We've booked our quick cheapy for October half-term, can't believe it!!!After weeks of agonising over whether it will be worth it, then sorting it all out for DB to decide he DOES want to celebrate his 50th birthday after all, we've finally booked.
Owing to a rather expensive trip to the States at Easter for skiing in Vermont and then sightseeing around Boston, we didn't think we would be able to get away again this year. Then on the flight home from Boston I had a longing for Florida sunshine - we're due to go over with our ski buddy friends next August (their family's first trip), but that seemed so long away and we had so many Virgin Atlantic flying miles, I thought it would be easy to pay for flights using our miles, borrow our friend's apartment down at Ft Myers Beach and just chill for the half-term break (work in a school so can only get school hols off).
But it wasn't that simple . . . no VA miles redemption available; no friend's apartment available - but I was not to be deterred. Over £200 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers were in the bag, couldn't we do something with them, so off to the Tesco website. Yep, Florida - but we wanted to go for 8 nights (got a day off school for me owing
) not 7 as per Cosmos (the only other provider for Tesco was Virgin who had no availability). We'd set a very tight budget and I was determined to see if I could do it.
And I have
Cut a long story short, I've this morning booked flights into Tampa with American Airlines, transferred my Tesco Clubcards to Airmiles which is paying for the hotels both in Tampa when we chill on the beach for a couple of nights, but also in Orlando. We probably won't do more than one Disney Park cos we love US/IOA, thinking about Busch Gardens, possibly.
Flights - £1100 for the three of us (if you've seen my previous posts I simply could not justify the £8-900 BA/VA want for half-term)
Heathrow overnight stay at Crowne Plaza - £90 incl car parking (real bargain!)
US/IOA tickets - £51 each
Admittedly the flights will be our first experience of indirect, but for the price they have to be worth it (everything crossed
).Let the rest of the planning begin

Off to change my countdown now

It's my 30th in December and I'd love to go for my birthday or just after.
