Carbonite

Reading some of the posts it may be possible that people are looking at backing up in the wrong way. Here is what I do, I usually back up only information that I put on the computer, such as documents, photos, videos and the programs themselves I don't backup. Once I put the program on my computer I just take the software home or leave here in my office. I guess I have never been thru a full restore, but I would imagine that some of the software may need to have the keys to be re-entered, I am not sure. Oh well just my two cents. Have a wondering Disney Day and New Year. Patrick
I don't believe that any online backup providers (outside of maybe enterprise-level solutions like Barracuda) offer bare metal restores; ie, the ability to take a backup and put your entire machine back the way it was before. The online backup places generally won't even back up your registry - only the groups of files you tell it. This can be a danger for the average user who might not know exactly where their important data is kept - hence, the backup sets that they offer. Theoretically, check a box and your email is backed up.

Im using right now ZenOK OnlineBackup as my Backup service It works fine and I have plenty storage space available to protect my important photos and Files ..I think carbonite is a good one 2.

I'm a big fan of NTI Shadow and using external hard drives at home.

I have a NetGear ReadyNAS which was my main backup storage device, but one of the drives in it failed a few weeks ago, and that was after about 4 or 5 years of continuous use. That was a problem with the drive, not the device. Keep in mind, that since it's a dual drive device if one drive goes bad your data still exists on the other. So I didn't lose anything. Once I get around to replacing the drives I'll get that back online. Until then I have my NTI Shadow pointed to a separate physical drive mounted in my computer. Important tidbit there, just because your computer says it has C, D, E, whatever drives that doesn't mean they're on separate physical hard drives.

It's just a preference of mine to manage my own backups. I know that bankruptcy of an online company won't leave me hanging. Now being driven to bankruptcy of my lovely wife....
