) How sweet is that

Did you mention about your parents when checking in about the location in Trinidad South? Did you report the fan with a noise, shutter off the front of the fridge, etc. to management? If you did what did they say?

Yes I did mention it to them at check-in and also it was all listed on the requests I had made. They said that they could move us closer in 2 days but only could stay there 2 days and then would have to move again. They told me they had more options if I wanted second floor. I told them that my DM can't make the stairs because of being handicapped. They said everything else was full.
When my DH called they did act quickly and replaced the fan and fix things. The manager was very apologetic and gave us a $50 off each room for the inconvenience. They even followed up to see if evrything was done. :)

I found this on About and thought it was a nice picture CBR...a different perspective, anyhow...

isn't there an option that we can purchase when we check in that would give us full access to the bike and boat rentals, etc? Does anyone know about this? How much, how it works, etc? Thanks!

Does CBR have elevators? My mom is coming with us this year and she needs to be in a wheelchair for extended amounts of walking (so most of the time). I needed to know if I should request a first floor room.

I actually called the resort a few weeks ago and asked if they had elevators and they said yes.

Glad I asked. You would think they should know :sad2: :sad2:

We just got back from a wonderful stay at CBR - but we think all our stays at CBR are wonderful ;)

We went September 13th - 20th. We were in Martinique 2501 which is a first floor corner room. Very quiet, not too many people around until you went to OPR around 9am...watch out! Holy Cow! We've never seen the food court that busy, but, we always went earlier too.

Any questions, ask away!

What would you prefer...a room on the first floor or second floor and WHY?

Our kids are 5 and 7, so we don't have to worry about them, strollers, etc. I'd like the second floor for the view, but without a balcony, I think I could do without the steps. I'd like the first floor for the convenience, but worry about little feet above me. What are your preferences???

We never heard a SOUND from above and, only heard a few noises from next door, when we opened the adjoining door to my cousin's room. ;) 1st floor worked great for my family, 5 rooms total. :thumbsup2

Stacey,
How did you like the food court? Was it expensive? What do you think was the best value at the food court.

Thanks.....

I don't think you can say there is one dish that's a "better value" than another.

You can check out the menus and the prices by clicking on these links:

I really like the food court at Old Port Royale. It's got a better selection than the typical burgers and chicken fingers, but it has those, too. Here's an excerpt from my May 2005 trip report, in which I comment on my 2 favorite dishes at the food court:

I ordered a freshly made Asian Chicken Salad that was really tasty: udon noodles, romaine, various veggies, moist cubes of chicken, and a really good, strong-tasting Asian-style salad dressing made with sesame oil. It was served in a modified Chinese food take-out container (with a round bottom and no lid flaps) along with chopsticks.

My wife ordered an absolutely mouth-watering "hand-tossed chicken caesar salad" at the pizza and pasta place. We love making our own Caesar dressing and almost never order Caesar salad in restaurants, but it looked really good, and it tasted even better. It turns out they have a great system to make it fresh. The CM pulls a heaping plate of romaine lettuce out of a refrigerated drawer and dumps the lettuce into a refrigerated bowl that sits recessed in a modified sandwich board. She then adds measured scoops of chicken cubes, grated parmasean cheese, croutons, and dressing, and then hand-tosses it in that recessed bowl. When it's all done, she plates it on the original plate the lettuce was on, then tops it off with more parmasean cheese and a warm breadstick. I highly recommend both of the above salads.

Well, we were on the dining plan so for us it wasn't expensive ;) But, I tallied up some of our lunches or breakfasts and found that in the Grab-n-Go market the yogurt with granola which I got a lot but used as my snack was about 3.79. Our lunches ranged from cheeseburgers and fries, or chicken fingers and fries, soda and dessert and they were about 12 or 13.00 but again we used the DDP. However, we never had a bad meal there and everything was HOT when we got it. We've been there 7 times so we are used to it. Hope I helped a little.

If you have any other questions, ask away! :wave2:

It's probably been asked hundreds of times, but I can't find the answer.

How big are the refrigerators in the rooms? I'm planning my order for Garden Grocer & was curious.

Just got home and thought I would post this. Checked in on Sept 28th for 7 nights and got a free upgrade! Thanks to Tammy at the front desk got a corner room in Jamaica #4428 and water view right by a quiet pool, how awesome!
Room was very clean and we loved the Carribean colors, excellent room with no problems what’s so ever. CBR is an excellent Resort, we have stayed at POR and I have to say we like them equally well. Main pool is not very big and was a little disappointed with the jacuzzi, also very small. I wish Disney would add jacuzzi’s at all the quiet pools, wouldn’t that be great. The slide at the main pool is also very small and my daughter liked the POR pool slide much better. Great resort to just relax if that is your thing, love the hamocks by the beach. Took a few naps there and hid out from my kids. But again if I had to choose between POR and CBR I couldn’t; both are great.
Bus service- It’s a longer drive to MK and had some problems going to MGM. I used my car a few times for the first time this trip and I think I will continue to do this but MK I think you almost have to take the bus. The other parks it’s easy to get in and out of with your own vehicle and saves allot of time. Here’s another wouldn’t it be nice; how about Monorail service to each resort? I do not believe they have added to the Monorail at either WDW or DL.
Crowd report- very low crowds, it was great, mostly less then 20 Minutes for the E-ticket rides, many walk ons. It was so slow when we first got there that many rides were only running one side, like Thunder Mountain and Pirates loading only ever other boat. The longest ride we had was Epcots Soaring and Test Track of 50 minutes on Weds 4 Oct. so we skip it because we had already been on it, our second day with only 10-20 minute waits.
All in all excellent time at CBR anyone with reservations in the near future you will love it and should worry if you made the right choose between resorts. Looking forward to our trip to DL in California next and then thinking I want to try CSR in early March 07.

Last year we stayed at CSR and had the refrigerator. It was able to hold 2 gallons of milk, cheese, yogart, butter and some items on the door. There is no freezer like your usual dorm refrigerators. Hope this helps....

I thought our fridge at POFQ back in April had one of those mini-freezers - the 2 inch space that that wouldn't hold an ice block.
