Caribbean Beach Check in

Wanted to tell you all about the experience my husband and I had while trying to check into the Caribbean Beach Resort on Saturday, October 18th.
We got to the resort about 3:30pm (we rented a car) and we enjoy car shows. We know there is an old car show on Saturdays at Old Town in Kissimmee, that starts at about 5pm.

When we went to check in, Kerrie at the desk told us our room wasn't ready, because they had cleaned the carpets and it wasn't ready. She gave us a phone number to call at 5pm to see which room was ours. So being that it was just the two of us this time, we would just go to the bar, have something fun and fruity and wait for a little while and dump our stuff in our room and then go to the car show. No problem.

At 5 pm I called the number and they told me which room was ours and we went to the room, our room is in Trinidad North. We opened the door to the room and were blown away by the smell of the chemicals they had used to clean the carpets with. My husband has asthma and knew that he wouldn't be able to stay in that room smelling like that. Plus there were no towels, no coffee at the coffee maker...this room was CLEARLY not ready for any guest. So we called the front desk and explained our situation and asked if they had another room. They said they did and to wait right there someone would be by with new keys.

So we waited...we couldn't very well wait inside the room so we waited outside. After 45 minutes I called and asked where the runner was with the keys and the person on the other end of the phone assured us they were on their way. So we waited longer. After another 20 minutes my husband called again and the person on the other end of the phone said that someone went to the room and we weren't there. OK, Now we're getting mad.

So we drive to the front desk ourselves and get new keys. The room was directly above the room they had given us the first time, which is ok, but when I opened the door I noticed that someone's clothes were still in that room!! :scared1:

So we treck AGAIN back to the front desk and told our story to the front desk and said if we were sure someone's stuff was in that room, because the computer showed that room as clean. We told him to check himself, but he said that was ok and he gave us yet another room. This third person was the FIRST person to apologize for any mix up we were having. This room was satisfactory and we are here now trying to enjoy ourselves. But no one called to see if we were ok. No one else apologized for the state of our room, or the problems we had. My husband ended up missing the car show and consequently missed some friends we had made at that show last year, so we were very disappointed on our first day in Disney World!

Who would you contact to help with this?? Or to even let the resort know their mistake so it won't happen again?

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience at CBR! I would contact the manager and explain the mess-up on their part.

Well if my Room wasn't ready at the check-in time I would ask for compensation for the amount of time you weren't in your room. I've done this in the past when it wasn't ready in time and have gotten small tokens like a meal discount or vouchers. I'm paying for the room at xx time so it should be ready.

When we called the manager today to tell him/her the story, they offered a $92 credit and said I could put it toward my internet charges...I said "what internet charges?" I'm a DVC member and shouldn't get charged for internet.

The manager told me that this wasn't a DVC property and that I would get my internet for free. But when I called the front desk on my first night here, they told me that the charges would be taken off. I'm unhappy right now.

DH and I are just about ready to buy into DVC, so I'm curious about this. I thought you only got free internet at a DVC property when staying on points. Is that not the case?:confused3

evidently this happens ONLY at DVC properties when staying on points. I didn't know this and when I called when I got to CBR the front desk told me I could use the internet, but the manager told me I would get charged for it. I also found out the first number I called was a call center that's why they said yes, and when I got to the manager of the hotel they said no.

So I may or may not be able to post again after today, so I don't have the argument of charges on my bill when I check out.

Thanks - that's what I'd heard. Sorry you've had so much trouble with your stay at CBR - hope the rest of your trip is great!

I am sorry to hear you are having problems. The best thing to do is continue to deal with the manager at the resort.

You might also want to talk with DVC member services and see what they say about the internet charges.

I would write a letter to the General Manager of CBR. Let them know what happened but write the letter not expecting anything, other than an apology, in return. They need to know when they royaly mess up so that they can take steps to assure that it doesn't happen again.

As far as the internet connection I always understood it to be that the free internet was only at the DVC resorts and only if staying on points.

That is the case. I just read a whole debate about this matter on the DVC forum. A woman, who is a DVC member as well as an owner of other timeshares, was expecting free internet when she was staying at a DVC resort since she is a member. The problem was this time she had not used her DVC points (she exchanged for points through one of her other timeshare companies). Even though she actually is a legitimate DVC member, they wouldn't give her free internet since her stay was not booked with her DVC points. Apparently this twist also applies when you stay at a non-DVC resort.

just wanted to update all of you. Still no apology from CBR. Called my DVC person. he's working on it. you will get free internet Only on DVC property ONLY If using points. we got a $92 refund. So that helps.

using a web enabled phone right now. But it's Disney, I'm still having a BLAST!!

What exactly are you wanting from CBR? You got a $92 refund for the internet so I'm not sure what it is you are wanting. Just curious.

I got what I was asking for. My vacation was fabulous after that! Just a bump in the road.
