Sorry if I missed earlier discussions on this but...
WDW...WHAT IS GOING ON? o_O
I've made almost annual visits annually since 1972.
Then I lived 15 min away for 5 yrs til '19 & visited several times p/month.
The only time we hit capacity crowds was Xmas.
Now, we need park ressies, subject to availability & sale of APs are paused bc CROWDS!
I understand we all love WDW & many postponed visits bc Covid.
But why are daily crowds such an issue beyond even Xmas or NYE just a few yrs ago?:confused3

Was there this weekend.
Yeah it was pre-covid crowds.
I was there in late August and the place was empty.
I'm sure its that international travel has resumed so now there's a second wave of "revenge travel".

Yes Thx...But my bigger concern is why are crowds such an issue all the time now requiring park availability ressies AT ALL?
Of all the recent changes, I find that to be the most restricting & disturbing.
Wondering if it is bc WDW is now continually understaffed ?
It does seem maintenance isn't up to par..Never had so many attraction issues.

Staffing is a huge problem is the understanding.

I'm sure there's still a staffing shortage but I will say that I saw many more CMs this past weekend than I had in the 3 trips prior to covid.
At nearly every attraction I saw at least 2 CMs at each post.
I believe Disney has been using the park pass reservation system to gauge the appropriate amount of staff.

I am confused tbh by the Thanksgiving break crowds: According to tickets and passes and LL availability, crowds are off the chart. But according to Touringplans, the historical data shows less than predicted crowds. I know they base theirs based on ride data, but if LL availability is going fast, then wouldn't Standby lines be long too? I am so confused...

I'm starting to get worried about my trip starting next week, I have a feeling those 4's for crowd levels aren't anywhere near correct.

In this link it says they laid off 30K parks workers across US and I believe that was mostly last year. Josh D’Amaro mentions exact number of employees being re-hired at Disneyland (more than 10,000) but for WDW he keeps it super vague right?

Then after these thousands of people were laid off WDW required vaccinations of all remaining theme park employees in Florida. Was that June or July? I think July of this year off the top of my head.

I’m sure many left. Perhaps some were terminated since companies give employees a time period to get “on board.”

Then just recently Governor DeSantis made a law that businesses can’t require vax in Florida. That no one should lose their livelihood right now. Forbes specifically quoted a representative of the Governor mentioning Disney:

“DeSantis spokesperson Christina Pushaw told Forbes,“As we would expect, Disney has amended its vaccination policy to comply with Florida law... Nobody should lose his or her job over COVID vaccine mandates.”

As someone who was part of a layoff after ~2 decades of service to a company that has billions on the books in liquidity (it’s right there in said company’s annual report) - I guess these companies should have thought about who was going to serve their customers when they dumped us on the street like garbage.

I feel like many of these companies thought we’d be on a break. Like when someone wants to take a break from a relationship. They got government money for their companies plus they got the government to take on some of their payroll responsibilities via the whole furlough/unemployment scheme. Then they want you back! And they are shocked you’re not into this wonderful on-again-off-again thing they’re offering lol! Actually mine doesn’t even want me back. They just want to replace me with a cheaper model.

Perhaps a Disney bean counter figured out that it’s cheaper for disney to remain with the staff they have (or slowly rehire) vs. fully ramp up for the holidays even if that means some park goers can’t get into the parks because of ticket shut downs. Just get “more from less“ as my ex company loved to say.

Even if disney wants to hire people fast - how can they? How long will it take to vet and hire thousands of employees. If they hire a ton of people but can’t get enough trainers how can they ramp up?

My ex company even created a special web site to “fast track people who were laid off and want to reapply.” Good luck to them.

WDW customers (and I include myself in that as I’m going soon too!) welcome to the ”poopie” show. Disney isn’t behaving any different than any other tourism company. Woefully understaffed and unprepared because of their initial pandemic greed.
