We've always used a carseat in the past with DS, but am wondering if it's time to move him up to a CARES harness. It would be a lot nicer not having to lug a carseat through the airport!

He meets the requirements (age and weight), but am wondering if he's too little and squirmy to try it just yet?

Anyone used a CARES with a child this young? How did you make out??

Yes, it will be fine. I have used it w/my 1st DS starting at 19 mos. I did buy a neck pillow for him b/c he would fall asleep & his neck would be cranked to the side.
My 2nd DS will be using it for the 1st time at 13 mos. It is so much easier than bringing a car seat & I still feel he's safe. The only issue I had was that he would slide down & I would keep having to pull him back up. It would be nice if there was a way to have a belt come betw the legs to stop that. As he gets bigger, this is less of an issue.

Thanks so much for the tip about the neck pillow!

As for them sliding down, I read someone suggest to put a square of rubber shelf liner on the seat and have the child sit on that to prevent slipping. I don't know if it will work, but I'm going to try it!

We used the CARES harness when we flew to Cayman this last May (4 yo and 2 yo). Yes the younger one did slip a bit, but it was easy to adjust her and was not that big of an issue. Now I wish we had bought it sooner! We love ours!

We used the CARES harness for DD who was 18mos at the time...and also the square of shelf liner to keep her from sliding...we loved it...so great not to have to lug her giant/heavy carseat around...:thumbsup2

I used CARES too when my daughter was younger... worked great. I always took a moment to explain it to the people behind us, since the strap goes under their tray table, and not everyone is familiar with CARES yet.

The buybuybaby website how to video says the minimum age is 2 years, so I guess you DS does not meet the age requirement.

I'm guessing they have the 2 yr old requirement because there is no leg strap.

CARES is approved for kids as young as 1 year old, minimum weight of 22 pounds.
