Canon XTi, 28-135mm IS lens, focal length at 135mm; f5.6, 1/250, ISO200, WB on auto, AV mode (the last one may have been different - can't get the details as it was a crop from one of the other photos)

Here's one of my dog wearing her Disney bandana :)

My apologies to everyone here:guilty: I didn't see that someone had already started an XTi thread, and I went and started a new one. It has fallen down the forum, and I will let it go and participate here, if that's ok? :flower3: I just returned from a trip to the mountains in Virginia to visit my Grandmother. It is usually just beautiful down there. Not so much this trip. They have had a lot of dry weather, and some of the trees and flowers are looking quite glim. I did manage to get a few cool shots, all with the kit lens, most with basic zone settings, or program mode.

I tried to play with the aperture on these...they're both "ok", but I'm open to find out who likes the lighter one, and who likes the darker one, and why? The artfulness of photography is what I constantly question myself on. Would love some input!:goodvibes

/IMG]/IMG]I think I like the lighter one, because it shows more detail, but is it too bright?

Hi Shannon,

I understand you completely when you say you question yourself, I do that all the time! So, remember that this is only my rather un-experienced opinion I'm giving - I prefer the lighter one, but perhaps it's just a tad too bright. I'd try to tone it down just a smidge.

Do you have photoshop or elements? I've played with adding spotlights on flowers that were a little on the dark side - adds a very different effect to the whole picture!

I prefer the darker one, but it was a little too dark. A super quick adjustment and I think it looks great.

How about just a Rebel? No XT no XTi?

I just cant see upgrading at this point.

Beautiful pictures everyone.
dburg30- Very cool shot of the moon. I tried to take one this weekend but only have the kit lens, so it was pretty tiny, and blurry when I cropped it. Some day I'll have more lenses.
Here's a few I took in Maine this weekend.

The kids jumping were done on sports mode, and the pier I think was program mode with Iso 800.
This flower I took a few weeks ago on macro mode. I tried multiple different settings first, and the auto mode came out best. Gotta keep reading and learning.

Thanks :goodvibes Yep it was one of the first shots I took with my Bigma (the sigma 50-500 mammoth). I had looked at some I tried even with the 28-135 but of course NO comparison to that one.
/sigh, one of these days I'm going to have a scope and imaging setup.. But talk about cha-ching..

I saw that Canon released the G9 yesterday. It's 12 mp and has the ability to shoot RAW. I was planning on purchasing the XTi but it's only a 10mp camera.
The G9 won't be available for purchase until October (if I'm reading correctly) and it appears that the price will be reasonable.

Can anyone help me decided what the pros and cons of purchasing one over the other would be?

Thanks for your input!

I don't know anything about the G9 but I would highly recommend AGAINST making your decision based solely on pixel count (in fact, anything around 6 MP is probably more than adequate for most people). Unless you routinely make huge prints (like 16x20) you're not going to notice a difference. Also, if the sensor size of the G9 is smaller than the XTi the pictures are going to look worse at the highly pixel number.

Again, I know nothing about the G9 but I am a very happy XT owner. Just remember that more pixels equaling a "better" camera is a myth.

Simply due to sensor size a dSLR will always produce better pictures (if used properly) and will always have the capability for much less noise.

If cost and size aren't a problem, the xti wins.

I've seen some samples from the G9, it's all kinds of noisy above ISO 400.
