Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

I called back around 430pm to inquire about the Pirate Cruise again. While they don't have all the info in the computer yet they are taking reservations. I got a spot for my nephew for April so hoping this one lasts at CBR.

We have reserved a preferred room, and I'm wondering if we need to ask for a specific building or can we ask for it when we arrive. We have not stayed at CBR, but looking at the map it seems like some of the buildings in Martinique are just as far, from the food court and pool, as many of the non-preferred buildings.

Not all the buildings in Martinique are preferred. They will locate you in the buildings that are closest to OPR and the main pool. Welcome to the DIS.

:confused3 Sorry is this has been asked before. If I request a preferred
room, is the parking lot close to these buildings? And will they guarantee
a bottom floor? Thank you for your help....havn't stayed here in all of
our trips but would like to. :wave2: Shirley

The preferred buildings are Martinique 24, 25, 26, and Trinidad North 31, 32, and 33. Safetymom has a good map on her site that shows where they are, and where the parking lots are for those areas.

If you pay for a preferred room, you will be placed there. After that, you can request anything you want, and while they are only requests and not guarantees, the CM's will do their best to grant you your requests. My suggestion would be to request a preferred room, 1st floor, and leave it at that. None of the rooms are really too far from a parking lot, but you can always ask at check-in if there's anything closer to the parking lot if you don't like where they've put you. That, of course, is if 1st floor is more important to you than parking lot. Otherwise, request the particular building, and then hope for a first floor room also... No guarantees except being preferred, but it can't hurt.

You will LOVE CBR!

Thank you for your help. We have ressies for ASMu but am going to change
to CBR. Going May 1st for 6 days.....Thanks again for your help.

We have reservations for CBR for March 14-21st. This is my first time at this resort. After reading this thread (which I think is great!) I've learned which are the preferred locations and have requested them with the CR. My question is do I need to also reserve a room which has been recently renovated. I've heard that the resort has gone through some renovations and some of the rooms are new and some are tired looking. Does anyone know if the whole resort has been renovated or only certain areas?

We have a king bed room booked. Is that also considered a preferred room or a different category with the same charge? Just curious... :)
Thanks,
Deb

Okay I have read that the check-in building is seperate and thet you have to take an internal bus to get there. What about the gift shop?Where is it?

Also my TA just emailed me and asked what type of handicap room do I need for my dad. What kinds are there?

You would most likely only need to visit the Custom House when you check in. They will provide transportation to your room if you need it along with your luggage.

The gift shop is located inside Old Port Royale the food court. As far as the handicapped room types I would ask on the disabilities board here on the DIS.

You don't actually "have" to take the internal bus to the check-in building -- we were in Martinique 25, close to the food court and main pool, and we walked, never using the internal bus. Just depends where you are located, but the walk really isn't long to most parts, and the resort is beautiful!

There are two gift shops in Old Port Royale (the building with the food court adjacent to the main pool). They have nice souvenirs, and as I recall one of the shops has personal items, etc. that you can buy as well. Safetymom can give you a better description.

There are handicapped rooms that are totally wheelchair accessible. Those have raised seat toilets, a sink that a wheelchair can be driven up to and a roll in shower with a pull down seat and a showerhead that is adjustable(where the shower is sort of a tiled area of the bathroom). Many of those roll-in shower rooms are furnished with a single King sized bed to make more room (floor space) available for driving a wheelchair around.

The other type of handicapped room has the same bathroom as a regular room, but has grab bars in the toliet area and the shower (bathtub with a showerhead) and they might have a raised seat toilet.

I asked earlier re King bed room. Thanks Safetymom for your answer. My next question is...King bed room could be std, water view, or even preferred location, correct?

However it is my understanding that preferred location might mean either water or std view...

I have requested N/S, Jamaica or Aruba. Non-handicap accessible, knowing that all requests are just that.

Correct. When you PAY for a choice, it is guaranteed. $15 extra per night for preferred location (i.e., near OPR). $15 extra per night for water view. And believe it or not they won't let you pay for both. I tried online and the website wouldn't allow for both of those options simultaneoulsly. So then I called CRO on three separate occasions and each time was told I could not pay for both; if I wanted both, I had to pay for one and be guaranteed it, then REQUEST the other and hope it came through. So the long answer to your question is, if you book and pay for preferred location, you MIGHT get water view but it can't be guaranteed.

All this being said, in my opinion, water view at any moderate resort isn't worth paying for. First of all, the water you have a view of MIGHT be the village quiet pool and not the pretty lake (no, I'm not joking!). Secondly, since there is a walkway right in front of your room, in between you and your view (both first and second floors), I can't imagine how much time you'll be spending inside your room looking at your view because if you're doing that then all the people walking by can look into your room and have a view of you.

ENJOY WDW!

I agree it isn't worth paying for a water view. My sister was just at CBR and had a wonderful water view room but you also had all the people looking in the window into your room.

I don't really think there is a bad view at CBR.
