Canon 400D (Rebel Xti, Kiss X)

Thank you for sharing your photos with us. I am so glad you are enjoying your new camera. I look forward to see many more of your shots.

:goodvibes

Thanks figment52. I have to say it is quite beautiful there, especially when you come from a prairie city like we do. It gives you a whole different appreciation of the mountains when they aren't always part of the background.

he blew up the stadium so what's the big deal if it's a cannon vs canon( just kidding op)

:thumbsup2 nice shots , look forward to seeing more

So which is better to shoot with - a canon or a cannon? And which blows up stadiums better - canons or cannons?

;)

Kit lens sufficing :rotfl: That's a good one :lmao: It might for a while until the lens bug bites.
Hey, I've got a decent pile of lenses here and still mount the kit lens sometimes. Of course, it's not a Canon. :rotfl2: Mainly I use it when my 28-75mm F2.8 isn't wide enough.

Oh, and if you don't mind can I download your sensor chart? That makes explaining everything very easy.
You're welcome to grab a copy of it, just please don't put it up on another site or claim it's your own (obviously). :) It does still have the watermark in the corner so it'd take some work to do that anyway. But I don't mind if anyone takes a copy of any of my photos to store on their PC.

so glad to see the xt counts here, i was feeling so discriminated against(;) :lmao: )
nice photos all,,,i need to get my behind out of the house and take some photos

You might want to post your pictures over at this thread - specifically for XTi cameras
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1507622

Why? Why can't I start my own thread showing off my pictures as I seek help for my photography? Oh...that's right - I can.

**Edited to add: I had a couple of pms apologizing for some comments on here. Either they have been deleted or I just don't get where I am supposed to be offended! Trust me guys and gals - I don't get offended easily and I can pretty much take whatever is dished out. I put my pictures here because some of the posters on this board are AWESOME at photography and have really inspired me and I want their comments/criticism and help. It is all in fun and I am not going to let any of it "ruffle my feathers".

Sorry about the canon/cannon mix up! LOL OH...and surely you guys know I meant he blew up the PIC not the actual stadium! LOL You guys are crazy!

 Wasn't saying you couldn't start your own thread to post your own pictures, was just trying to be nice and let you know you might want to post them on the other thread as well. Sorry for trying to be helpful.

thanks again for all of your advice with the camera decision i'm trying to make :goodvibes

i'm going to go out this weekend and "hold" the XTi and any others they have.
i was looking at b&h online and they seem to have some good deals on the kit..it comes with a lens and a memory card for around $700.00

is it better to buy in a brick and mortar store?

Well that might have provided some unique photo opps if he did :)

Some online places are just fine. B&H, Adorama, Buydig, and Beach Camera are all reputable. The B&H bundles are probably a good deal, but be aware that memory is very cheap these days, so if that is the only extra, be sure it is worth it.

Ok...:scared: the internet is a HARD place to communicate! I was just being sarcastic...and obviously read "into" your post because of the pms I got. So sorry.... Please forgive me here...I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. I thought maybe you were being a smarty pants...:flower3:

I buy most of my stuff at B&H but do go to the local shop for some things. IF the local gives you really good service and a decent price, I would go with them.

As for the G9 versus a dSLR, it depends what you are planning to do with it and how much you want to cart around. I gave my husband the G6 a few years ago - picked it so he would have a compact when he goes off mountain biking but it still shot in RAW so I could make better use of his photos (they took RAW away from the G7 - dumb decision!!). For his use, it is perfect. I have even left my dSLR (1DsMkII) home on some trips and relied on his camera and my little Canon SD700IS for underwater photos.

Yes, a dSLR is great for some things but it comes with a lot of extras you'll decide you have to own and then carry around with you. The G9 looks like a really nice camera and you can do movies with it too if that interests you.

I saw that Canon released the G9 yesterday. It's 12 mp and has the ability to shoot RAW. I was planning on purchasing the XTi but it's only a 10mp camera.
The G9 won't be available for purchase until October (if I'm reading correctly) and it appears that the price will be reasonable.

Can anyone help me decided what the pros and cons of purchasing one over the other would be?

Thanks for your input!

Try this site. dpreview ( earning my ears so I can't post the full link) its a great place to see reviews on lots of cameras. I just checked and the G9 was not listed at this time, but should be soon. You can see the XTi ( and many others) there with Pros and cons sample pics etc. Hope this helps.

I've been lurking here for a while trying to figure out which way to go for my move up from my Kodak Easyshare! I've been really happy with the photos it takes in bright outdoor conditions, but I've been feeling the need to take some great fireworks and night shots when we return to the World in 29 days! :cool1: Thanks to everyone on this board, I decided to purchase the Canon Rebel XTi (I've taken about 100 photos so far and I've only had it for 4 hours!). So, while the battery's charging, I thought I'd post here.

I know as I get use to it, I'll be asking your advise!

did you get a tripod? For night and fireworks shots it will really really help a lot. And congrats on the new camera, you'll be very pleased with it I am sure.
