Caribbean Beach FAQ part V

So excited!!! I already knew I would be at CBR with the fam for Christmas! NOW I will be there a couple of weeks later for my first ever half marathon!!!

I debated if I should just go with Movies (or Pop, though really Pop wasn't ever in contention...not interested in the themeing at all) or spend a little more and stay where I know I'll be comfy. I opted for stay where I know I'll be comfy!! :goodvibes:

Cannot wait!!!!

We also recently got back from CBR. Our stay was 8/29-9/3. We did online check-in and it worked fine, but wasn't a necessity. There were no lines for either place. We paid for a preferred room through Travelocity and got our requests (ground floor, connecting with my mom), no problem. I think they put us as far away from OPR in preferred as they could've...bldg 33 in Trinidad North. It wasn't really far, but slightly annoying, since I paid to be closer, and really don't think we were. We were very close to the bus stop, which was very nice, and had excellent bus service. I think one time, we wondered why it was taking so long, and then it showed up. Leaving the parks, we were very lucky and never waited more than a couple of minutes. I didn't love all the different stops at the resort...I think we've been spoiled by one stop at POFQ.

We have no complaints or issues with the room at all. It was perfectly clean and well kept. Overnight one night (or VERY early in the am), they powerwashed the walkway outside our room. That was a little noisy and annoying, but no one but me even noticed it.

We only ate at the food court, so cannot comment on Shutters. The turkey dinner was quite good, and I kept going back to that! I agree with a PP that it was really cold in there. In swim clothes with cover-ups, it was uncomfortably cool to sit and eat.

My daughter (10) preferred the slide at the pool at POFQ. She doesn't like enclosed slides, so she really stayed on the smaller of the two, but she enjoyed it. The kids water play area is fantastic in theory, but there are no lifeguards and the older kids playing in it like banshees made it unsafe for my 2 yo son. It was also much colder water than the main pool, which we thought odd. My son ended up wanting to be in the big pool anyway, so none of that really mattered in the long run. It seemed like the pool area was smaller than POFQ, but it could've just been perception. I hated to imagine what it would be like when it was really busy, though, as it was pretty crowded at times, and the parks and resort were not busy at all.
The bottom line for us is...CBR is a very nice resort, and we would certainly stay there again, but it wouldn't be our first choice. I would only stay there in a preferred area, personally. That was not because there were any problems, but just personal preference. For some, the size is a huge problem, for others, it doesn't matter. We were kind of in between, but we do prefer a smaller resort, in general. I would certainly recommend it, even though it wouldn't be my "goto" resort.

Hope that helps anyone looking for info!

Brooke

Our visit was from 8/27-9/5.

My wife got the turkey a few times as well (I got the pork- also very good). You did have to inhale it though, or it got cold.

I was also surprised that they didn't have a lifeguard in the children's area at the pool. It definitely got a little too chaotic in there at times with some older kids who weren't supposed to be there. Probably for the same reason they close the slides so early - cost cutting, as they don't want to pay the extra man hours for the lifeguards. And around the main pool was real crowded too - not a chair or lounge to be had the one afternoon I wasn't at the parks and went to the pool.

Even though you had a "preferred" loacation, I was probably closer to the pool/OPR than you were. If you do return, you may want to consider a water-view room (same price increase as a preferred) and request builing 45 or 51.

I have 2 questions:

Are corner rooms in Jamaica considered preffered rooms? I only want a standard view room?

Do most people get their room requests at this resort? If I wanted to do a bottom floor room in the Jamaica section and get a corner room, am I asking for too much?

Corner rooms are not preferred rooms. Just be sure to ask for the most important first because they may not be able to grant all your requests.

Corner rooms are not "preferred" rooms. Preferred rooms only mean location - Trinidad North and half of Martinique.

I've gotten my request both times. Just make sure you give them your requests in priority order.

Just wanted to clarify something. ONLY 24, 25 and 25 in Martinique are preferred? So for standard you could request 21, 22 or 23?

Yes, that's correct! :goodvibes

Sweet!! Thanks! I've never put a request on my room before (I'm usually not the one making the reservations - ha!), but for the Half Marathon I'm thinking I will. Might as well give it a shot, right?

So I could have them put that on when I call to put my deposit down, right? Just say I'd like to add a request for Martinique 22, 23, 21 in that order?

Yep - it doesn't hurt to give it a try!

Both times we have stayed at CBR we have received the building we requested. One time we got the top floor as requested and one time we got a bottom floor room.

You can put in your requests when you book. I also fax them down about 4 days before we leave. Some say they don't look at the faxes, some say they do.

Cool! Thanks so much!

I just booked our stay at the CBR today. :cloud9: I went for the pirate rooms just because it's my first trip to Disney and I wanted it to be extra fun and special. I can't believe nor do I think it's possible that I have to wait a year! But with that free dining I couldn't pass it up, and that time period worked best for us. It will be on our one year anniversary too since we are getting married on the 24th of this month, so how romantic! We'll be staying at CBR for 5 nights, I seriously can't wait!!!

Congratulations! You will LOVE CBR!!! :cool1:

Has anyone stayed in Aruba or Jamaica and been able to see the EPCOT fireworks from their balcony or the parking lot in front of their room?

2451 is second floor. First 2 numbers are bldg #, second 2 numbers are room #. 01 to 32 is first floor, 33 to 64 is second floor. That applies to all bldgs in CBR.

Ok, for the record, we have pretty much stayed in value resorts except for our honeymoon in 1994 (POFQ). Loved POP and it quickly became our 2nd home...but....we stayed at CBR last December and have booked 11/28-12/4 to stay there again at our DD4 request. We just went up Labor Day weekend and stayed at POP since it was a real quick, last minute trip, but now it didnt feel like home. Boy did I miss CBR!!!! We have a new 2nd home and I can't wait to get there. The size of the rooms, the closeness to parking, the ceiling fans, the refrigerator, the shopping....I missed it all. The next 77 days cannot go by fast enough. CBR now has us spoiled!:earboy2:
