Caribbean Beach FAQ part VI

I just got back from a week at the CBR. My 4th visit. I have never had a problem before but, this time I had a few glitzes. I had checked in on line for a noon arrival. Was there at noon but, not in a room by 3 PM. Then when I got my room, I asked where the elevator was since I had told them I had an electric wheel chair. No elevator.

But, the CM was very nice and I got a corner room on the ground level:

I learned that when you put in a request, they may not see the whole request unless they scroll down. So I would prioritize my requests. I had asked for connecting rooms, a refrigerator and told them I would have an electric wheel chair. In retrospect, I wish I had said I wanted a ground level connecting room w/a refrigerator.

My door didn't work when I came back from the park the first day. I guess the battery in the door had died. I called and it was fixed w/in 10 min. My TV didn't work right. Engineering came but, said it was the weather. I ended up asking the manager to make sure it worked. Then I got back at midnight, the TV worked but housekeeping had not left me any coffee. I called and they brought me some right then so that I would have it in the morning. There was another day when they didn't leave me coffee but, I found their cart and got some.

But, I had a 15 ft walk from my car to my room. My room was in perfect condition. I got the impression getting a refrigerator was no longer a problem.

I think the new bedding is because people have complained about the cleanliness of a bed spread. How often do they wash the bedspread? Now, with a sheet, you can feel more comfortable laying down on the bed.

Our biggest problem was finding our way back to CBR from the MK!!! The roads are poorly marked. I ended up on Route 4 one night! I like CBR a lot but, think I will stay at POR next time because it is so easy to get to and from the MK from there.

The corner room looks bright and clean!

When we do make requests, I put them in the order of importance hoping that they will accommodate us.

At least maintenance was Johnny On The Spot and had your door fixed quickly. For what it's worth, I've read a lot of reviews that complained of the lack of mousekeeping lately at all of the resorts. It seems that they are slacking in their duties.

But, I had a 15 ft walk from my car to my room. My room was in perfect condition. I got the impression getting a refrigerator was no longer a problem.

From the most recent reviews, the refrigerators are slowly but surely being replaced in all of the resorts. Some people report having them and then others report that they don't. Go figure?

I think the new bedding is because people have complained about the cleanliness of a bed spread. How often do they wash the bedspread? Now, with a sheet, you can feel more comfortable laying down on the bed.

That's exactly what I think.

Oh gosh! Not on Interstate 4! When we used to stay offsite, we'd drive to Epcot and somehow we'd end up on Interstate 4. I hated it!

Thank you for posting your honest review and the pics!

Going to CBR in Dec for the first time. We requested Jamaica and we need to request connecting rooms. Does anyone know if there are any in Jamaica and if any of the corners rooms have connecting rooms? Those look really nice! Thanks!

There are definitely connecting rooms in Jamaica as we have had them several times. I can't remember if any of them were corner rooms though. Are the two rooms for yourself or are there two separate reservations? If they are separate, I'd suggest that you contact Disney Travel and have them link the two reservations. It increases the chances of having the rooms together.

Yes Jamaica has connecting rooms and some of the corner rooms connect. Make sure you list your requests in order of importance. The more you have the harder to get them honored.

Thanks! I didn't want that request to throw out the Jamaica request. And yes we are all linked up!

I'm about 95% sure that the corner room we had in Jamaica a few years ago was also a connecting room. It was room number 4557 I believe. We lucked out, as I couldn't imagine having a better room throughout the resort. It was a second-floor, corner, lake-view, room. Right outside the room was the staircase down to ground level that is the closest one to the foot of the bridge to OPR, and just beyond the stairs was the ice machine. If I felt I could request a specific room number and actually have a decent chance of getting it, I would request that room every time.

That sounds like all we could hope for! And we did book a water view! Just request that room and then we don't have to list it all out!! Thanks!! Hope it works!!

Then when I got my room, I asked where the elevator was since I had told them I had an electric wheel chair. No elevator.

