Hi Everyone, I read the SW F & Q but didn't fully understand the info about car seats - my son is 6.5 and is traveling with a boster as we are renting a car and he needs it for that .. Do i put it with my checked luggage or do i carry it on ?? and does it count towards our luggage allowance. ? Thanks Michelle

Booster seats are not allowed on Southwest only 5 point car seats. I would check it as there is no need to lug it around the airport when you can't use it on the plane. I don't know if it counts as checked luggage on not but I'm sure someone else will reply

Thanks - I did know he would not be using it on the plane but didn't understand the wording about if it would be checked or carried on .. anyone know ? Thanks Again.. Michelle

DS 7 uses a high back booster, and we always send it thru as checked luggage. My guess would be that SW and not let you carry it on board, and make you check it. Since we have never gone over the bag limit I don't know if it counts against your limit. If that's important call SW for the answer.

You're going to have to check the booster, since your son won't be using it on the flight. On SW, you may check one child safety seat per paying passenger free of charge, and still have your 3 bag allowance. I found this information in SW's Contract of Carriage.

SWA allows 3 checked pieces per person. If there is Mom, Dad and Son I would hope that you would have less than nine pieces of checked luggage including the booster seat. The weight limit for checked luggage is 70 pounds

We just did this in Jan on SWA. Checked DS's high backed booster. We had put our name/address on the bottom with Masking Tape, and they wrapped it up in the BIGGEST plastic bag I had ever seen. Came through without a problem. DH also put a bungee in the outside pocket of our wheeled suitcase, and bungeed (? ?) the booster to the case so we did not have to lug it. They are not heavy, just awkward.

Thanks for the info.. we have just a reg older seat type boster ( no back on it ) I will keep in mind about the bunge strap.. Michelle
