CANDY BUFFET for my DD graduation party I NEED HELP..Please

If you go to the Disneyland side under "trip reports" look up the recent Diva one. They have quite a few photos of the buffet. In fact, that was the very first time I had even heard of it. It looked delicious!

I'm doing this for my DS's graduation party in June, as well. I've been buying containers from Micheal's and ACMoore with the 40% off coupons, and at the thrift stores for over a year now! I've started collecting candy in the past month or so. Our invitation list is over 300 so I need ALOT! School colors are green and gold, and I do have some green & yellow items, but I am not solely concentrating on those colors.
I hope I can find this thread after the party so I can post photos!

you will save alot of money if you don't care about the colors but honestly if you can get her school colors it would look pretty cool.

I'd check prices at chinese trading company, your local wholesale club (bjs costco) your weekly sunday paper for sales. You can also order custom m&m's and look for a penny candy shop you should be able to find older style swizzle sticks or you could just go for twizzlers they look nice when all put together in a glass jar.

OK, my son is graduating this spring as well and I'm trying to figure out food options Although these candy buffets looks very pretty all set up, I find myself shaking my head at the idea.

Do adults REALLY get a plate and load up on candy to eat???

I guess I'm not really getting the point of this. Is it just for looks perhaps?

I can see it being something for a younger child's birthday where each child can fill a goody bag, but for graduation with adults attending??

I can't be the only one not getting the concept, am I? :)

We had an Open House with lots and lots of high school kids attending and had little bags set out for them to fill and take with them like a party favor. I know some of the adults filled bags and took them with them too! We had very little candy left over at the end, so it was a huge hit!

I don't think they sit there eating it all like a buffet dinner. They fill party bags to go. :thumbsup2 Who doesn't like a fun party favor?

don't know if this was asked before but what do you think of having a candy buffet for a boy, my son will be graduating high school and we will be having his party in July. I think its a great idea but do you think its too babyish??

I'm having one for my DS's HS graduation party on the 29th. I think kids of any age and gender love candy! I tried to do it a little more masculine. Instead of the "glamourous" glass containers, I am using some yellow, plastic, bucket type containers. His school colors are purple and yellow so I'll put the buckets on a table with a purple tablecloth.

Let me know what you decide to do! I'll try to post pictures after our party at the end of the month.

No, I don't think it's "babyish", nor do I think it's girly. I think teens would love to see a stash of candy piled up for them to dig in to. The beauty of a candy buffet is that it is easy to customize to fit a theme, color scheme, or just someone's favorite candies. I just did one at a 50th birthday party and it was a big hit. After seeing it, I had 2 people leave and say they were doing it for a graduation this June, and 1 doing it for a baby shower in July.

It's playful and a good conversation starter. Have fun with it!

thanks I was hoping it wasn't too babyish!! Now to have fun getting all the candy (hope not to eat it too, LOL!!)

I just ordered my candy from the Candy Warehouse. Here is what I got:

Gummi Baby Blue Sharks C101061 1 $15.00 Candy: 5LB Bag
Blue Raspberry Lollipops: PC40017BLUE 1 $15.00 5LB Bag
Blue Striped Blueberry C101031 1 $12.00 Hard Candy Sticks: 80CTBox
Yellow Lemon Gummy Bears: ACG50110 1 $15.00 5LB Bag
Yellow Lemon Lollipops: PC40017YELLOW 1 $15.00 5LB Bag
Hard Candy Sticks: QCYCS80CT 1 $12.00 Flavor = Lemon 80CT Box
Subtotal 84.00
Shipping 22.90
Tax 0.00Total 106.90

Her school colors are blue and yellow. Basically I got 2 packs of gummies (one blue one yellow), 2 packs of regular lollipops (one blue one yellow) and 2 packs of the hard candy sticks (one blue and one yellow).

I decided against the big lollipops because I figured no one needs that much lollipop!! Plus the little lollipops were cheaper.

I have some other candy too. I bought several bags of hershey almond kisses - those come in a gold wrapper. I also got blue starlight mints with a graduation cap on them from oriental trading company. From there I also got graduation fortune cookies and sweettart rolls that look like diplomas.

I'll keep my eye out for more blue or yellow candy at the stores. I'm going to start filling containers or estimating sizes to make sure it looks like enough.

I'm doing this for my DD's Graduation party on Memorial Day - I'm not very creative, but so far its coming together nicely. I can't wait to see it all set up - I have the dishes, just need the candy.

No, you are not alone! I too am planning my son's party for June 12th and this is not what I had in mind. I could see maybe having some candy, but with a lot of small children planning to be in attendance, this would be a disaster. I guess to each his own.:confused3

I think the intention is that you set it out at the end of the party so that the high school grads (and others) can make their own treat bags to take home as favors.

If I were having a lot of little kids, I wouldn't have it sitting out the whole party! We don't need little kids on a sugar high the whole time!

I had one for my oldest's HS graduation in 2008. It was a big hit. We didn't have many little kids, so I had the table set up the whole time. While I did have treat bags with a poem attached for the kids to fill, not many did. Mainly because they were snacking on the candy the whole time. A couple of them did have their pockets stuffed with candy. As long as there wasn't much left, I didn't care how they carried it out of the house.

I, as an adult, would load up on candy! Yummy! This looks like a fun idea. One of my favorite presents ever was when my friend bought a whole bunch of candy and put it in a nicely decorated bags and boxes. So, I would LOVE this at a party plus it is very eye-appealing.
