Caribbean Beach FAQ Part IV

I saw in a earlier post whare people have used gardengrocer.com to have things delivered to them to stock there room and minifridges. Dose anyone have any experiance with this and is this a good option:confused:

I never had groceries delivered. I did research it for my last years trip though and I think they charge more for their items than a store does then they charge you to deliver it. Kind of a double whammy for me. I'm cheap LOL
I decided not to do this, instead I just did what I always did. I use a car service (Murray Hill) that picks me up from the airport drives me to Publix I get to shop for 20 minutes (I'm usually out within 10 minutes) and then they drive me Home (my resort). I find it much easier to have my "own" vehicle to do my shopping.

I'm sure others would disagree with me, to each his own.

My mother will be using a scooter and I get violently sick from cigarette smoke. I'm thinking to ask for building 36.
QUOTE]

Not sure this matters, but someone posted a review w/ pics & video of CBR including pirate rooms. In the review he mentioned that there was some sort of problem with the beds. I guess there is a very thin mattress top. (may not be a real mattress).... just thought I'd mention it because it sounds as if your mom may have some restrictions and sometimes a bad nights sleep reeks havoc:hug:

There is no smoking in the rooms at CBR. There are smoking areas in the courtyards in each village.

That's it, I made it to page 110 and give up!!!

I'm going to take the plunge and change my room back from PORS to CBR Pirate Room. I think my son (9yo) will enjoy the pirate room.
I will be traveling with my mother and 9 yo son so I do have to request the first floor and to be away from the courtyard. My mother will be using a scooter and I get violently sick from cigarette smoke. I'm thinking to ask for building 36.
I'm either going to bring a air mattress or rent a cot for the whole trip. My son is 9 and I don't think it's appropriate for young boys to sleep with adults-no matter who they are (no flames please it's just MY thinking)

I will try to get him in to the Pirate Cruise. This will be his 4th cruise (he's done all the others). We will also be doing the Halloween party twice (1 day for my son to do what he likes-rides and the other day is for my mother and I to do what we like-Character hunt and shows)

Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread and making up my mind. ;)
Now to wait not so patiently for the free dining to appear (if it does LOL)

You might want to check out where they have the smoking areas on the CBR map. We stayed in a water-view room in November because my sister wanted to pay for the upgrade from regular pirate room. Everytime we walked from our car to the room, there was always someone smoking in the courtyard (1/2 the time, it was the same guy). Some of the people had their curtains open, so I saw pirate rooms all around the courtyard.

But our room was on the other side of the building from the courtyard because it faced the lake (and pool - we had the rooms on the first floor corner end). We never had issues with smoke, but there would have been a stronger possibility that we would have if we had a std room. Just guessing on that...

I am allergic to smoke too (asthma). So, we'll probably bite the bullet and pay for the upgrade to water view for our 1-2 nights in Dec again - just so as not to have to worry about a room near the smoking courtyard(s).

We've used GardenGrocer once when we stayed at BWV. They were very good and prompt. I would guess they uptick their prices by about 10-15% (whereas Disney upticks their onsite groceries about 15-25%). They are pretty reasonable on water, milk, staples, etc.

We always drive to Disney, so normally we just go to Publix and shop ourselves. That particular trip, my sister had come with my kids and me a couple of days before my hubby flew into meet us. Since we were at the Boardwalk, we didn't want to have to unload all our luggage with valet, then go to the store, then unload our groceries with valet, and then park, etc, etc. (Several of the DVC resorts you can park outside or near your place, but Boardwalk is not one of them)

So for us, on that trip, the delivery fee would have been worth it. That being said - they delivery for free, at least they did then, for purchases over $200. I think otherwise, it's $12??? not certain...

I think if you think you'll need more than $50 or so worth or groceries, then it might be justified in paying the fee. Otherwise, you might come out better with Disney's hiked-up grocery prices.

