I know this has been posted before, but without much response, so I am trying again. Which would you choose and why, Captain's Grille or Cape May? I am interested in crab legs, and my son loves ribs, which I believe are on Cape May's dinner buffet. I am mostly interested in where the food tastes the best. We are on the DDP and only want to use 1 credit. Thanks for any opinions that are out there! :thumbsup2

We have never been to Captain's Grille so I can't compare but we ate at the Cape May dinner buffet and loved it! My DH said it was the best seafood buffet he had ever been to. He had three or four plates of food. I thought everything was very good too. Then, to top it off, the desserts were absolutely wonderful! My DH was surprised it was a 1 TS credit restaurant. For him, it ranked right up there with Le Cellier. Hope this helps!

I think Captain's Grille has crab legs as well. You might check the menus here on DIS. We did both last year, and it's hard to compare!

They were both delicious with excellent service. Of you want a casual, beach atmosphere that's boisterous and fun, then CM is for you. If you want a more formal (but still laid-back casual) restauraunt, then Captains Grille. We couldn't decide, so we did both, and if faced with the decision again, ummm, I guess I'd have to say Captains Grille, because there are things there we haven't tried, yet. But I love those crab legs on the buffet! I might add I wasn't impressed with the desserts at CM. But those crab legs!

We have never been to Captain's Grille either. We have been to Cape May though. Our probably favorite time to eat their is Breakfast, because they have many of the characters come around to all the tables to meet you and do autographs. The food is also delicious there. Lunch buffet maybe the best for you though. They had many seafood- foods- one of my DD13's favorites was the clam chowder and we aren't even "clam" people:cutie:. I am not sure if we have done dinner or not, but I am sure it is great:thumbsup2

Hope this helps!

I've done CM about 4 times.... However this was before Snow Crab Legs...

DH and I did CG during the last "full family" visit in 2008... they've changed the menu a bit since... it was our "Date Night"...

Food: I had Prime Rib (not sure if still on menu) at CG. It was good. At CM... I liked their carving station and mashed potatoes, the desserts looked great ...the selection was good enough to feed family of 5 including kids who were picky...newly pescetarian, and somewhat picky...the kids liked the boiled shrimp... DH liked the spare ribs.

Atmosphere: CM is busy busy as most buffet's are. CG did not provide a "private date night" scenario that DH and I would have liked...in fact.. we were seated SO close to another couple... we just ended up conversing with them.

Price: Price was probably very similar.

I don't know if that helps... I won't be back to either restaurant for quite a while... I don't "dislike" either... however I am trying new things and NEITHER Cape May Nor Captains Grille were a "Destination Restaurant" in my humble opinion....

Hugs,
Mary

Cape May, hands down.

Food is MUCH better and the atmosphere is fun. Lots of hustle and bustle going on and if you are like me that is a good thing.

I found the Captain's Grill to be stale and boring. No real theming, certainly no "hustle and bustle". Reminded me of any restaurant I could dine in at home.

Well I made my reservation for Cape May Christmas day this morning. I think we will also try Captain's Grille another night. We are not planning a park for Christmas Day so this should be fun. With 8 people I think there will be something for everyone:thumbsup2 Thanks for everyone's replies. I really appreciate the advice!

We really like Cape May. The ribs were very good as was everything else that we ate. I am looking forward to eating here again!

Hello all. My first post; just registered. Glad to be with you. I have some questions about the Cape May dinner buffet, please.

Are the crab legs served hot or cold? And, is there an additional cost for them? We always visit the Boston Lobster Feast for our crab legs fill, but since we have the Disney free dining option, might as well 'cash in' at Cape May!

Also, I imagine the place is full of diners. So, do they keep the crab legs refilled well?

Considering exchanging our Trails Inn (or is it End?) reservation for Cape May.

Thanks, Julie
*now if I can just happen upon a reseration at Le Cellier! I'll keep trying.

Cape May is great! My husband is not a seafood person and he finds plenty to eat there. We went in 2000 and again in 2008, and when I asked my kids if there was anywhere they wanted to eat again this November they both asked to eat at Cape May. My daughter liked the food and my son liked the fact the "table cloths" were paper and they gave you crayons to draw on them :woohoo: He is also excited they have lava cakes...those are his favorite dessert:yay:

You will not be sorry!! We have done CMC on Christmas Day twice and the food was out of this world. The trukey and stuffing was to die for.

I personally prefer Cape May. I love the food, it's great! Plus, I love drawing on the tablecloth! :cool1:

And this is exactly why I love the place. There is no place I'd rather be for vacation than WDW; but it's nice to get away from the sensory over-load one can experience racing to get to a rope drop, run around the park like park commando's, catch what you want to watch and do, and finally sometime around midnight you finally decide to go back to the room and crash.

So for me, if I can find a place for two hours during my week which is "stale" and "boring" with no "real theming", no "hustle" and "bustle" yet still offer good food (IMHO better than Cape May) Then count me in. I personally found Captains Grill to be a very pleasant surprise for us. ;)

But then again, we all have different tastes, styles, and opinions. When it comes to restaurants, none of them are wrong.

Lots of info; thanks. I think we are leaning towards CMC, since hubby is a crab leg commando! He likes to eat lots of them & the buffet will allow that. If we have time available, we'll try Captain's Grille too.

Looking forward to our first time on the DDP. Hoping for an extension of the "free" special into October & November!

Did they have the regular offerings on Christmas day as well? I don't want them to eliminate crab legs for turkey! :rotfl: I live in Iowa and turkeys are plenty, but no crab legs!
