Can't Miss Effects

Is there an attraction you head to every time just to see a certain effect or scene because it just dazzles you, delights you, or makes you wonder 'how did they do that?'

Riding the Great Movie Ride, when we got to the Oz scene, the Wicked Witch was so realistic that honestly I thought "Oh, that's cool that they have an actress in here doing this part!" It wasn't until later that I discovered it is an animatronic. That effect alone makes the GMR worth riding.

Soarin'! I love the feeling of flying and I can't wait to see the new one!!!

I love the part in Mickey's Philharmagic where the champagne cork pops and it sprays water at you. I don't know why, I just love that part.

Similar to this, but there are a few attractions that use that same sort of effect but build up some anticipation to it. Tough to be a Bug comes to mind, where you see the stink bug on screen and the second you do you know what's going to happen, so you just sort of brace for it and get that knot in your stomach that build until the 'payoff.' Another, perhaps unintentional, would be on Splash Mountain before the first real lift hill when you are to the side of the main drop. There can be a log jam there from time to time, and whenever a car goes down the drop next to you, a jet shoots water up right at a specific spot at the base of that lift hill. More than once I've been in a situation where, when you see the spray the first time, the whole log starts freaking out and trying to will the log to beat the spray.

Great question! The Grand Hall of the Haunted Mansion, without a doubt. Even though I know how the effect is achieved, I still feel wonder and delight every time I see those ghostly couples dancing, the dueling portraits trading shots, etc.

The Haunted Mansion ballroom. I am one of the few who have purposely never researched how the effect is created and don't want to know, though I assume how its done in the back of my mind. It beats any other special effect out there simply because it was created at a time when special effects weren't easy to achieve.

I won't give you any spoilers, but I can tell you that the effect behind the Ballroom Scene was used in Parisian cabarets in the 1890's.

I know it sounds silly, and is not a "how did they do that?" type of effect, but the fiber optic lights in the sidewalk at Epcot at night, is my can't miss effect. It makes me so ridiculously happy, and I can't explain why. I love anything with fiber optic lights because of my memories of when I was a child in Epcot. (I used to be obsessed with those fiber optic strand "wands" we had during fireworks).

I'm also excited to see the new interactive queue for Peter Pan for the first time. From the youtube videos I've watched, that looks like it'll be a can't miss for me too.

I typically am not a fan of 3D/4D movies but I love Mickey's Philharmagic. I think it has the best effects.
OT- On our last visit, I felt like it needed a refurb. Not so much because of the movie but many of the chairs were broken, seats look shabby, etc.

I always loved riding Soarin' for the part where the Thunderbirds fly by. I'm really going to miss that scene.

I loved the part where you fly down by the men fishing in a boat. I feel like I could dip my feet in the water if I stretched lol.

Epcot (Future World) at night is still one of my favorite places on earth! The fiber optic sidewalk lights, the jumping fountains outside the Imagination Pavilion.... I don't know if I could pick one perfectly favorite effect, though. This thread only has one page and everyone's already listed several good ones. To add something different, I'll go with Brave Little (Tailor) Mickey during Fantasmic! with the sword against Maleficent. I totally understand how it's done and it's really a small thing, but I'm already so caught up in the "magic" that is still delights me every time.

Celebrate the Magic. The first time I saw the castle appear to rearrange and shift just blew me away. I love to watch that. And the Elsa part gives me chills between the effects on the castle and the music.

I also really love Tink flying from the castle because I just can't help thinking what an amazing (and maybe a little scary) job that person has.
