Car Rental for Legoland

We're heading to WDW end of August and staying at POFQ. But we've promised one of the kids that we'll go to Legoland for one day. Using Magical Express and Disney transportation otherwise. Could someone explain in baby steps the easiest way for us to do this? I've been looking around and everything looks so confusing. Can I get a car right at the hotel? Somewhere else on Disney property? Or is there another way to get to Legoland that would be even easier than renting a car? Thanks for any help!

I think there is a shuttle from one of the Orlando malls.

We rented a car from the WDW Car Care Center (national rental car) onsite and they picked us up from our resort. We rented it to go to Universal and when we dropped it off the next day they took us back to the resort. Very convenient.

We rented a car from the car care center at WDW, located near MK. Made a reservation with National Car rental for 24 hours (what worked for us.) I called and was picked up by a free shuttle that took me to the rental car. Completed the paperwork and got the keys. Drove to our resort for the night. We all went the next morning to Legoland. I brought my GPS from home, but you can also rent one. After the day at legoland, I dropped the family off someplace, I can't remember where, and drove the car back. The free shuttle then took me to where my family was. No problems with this.

The Legoland shuttle is $5.00 per person roundtrip. The shuttle is at the outlet mall (Vineland) but you need to pre-book. I made the reservations through the Legoland website.

Thank you for the replies. I'd love to do the shuttle---but that still means I need to get from Disney to the shuttle stop. I assume that would still entail a car. So I think renting from the Car Care Center is the way to go for us. Sounds great with the shuttle, too! That's the part I was wondering about. So do I rent directly from National and just deal with them? It's not connected to Disney in any way--other than being located there? All your help is appreciated!

We took a cab from our hotel to the outlet mall. Vineland outlet is not too far from Disney.

I wouldn't drive.... the ride to Legoland is approx 1 hour each way.
