Back to Disney, I like your suggestion about the cheaper tickets:thumbsup2

Have you subscribed to the newsletter from www.mousesavers.com? If so, there is a link in the newsletter for tickets through Undercovertourist.com. As far as I know, this link provides the best prices around for WDW tickets.

Question though...you mention leaving your stuff in the minivan so you don't have to bring it on the boat. What/how much are we talking about here? Maybe the answer is to pack simpler so that you have less stuff? You have a condo, so I'm assuming laundry could be done there before you leave for the cruise.

LOL have to agree with the absurdity........

Here's a reality check.... Last night I went and picked up a dog that needs rescue. The family has 2 little girls. AS they were hugging and kissing the dog goodbye, i realized they made the ultimate sacrifice. The mom sacrificed the dog for children's food! After she admitted to selling her plasma for the last bag of dog food and bread. Can you imagine being that poor? My heart goes out to her. (little does she know but xmas WILL be ok this year)

this thread started out a bit sad and pitiful...and has now reached the level of just plain entertaining......:lmao: are we still talking saving pennies on a trip Op can't afford? I'm not sure any of this is for real anymore- stocks and bonds in the same sentence with pennies for parking and tips for cruise staff and garage sales and selling blood......:rotfl2: Am I the only one that notices the glaring absurdities here? I don't get it,but it's amusing!

No you are not the only one that thinks this is just plain silly. First i have come to the conclusion to not believe everything i read on here. I personally believe some people are just looking for attention and/or sympathy esp if the same question has been asked more than once and by the same person.
If a person who has already been to WDW really want to go again by now they should know how to swing a good deal even if it mean staying offsite and eating at McDonalds. That's no where near 3,000 or 2,000 dollars or selling blood/plasma or cashing in stocks and bonds or doing a garage sale.

Bless you! DD was just asking if there were food pantrys for dog/cat food and I got to thinking that wasn't a bad idea. I might check with our church. DH said it wouldn't help with the vet bills though. I can't imagine the pain in giving up your pet, especially when there are some really cheap dog food brands out there.
As for the original poster...you almost need a shovel now, it's definately a troll!

You have to keep in mind that sharing information on a thread can benefit not only the OP, but others who lurk or find themselves with similar questions. So while you may have misgivings about the OP's motives, an answer that you offer to him may actually help someone else. :)

Oh, my! That is so sad! Makes you really count your blessings! Dh and I were just having a uhmmmmmm "discussion" last night that really came from shortage of money and his needing another job. This makes me see that I should just feel blessed that he still has a job (at least for a bit longer). It also makes trying to tell someone how to get $3000 to get to Disney seem a bit absurd!

I'm with you - it started out sounding like someone who doesn't know how prioritize or manage money. Then came this post by the OP...

ticket reseller, what is that sounds good.
Parking for 12 days is $14.95 times 12=179.40 plus taxes. cheaper to get hotel and get well rested.
I could fill up at work and I would need about $60 to get home.look at me I'm cutting corners:banana:
If I drop my car off I will have to drag all my stuff on the boat, not fun. I would rather leave most stuff in minivan at the port.

I could sell some stocks and go right now but I'm trying to do this without dipping into savings and stocks. I bought a casino stock and it has gone from $1.80 to $18.00. If I sell it now I will miss out on major profit. They will be releasing their IPO in hong kong in November and it will go up and in January they are opening up casinos in Asia and it will go up even more. It should be in the 30-40 dollar range by March. It is Las Vegas Sands symbol LVS if any of you want to get in on this and it will help it go up if you buy it. Just a little stock tip for you, if your interested.

Then the thread just became ridiculous and now borders on an advertisement IMO. It's as if the OP got people into the conversation talking about his supposed troubles just to turn around and advertise his company and try to get people to invest. Isn't advertising in threads against DIS rules?

Unless the OP is the majority stockholder in that company, this would not be interpreted as advertising.

ETA - Do you really think that anyone who is investing in single stocks is going to take advice from a stranger on a Disney message board? Especially from someone who appears to be all over the place with their personal finances?

$3000 in 5 months, is $600 / month or about $150 extra a week.... for 5 months.

The only absolute way you could make this in such a short time, would be to get another job.

Get a serving job a few nights a week. A good weekend night could bring in your $150.

Good luck to you. It's gonna be kinda rough. I (personally) would wait. I like to spend money like water, when I'm on vacation, and the thought of 'sticking to a budget' and worry about every penny would ruin it for me.

True; goodness knows I say that often enough here myself. But I think that many of us were confused by the original (or second) thread a few months ago, and expressed concern for the OP as well as concern that there was something potentially untoward about the motivation for posting at that time.

I am not intelligent enough to understand what is going on here, but combined with the original purchase of the 'vacation deal' I do think that there is a very cautionary tale wound up somewhere in these threads.

My contribution would be to consider any long term vacation purchase very carefully indeed. Buying DVC for instance can foster a feeling that one 'must' vacation every year, even when one is short the money for airfare, or tickets, or a rental car. (I can certainly attest to that - I just banked my DVC points into next year but am left with some orphan points which 'should' be used this year, but would cost at least $1,000 out of pocket. Better to let those points disappear or to do something else with them then for me to use them because I feel that I am obligated to do so)

Whatever the OP's situation, I do hope that things work out for them. I would like to think that there is no ulterior motive, and that the caution expressed by several posters months ago was indeed prudent. Hopefully others considering such a 'deal' may learn something from these threads. :)

Nah, if he has a lot of money in the markets, its easy to turn around $3k in a few months in the markets cooperate - even in a few days if you have enough in and you make the right bets. But the market has to cooperate, you have to have enough in, and you have to be willing to realize gains. The first you have little control over - sure things in the market are non-existent unless you are inside trading - which is illegal. Everyone has the same access to information in theory, so stocks tend to be valued pretty accurately - barring something like what happened last fall. The second we have no idea about. The third he seems unwilling to do - willing to keep riding his investments up rather than sell them to realize the gains and pay for the trip.

Not to hijack the thread but I have a similiar problem. See I need desperately to buy a diamond encrusted Tiara for my cat. Its going to cost $45,000 and I am thinking if I cut back on my private limo rides to the grocery store I might be able to raise the money in about two weeks. Anyone else have other saving ideas?? FYI I have already cut down my staff of 10 to 8....I let go of two of the gardeners, I still have three. :rotfl:

You've made some HUGE sacrifices! I for one can not give up my gardeners...:rotfl2:

Okay I have picked up a couple of easy jobs.
Check on the neighbors house while they are not here $50/month and plow snow on their driveway $100 per plow.

Disney fund:

$50/month=$250 by february

$100/plow, should plow 6 times= $600

total $850.

I need another$2150. Wife is to emberassed to have a garage sale in this neighborhood and kids won't sell anything. Keep the ideas coming.

:confused3 What kind of a neighborhood do you live in? I've seen garage sales in all kinds of neighborhoods from those with $70,000 homes to those with $1,000,000+ homes.

Clip coupons and sell your plasma. And, of course, you can always have last year's Harry Winston reset. Last year is so last year. That might save you on the stones.

Sweetheart, you've got to start charging the pool boy rent for his apartment in the pool house. I don't care how good he looks in his Speedo when he's cleaning the pool! These are tough times and Kitty needs her bling. :rotfl:

Actually, with all the "I got scammed" threads I've read here, I wouldn't put it past someone looking to make some "quick" money to take the OP's advice. Thanks for clarifying the advertising policy, but how does anyone know the OP isn't a majority stockholder?
