Car rental for summer???

I am looking at car rental prices for July or August -Not Orlando,but either Kansas City,St Louis,or a combo of both....the rates are OUTRAGEOUS!!!! any advice? I can afford plane fare,but not car rental,which means I'll probably just drive my own car (sigh) is there any help out there? TIA!!!

Try kayak. Try using a AAA, COSTCO or AARP discount. Do you qualify for a weekly rate?
What rates are you finding?
The rates we get in Orlando are outrageous. Very low. Unprofitable. Most of the country a rate of $200-$300/week is excellent.
