Caribbean Beach FAQ Part IV

In 2008 we stayed in a Mod for the first time (POFQ) and fell in love with this resort. It was My hubby, myself, my mother and my son in 2 rooms so everyone had their own bed.
2009 hubby couldn't go so I decided to stay at PORS so my son (8yo) can use the trundle bed. He LOVED sleeping on it. My mother uses a scooter and there was plenty of room for it in the room.

This year it will be my mother, son (9yo) and myself going again. I booked the PORS again so my son could have the trundle but am thinking maybe we would like to stay at the Caribbean Beach in a Pirate Standard View.

I think that the Pirate room being so far away from the main pool/building area is turning me off. I'm thinking maybe if I ask for building 36 I will be close to the smaller pool, bus and playground. I stayed in building 17 at RS and it was a little walk but we were right by the smaller quiet pool, if you walked through the parking lot you got to the main buses and the main building was not that far of a walk either.

My big worry is the bus system. I HATE HATE HATE having to stop at all different areas in the same resort to get to a park. If you get picked up at Trinidad South does the bus go directly to a park/dd or does it stop at another CBR stop. I love the fact that the RS has a boat to DD. We use it often.

Sooooo I'm so undecided and confused about what to do.

We just got back from CBR and the resort was great. As was the room and bussing. I bought a bunch of CBR souvie's such as t-shirts, tank tops, key rings, magnets and the CBR photo album. All were on sale! But in talking to someone who was working there and finding out the reason all this stuff was on sale, was because eventually all souvie's will be just the Disney logo. Nothing resort specific!?? I couldn't believe it. I was so upset. I love buying items that are resort specific. So first it was the mugs taken so now this. :confused3

I don't understand why the bus briefly stopping a few times would bother you so much, but you and I aren't going to change each other's minds, are we??? :goodvibes

So let me just objectively tell you that for buses going to Downtown Disney and Magic Kingdom (two separate buses), Trinidad South will be the 4th of 7 stops. For buses going to Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom (three separate buses), Trinidad South will be the final stop within CBR (7th of 7) ... the next stop will be the destination.

I stayed at the Sports in 90 something and we had to stop at Movies and Music and it just annoyed the heck out of me. It felt like we were NEVER going to get to any of the parks LOL. Maybe that is why it drives me crazy I'm anixous to go to the parks :confused3 It's not a super important thing, it's just me I know but that's the way I feel. It's just one of "those" things. I'm sure you have something that drives you nuts that others don't understand. nails on the chalk board, people blowing their nose, squeeky brakes etc :rotfl:

My mother uses a scooter (yes, she is handicapped for real) and people get super mad when the bus driver asks them to move so she could get the "handicapped spot". Let me just say I ALWAYS stand if there are a lot of people. My son usually stands as well. My mother always offers to stay in her chair - some drivers let her, some don't (not her fault). When she can't stay in the scooter she always tells people around it to put their carriages or bags on the scooter instead of holding them. If there's hardly anyone on the bus then we sit. I just hate those looks and the snippy comments. We think we take up enough spots and don't need anymore comments about it. Yes, I know it's not everyone but it's enough people to be annoyed by it. So I figure if we are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th on the bus pick up how many people are going to get nasty when my mother is getting on the bus and they need to move.

I have been going to Disney for many many years and this is pretty much the only thing that drives me crazy. Well, that and the stupid parade in HS :lmao: I love my Motor Cars parade.

I am so close to picking up the phone and switching to the pirate room. I'm on the edge I'm up to page 30 on the thread by the end I'm sure I will switch. Just need more bus info.

OH and is the pirate room large enough to hold a scooter. I know that PORS had plenty of room for it.

We loved our Pirate Room! Our kids had a great time and the room was really big. I posted some pictures on this thread or you can see some pictures in my trip report below.

Don't worry about what people think about the scooter issue. Some people are rude about it. Most people are understanding though. At the end of the day everyone wants to get back to their room and rest.

We have a quirky bus issue as well. We prefer to sit. So we will wait at the stops until a bus comes along that has empty seats. Sometimes we have to let people go ahead of us in line. They look at us oddly, but I have a hard time balancing the way those drivers turn so quickly. So we wait a little longer so we can sit. October was a great time to visit, not too crowded so bus service wasn't bad. The worst of it was when we stayed at the park until closing. But that is to be expected.

The pirate rooms are exactly the same size as all of the other rooms in CBR. According to all sources except The Unofficial Guide, CBR's rooms are larger than the rooms in the other three Moderate resorts. CSR, POR and POFQ's rooms are 314 square feet, and CBR's are reportedly 340 sq. ft.

So if POR had plenty of room, then you can be absolutely sure there'll be enough room at any CBR room.

just watched the dis unplugged video of carribean beach and read the reciew they did of this resort. this resort looks so beautiful!! LOVE:love: the nemo rooms. i think i have made my final decision. i have to try this resort!!!! just keeping my fingers crossed for free dining!!:cheer2::cheer2:

All the pools at WDW are heated to 82 degrees.

Wow 82! I think our last trip to POP the heater was out! LOL we went in Sept and the pool was sooo cold my son's lips turned blue after a few min. I made him get out! So I hope that May at CBR is a bit warmer.

Can anyone tell me How you get to your room after you check-in at the custom house? is there a shuttle that picks up at the check-in frequentley to pick up guests? I would probably like to head to the food court to grab our mugs after we check-in. Thanks!

Yes, you can use the internal shuttle and it will take you to Old Port Royale

If you don't have any luggage with you, you can take the internal shuttle to your village. If you do have luggage with you, Bell Services will get you a van and take you (and your luggage) directly to your building.

I'm confused about CBR! I wanted to know is which standard or preferred room is quiet?

That's it, I made it to page 110 and give up!!!

I'm going to take the plunge and change my room back from PORS to CBR Pirate Room. I think my son (9yo) will enjoy the pirate room.
I will be traveling with my mother and 9 yo son so I do have to request the first floor and to be away from the courtyard. My mother will be using a scooter and I get violently sick from cigarette smoke. I'm thinking to ask for building 36.
I'm either going to bring a air mattress or rent a cot for the whole trip. My son is 9 and I don't think it's appropriate for young boys to sleep with adults-no matter who they are (no flames please it's just MY thinking)

I will try to get him in to the Pirate Cruise. This will be his 4th cruise (he's done all the others). We will also be doing the Halloween party twice (1 day for my son to do what he likes-rides and the other day is for my mother and I to do what we like-Character hunt and shows)

Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread and making up my mind. ;)
Now to wait not so patiently for the free dining to appear (if it does LOL)

I saw in a earlier post whare people have used gardengrocer.com to have things delivered to them to stock there room and minifridges. Dose anyone have any experiance with this and is this a good option:confused:
