I would go with BLT for its proximity to MK, especially since there will be young travelers who have not been to WDW before.

Although I think it would be really awesome to have a Savanna View room at AKL, I think bringing two kids for their first trip to WDW would warrant BLT. That is, unless they would prefer animals over the Magic Kingdom. I think, at that age, being close to the Magic Kingdom would be the best choice. We love being within walking distance of the Magic Kingdom (and on the monorail)! I don't think you'd lose either way. It's bound to be a terrific trip!

For you AKV -- you normally stay at VWL and are used to being at that end of the resort. AKV is very different in theme, culture and the incredible savanna. You and your family have the opportunity to talk with cast members who come from a part of our world that many don't have an opportunity to visit. Stay at Kidani for larger better designed villas.

For your BIL and family -- they might prefer BLT for a first visit with young children where they can see the MK lit up at night, fireworks, the floats on the lake, the monorail, etc.

If your trip is long enough consider a split stay and enjoy both. If not, go with being the good host and go to BLT. Then enjoy AKV on another trip.

And here I thought you were going to suggest we stay at AKV and put my BIL and family over at BLT....hmmm, might be a good idea .

ETA: I have to say it has been so interesting watching my poll through the day. Just about all day AKV has been just a little bit ahead, now BLT has taken the lead. I am leaning one way right now, by morning who knows what I'll want!

We do both! We stay the bulk of our trip at BLT to be near the monorail and do MK, Epcot, etc . . . then we stay our last two nights at AKV and enjoy AK park. It's the best of both worlds!