I knew they have no elevators, but this is my worst fear. We did request rooms on the first floor as our first priority, but really it is more a requirement than a priority. Fingers crossed!

They were sure to ask us if we were ok with a second floor room at check in, and reinforced the fact that there were no elevators.

We've linked reservations three years in a row and we have always had either connecting or adjoining rooms since there our travel party consisted of three different reservations with one of those coming in several days after we arrived.

Each time my mother has traveled with us, I have requested a ground floor due to medical reasons and, each time, we have gotten our requests. If you haven't already, call and make sure that they have your request for a ground floor notated and the reason that you are asking for it.

I hope that you get one of the jobs that you applied for. It sounds as if you have been keeping busy and still earning that Disney money. :thumbsup2

That was super nice of your sister to give you her points! That's one expense that you won't have to incur.

Lawson is going to be so super surprised. I remember the time we surprised Hunter with a trip to Disney. I had switched jobs in May and thought that we wouldn't be going to Disney that year. Then, in August, I found a great deal, talked to my new boss and we were off to Disney.

Still keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

So sorry to hear you lost your job. Good luck with a new one & I'll keep you in my prayers. You seem to have such a positive attitude :flower3:

We just returned from a week long stay at CBR. It was our first time ever at this resort and to be honest, it was never on my list of places to stay. We booked here because it was the only thing available for free dining. I have to tell you, we really loved staying here!

We arrived from the airport around 11:30 am, but our room was not ready. The CM offered a room in Barbados, but having never stayed here I wasn't sure of the location and we had requested Jamaica. She got on the phone and they found us a room in Jamaica, courtyard view, corner room...we took it. The room was really nice. It had a working refrigerator, we loved the bedding and even though it was a double bed, it was super comfortable and we had no trouble sleeping! The room was spotless and mousekeeping did a fantastic job during our stay.

The grounds were just fabulous! What a beautiful sight to see! We had no problem navigating and loved the tropical feel. It does look like the islands and we wished we had taken more time to enjoy the resort. The beach was inviting, the lake was gorgeous, and no matter where you walked-it never felt crowded. We could have wandered for hours. The walk to the main building wasn't a problem at all.

Bus service was fine, but I do think that where you stay would make a difference. We were in Jamaica, so the first bus stop and the buses ran about every 20 minutes. We only waited for that long on our Animal Kingdom day. Our bus was generally full by the time we reached Barbados (3rd stop). So we would just head straight to the parks without going through all 7 stops. On the couple of times that we did all 7 stops, it took a bit longer.

What we felt was the only downside to our stay, the food court. Even though we do not utilize it a lot, we felt it was lacking. We didn't like the set up, we found that some of the CMs were not helpful, and the food choices at lunch/dinner were lacking. For the size of the resort, the seating area seemed really small compared to the other moderates. I would not want to be there during the busy season. It was not awful...just not our favorite of all the moderates/values we have stayed in. The store was the same way...we didn't like the set up and it didn't seem to have an abundance of merchandise to choose from. Package pickup was not well organized. This was not a deal breaker for us...I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

All in all...this resort has floated to the top of our list of favorite moderates. We had a great time there! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for a great review. We arrive in 15 days and your review made me more excited...if that was even possible. Glad you had a wonderful stay.

Thanks girl!! I don't feel like we will have to spend much since we have dining plan but you never know!! I'm super excited & this is about the only thing I have looked forward to since mom died a few months ago!

We surprised Lawson last year too but I think since he's a little older, he will be do excited when we pick him up and instead of going home, he will ask what we are doing on the interstate and Landen will be super excited to see Mickey- his favorite!

Thank you very much.. I'm trying to stay positive bc being negative wont change things. :) I'm just ready to be at Disney where I can forget! :)

Thanks for the great review -- I'm so looking forward to some stress free time. I'm disappointed, but appreciate your honesty, that you didn't like the food court -- on line the choices look good. We enjoyed the River Mill at POR, however, similar to you, the CMs weren't super helpful -- more like abrupt to the point of rude at times.