The reason why I asked is that we chose to go with the quick dinning plan witch only has 2 meals a day so I figured we would just have breakfast in our room. Is there a place at the CBR whare I can buy a gallon of milk boxes of cereal, poptarts, water, 12pac soda ect ?

We have had garden grocer deliver to us the last 3 years and never had a problem. They always call your cell to confirm that they delivered the groceries. I just pick them up at bell services or have them deliver for me, but tip them for doing so. have fun!

safetymom! Thank you for this info! I think that CBR is the good choice for my family!

We are leaving for WDW next Friday (yippee!!!) and I decided to splurge a little on a pirate room which I know my son will love. I am concerned though because I just read a CBR review/blog here on Disboards which said that due to the design of the pirate beds, they could not fit a mattress and box spring into the bedframe. So, instead, there is just a box spring and a pillow-like topper, no actual mattress. The reviewer said it was the most uncomfortable bed he has felt and had to change rooms because it it. Can anyone who has stayed in a pirate room comment on this? I am somewhat concerned because I don't have the best back to begin with and was in a very bad auto accident yesterday which has made it worse. I would love to hear what those of you who have stayed in the pirate rooms think of the beds.

Here is the review I am referring to:

Thanks for any advice/comments!

We haven't stayed there yet, but I listened to the review on the podcast. Someone else there said that the pirate beds didn't bother them. I think it may depend on your preference. If you tend to like firmer mattresses it might not bother you.

I don't disagree with you, but we don't rent a car while we're there, so $12 for Garden Grocer's delivery works for us. ;) If we rented a car, I'd be at Publix myself!

Hi I have a few questions:lovestruchope you all can help. :lovestrucWe are thinking of staying at CBR in the pirate rooms. Are they near a pool? How far are they from the main pool and the food court?
Where is the best spot to see the epcot fireworks from?
Thanks nettii:goodvibes

I think they have at least 1/2 gallons. And I know they have cereals, etc. I'm sorry I don't know more, but I think that they have a small selection. We usually stay at DVC resorts, so those tend to have more groceries. But, I'm pretty sure I saw chips, dips, non-refrigerated breakfast items, etc in the store that is in the same building with all the food. I know they have fruits, etc.

If you're on the QSP, I'm pretty sure you can use some of your snack credits for things like a bagel with cream cheese or a single serving of cereal, etc. Also, if you ever eat at the food court fro breakfast, you will get TWO drinks per credit used. We never needed 2 drinks per person for every breakfast, so we'd grab milk or water or something for later and then stick the extra in the fridge for later. After 2 days of breakfast QS, we had 2-3 pint size milks, some water, and some soda all in our fridge.

So like we'd qualify for EIGHT drinks on say, day 1, if we used a QS credit for breakfast. My son and I would share a bottle of orange juice because they are so big. We walked out with 4-5 unopened drinks, lol.

Anyway - what I mean to say - is that you can be pretty creative with your snack credits to cut costs on breakfast.

(Another hint - if anyone likes Cinnamon rolls, go to Main Street Bakery on your way out of MK for the day and order 1-2 of their cinnamon rolls. They are HUGE - seriously almost the size of a large man's fist or even bigger. Those things can easily feed 2-3 people per each one the next morning)

There is a quiet pool near the pirate rooms in Trindad South as well as a kids' playscape, small sandy beach and some hammocks. It's about a 7-10 minute walk from the pirate rooms to the main pool/dining.

Not sure about the fireworks - sorry!

Thank you for the info! we are so excited to stay in the Pirate rooms.

How close is the bussing?

Thnks again Nettii:goodvibes

Are all the rooms at CBR refurbed to the Nemo rooms, aside from the pirates of course? Or did only some of the rooms get the update? If so which sections got updated?

I'm staying in June and just wondering if I will get a Nemo room or not! :goodvibes

Thanks so much!

All rooms were refurbed and now have a slight Nemo theme (other than the pirate rooms). :thumbsup2

Wow I'm so excited to hear that all the rooms are refurbed! Haven't been here since Jan 2009...can't wait to see what they've done with the rooms!
