Canon S2

WOW! I have a friend at work, whose wife is having their first baby in June, and he has his eye on this camera. I will be sure to let him know!!!
Thanks!!! :thumbsup2

TC :cool1:

I just checked dell's site. I only see the price of $399.00. Will you be asked the coupon codes on the check out page????

Ok, I just bought the A610 last month but I can't stop thinking about the S2 because of the IS and 12x zoom and after seeing this post I think I've given in...it's time for my Kodak with the 10x zoom and no IS to take a hike!! Anyway, I entered the first one and applied it and the discount of $79.80 was deducted. Now do I go back into that same coupon field and enter the $35 off coupon? That's what I'm doing but it won't apply the discount...help!!

I just tried it again and I got a pop-up saying the $35 coupon had already been used - guess it's just a one time use code. Oh well!! :sad1:

I just purchased the Canon S2 IS (Yes after much debate I decided to get this one & not wait for the S3)... from Dell

$399.00
-20% off Coupon (7?LVR1LS2064G)
-$35 off Coupon (QFTPZQNBRH9TD)
-Free Shipping
$284.20

Don't forget to go through Mypoints... today it listed 3pts for every dollar spent (852 pts) - I think the norm is 2pts...

Good luck!

Thanks!

From your research can you tell me what is new about the S3 IS?

ETA: Are the codes still good to use? I think there's a 6 between the L and V which will work yet the $35 off code doesn't work? Help?!?!? :teeth: Thanks!

The main thing is ISO800 capability, cleaner hgh-ISO noise (supposedly, at least from the demo I've seen, S3 ISO800 is cleaner than S2 ISO400)

The secondary (but important to me), the colour is in gun metal rather than silver.

However, at $284 shipped? Just buy it!

I've been trying to get the S2 for the last few days since seeing the 20% off and $35 codes floating around. It looks like the $35 codes are unique and can only be used once. Thanks to a kind DIS member from the budget board I just got a $35 code PM'd to me a few minutes ago. The only thing that kind of stinks is that Dell is showing a 3-5 week delivery now and I was hoping to get it before we leave on the 29th. Oh well, I'll have my A610 that I bought last month but I really wanted that 12x zoom for the parks. :(

I got the codes from flamingoworld.com
I think there is a limit to the # of times the code can be used.. I remember seeing disclosures like good for 1000 uses....

A similar deal posted the other day didn't work for me either, I saw these today & figured I'd give it a try.. sure enough it worked... Hope you find a combination that works for you!

Did you get charged sales tax? I had it in my shopping cart, went through the whole process of setting up an account, entered my cc info and then I noticed the total was $300 with tax added so I canceled out of it. It doesn't seem like such a good deal now that it's $300 and knowing I have to wait 3-5 weeks for the camera. I'm guessing in the next month or so the other online websites are likely to continue to come down on their pricing - Amazon currently has it at $339, no tax, free shipping and it ships in 2-3 days. If I decide to pass on it for now I'll definitely give the coupon code to someone else here on the Disboards who wants it.

i am about to get the s2 after reading up on some reviews and here. i would like to know where the cheapest place is in canada to order it. also is it worth to wait for the s3 and pay the extra money.

tks a bunch

also in about 1 week ill be asking you guys about video cameras sony or canon :confused3 :stir:

The cheapest so far in Canada is about CAD$550 plus taxes for the S2 IS. If you order it from the US, including shipping and duties, you'll be paying only about CAD$500 total (as opposed to CAD$635)

Canon vs Sony camcorder? I hate Sony but they still make the best camcorder on the market (for consumer level).

Is the Canon S2 IS too heavy to carry around the parks all day. I'm new to all this so please bear with me. I've only had one digital camera and am looking to get a new one....I want one with a higher zoom. I hear wonderful things about the Canon S2 IS on here. I'm also looking at the Kodak Easy Share Z740 because it seems more "user friendly" for someone not overly technical and it seems lighter too. I also need a good camera for my job as I'm a real estate agent. Any advice....I would like to not go over $400. Thanks...I appreciate it.

I carry my S2-IS with me all day every time I am in a park (we average 1 day week, and lately much more!). It has become an appendage! I pretty much wear it around my neck at all times.

In fact it is really never far from my side when I am at home (we have dogs, cats and 3 week old kittens so there is always something to photograph).

Prior to this camera I had a smaller Digital and liked the fact that I could put it in a pocket, and I was kind of concerned about the larger camera, but I have gotten used to it. I don't really notice it to be heavy, just "bulkier" than my previous.

I left it at home one day last week when we had guests visitng and we were going to SW - and I felt like I was missing an vital body part! Luckily I did have my video camera and my DSis had her camera, so the trip was not a total loss!

I LOVE my S2. It's not too heavy and it takes great pix. To see some sample photos, look at *my Disney gallery*.

That said, I'm a photographer and know how to use it. My wife likes simple cameras, and she isn't as thrilled about this camera. If you're willing to put a few minutes into learning how it works, it will be great for you. If you want a point and click, my personal suggestion is to find something else.

My 2 cents.

Ken

i was playing around with one in the store and i was shocked how much lighter than my slr it is...although they claim it weighs about a lb in some lit. i have seen( weight of slr/lens cause me to leave it in the room more often than not) amazon has a fairly cheap case with a shoulder strap also.

elasticgirlfan...you sound just like me..iwas deciding between those and panasonic lumix dmcfz7 but think i'm going with the canon...if you haven't seen them, http://www.steves-digicams.com has detailed reviews for them. the other 2 seemed heavier / clumsier to me and someone here made (imo) a good point that they'll have more shake if they don't feel good in your hands

If you own a S2 IS, where did you buy it? I'm looking for a reputable place! Unfortunately, I'm a worry wart, since I've had 2 other digicams crash on me before, and I had to return them. So, I would like to find a decent place, in case that were to happen again!

I found the Digital Megastore online and they had fantastic reviews. I called them and got great service. They did make an error on the memory card, but offered to send me the right card even if it cost more than the one they billed me for! They were all about taking ownership of the problem and making it right.

So far I'm a big fan...

Good luck,

Ken
