wow this thread is so much fun! I'm having a candy buffet for my 21st birthday party on June 6th, it's a bit more difficult in England though, we don't have as many outlet shops as you have in america!

I've ordered most of my sweets online, I found a website selling american candy so I'm having a lot of that :-D And I've ordered Mountain Dew, we don't get it here and I love it soooo much!

I'm so excited! I've been looing on hostesswiththemostess.com, they have a candyland birthday party on there that gave me lots of ideas.

Waht a wonderful idea for a borthday party! I wish that this idea had been aorund when we had our wedding 6 years ago!

To the OP - do you have any pictures? I did a candy buffet for DD's 11 birthday last month. Her theme was "Movie Night". I'll post a couple of pictures when I get home (no access at work.) The colors were red and black.

We only had 8 girls - so didn't need loads of candy. I also got lucky and was at Martin's (grocery store) the Sunday after Valentines' - and they had their bulk candy 90% off! I went crazy! We had red hots, suckers, chocolates, etc. etc. I also got a bunch of stuff at the Dollar Tree - like ring pops, marshmallow braids, pixie sticks, etc.

The girls (and their Moms) LOVED the "candy buffet"! They all thought it was very cool!

I look forward to your picture posts! My DS party is the 1st Saturday in June and his school colors are red and black so the candy that you found and dispaly you made is of great interest to me! :thumbsup2

I just did my candy buffet for a baby shower this past weekend. It turned out beyond awesome and I got the idea from this thread. THank you so much! I loved looking at all the pictures everyone posted and coming up with ideas so here is mine.

This is so pretty...i love this idea for a sweet sixteen party.

Here is a pic from the Disboards Girls Only Divas Trip this year.. We did a candy buffet.

Each girl brought a little candy and then took home a bunch! It was so much fun:goodvibes

For mine.. i bought lime green peanut m&m's{ since that's the disboard color, lime green} i put some in a little clear bag with a small thing of tinkerbell glitter gloss that i found at target on the aisle with party favors. Then sealed it up and with strong clear packing tape i taped on a event themed pic i printed from my computer..they came out sooo cute!

You can mix candy and little favors for an added surprise.:goodvibes

That banner is amazing!!! I'm going to try and make one myself. It's so exciting, everywhere I go I'm looking for sweets and containers! I should really be in the library, but this is way more important! :rotfl:

Thanks everyone for sharing! I would love to do a candy buffet for Christmas Eve! I am looking for ideas!:rotfl:

I want to thank the person that first brought this lovely idea to light. I used this for my daughters wedding. I used mostly champaigne flutes, margarita glasses, and martinee glasses. I also used a couple of gold fish bowls, one salad bowl, two vases, and one cake stand.

Candies
MM's Red, Black, White, Silver
Jelly Bellies flavors - birthday cake, french vanilla, coconut, pomegranete, strawberry jam, rootbeer.
Blackberry and Raspberry jellies
red and black licorice pinwheels
assorted red,black,white licorice mix
green sour straws
tootsie pops
gourmet lollies
skittles gum
peppermint patties
gummies
jaw breakers (white)
fruit shaped bubble gum
popcorn balls
laffy taffy sticks

I received complements all night and everyone remarked that they had never seen one before. But I must admit I could not have done it had I not seen it here on the Dis.

Here is a picture of the candy bar I made for her wedding that I uploaded to snapfish.com

I have a friend who is a Wedding/Event Planner and she has done Candy Buffets for events. She would be impressed! :thumbsup2

BTW, you can check her out at www.ksherrieco.com for some wonderful party planning inspirations. :goodvibes

Bumping this up for more ideas for those of us with graduation parties this year.

All of your ideas and pics look great...but are you just putting plasticware spoons to "serve" with or some kind of nice utensils-- guess this would apply to any unwrapped candy in serving dishes, but I think I'd be skeptical about too many unwrapped candies. I love the look of the layered colors of m & M's or similar, but once people get their hands/spoons into it..oops there goes the look LOL!!!!

OK. So how much candy should I plan on? I expect maybe 50 people? I won't know yet until I get RSVPs. Many are family. So not all will be kids. Should I get 1 or 2 of each item per person?

So far I have from Oriental Trading:
Graduation fortune cookies
Gold wrapped chocolate coins with graduation hat embossed
Blue/white mints with graduation hat design (think those red/white candies you get at restaurants after meals)
sweet tarts that are wrapped to look like diplomas

So far I got about 100 of each.

I also an slowly picking up bags of single colored m&ms from Michaels with the 40% off coupon.

I am now going to order from the candy supplier posted above that sells by color. I am doing a blue/gold theme for the school colors. but I am not sure how much of that stuff to order?

I got blue and gold lunch bag type things for the containers. I hope that is ok. I also got some personalized labels from Oriental Trading that say "Thank you / Name / Class of 2010" to seal the bags when they are full.

So, how much should I order?

For the unwrapped candy, I used some small gravy ladles, spoons and tongs to pick up the candy with.

Our party was outside in the summer so I stayed away from all forms of chocolate. Instead, I went with some of my DD's favorites. Here are some pictures.

I am in the middle of planning a candy buffet for DS's graduation party on 5/29. I wanted it to be a little more "masculine" since these seem to be done most often for girls.

Our colors are purple and gold/yellow. So far, I purchased some gold/yellow bucket type containers from Flower Factory. They are solid so I'm not going to worry about color coordinating the candies. I'm worried that they are a little bigger than I'd like them to be though. I'm thinking of stuffing the bottoms with purple tissue paper to avoid spending a FORTUNE on candy to fill them.

I, too, am trying to stay away from too much chocolate as the party will be outside but the table will be in the shade. So far, I have Laffy Taffy and a couple other things. I'm thinking about getting some M&Ms. I bought some scoop type servers from Oriental Trading for any unwrapped candy that I use.

I hope this thread gets a lot of ideas and responses! I need all the help I can get!
