Title says it all, but wondering what your opinions are of getting a car rental during Christmas week. Our last stay in wdw last November, we rented a car. We split stayed between pop and kidani. We used the car out of necessity only once to get to Ohana for dinner, once to get from akv to epcot when the busses were backed up, and once on the last day. It was nice to leave MK via boat, get in the car and head to the airport. Parks were not overwhelmingly packed.
Here we go back again, Xmas week! This time splitting our stay between Okw and Kidani. If all things were equal to our last visit I would skip the car this time around and "rough it". But there are two changes to the scenario. 1, Okw is a wildcard where we will be placed in the resort. Not overly keen on being the 2nd or 3rd stop on the route. 2. It's the busiest time of the year.
I have the rental booked at a decent price, but wouldn't mind $200 in my pocket instead for the trip. So the question is...is getting a car more important when it is busy or is the opposite true? Maybe there is more time spent waiting to park then waiting for the busses when the parks are full? Maybe parking lots get full that we can only bus in anyway? Anyone have experience renting and not renting during the holidays?
Second, can you get into the parking lots early enough to be early for rope drop? We are rope drop people and the car will be no help if lots are not open early enough for us to get to the front.
Thanks.
