I read an article recently about doing a "Candy Around the World" game instead of drinking around the world at EPCOT. Sounds like fun, as we're not big drinkers, and have kids with us on the trip, and they'll be able to participate!

Any suggestions for great candies to put on our list?

My kids love to get candy from around the world - and I teach a cultural geography class - so they like it when I bring them goodies from Epcot!

Some of our favorites:

Japan - mangosteen gummies, Pocky, and things that we can't identify based on the packaging!

Norway - Anna's cookies - especially the mint chocolate (I also discovered that our Ikea carries these too!), and Kex bars are similar to kit kats

Germany - packages of cookies and duplo chocolate bars

Canada - maple candies, smarties (similar to m&ms - but not quite), wonderbars

England - Aero bars (a favorite with my kids), chocolate flakes, curlywurly (I think that is what they are called - it's really thin chocolate with caramel) -and another - I think it's called Crunchie that is chocolate over honeycomb.

Can you still get the giant gummy bears? I've never actually seen them on any of my trips, so maybe they don't have them.

My favorites:

Mexico - Don't remember the name but it's round wafers and in-between them is caramel. Soooo good!

UK - I love the Mars bars, Aero bars, and Flakes!

Canada - They have this really great candy that tastes kind of like coffee? It's really great

Germany - I opt out of candy and grab a bag of caramel popcorn!

Japan - Pocky!

Have a great time! :thumbsup2

Japan has many good candies! In addition to the ones already mentioned, there is a Cola flavored hard candy that comes in a red bag. It tastes like Coke, and we love it! We bought a couple bags for our kids to share with their friends at home and it was a hit.

Both of my DDs and I did this on our last trip and we had a blast. We did more of a Chocolates Around the World. We would get suggestions from the different CMs at each of the countries which chocolate bar was their favorite. The CMs were more then happy to help us figure out which one to buy :goodvibes. The goal was we would buy 1 chocolate bar and then the girls and I would split it up between the 3 of us. We would then rate the bar from a scale of 1 Mickey head (did not like at all) to 5 Mickey heads (the best we have ever tasted). The chocolate bar that won, we would then buy 3 of them...one for each of us to enjoy at the end of our trip. We had a blast doing it and the girls have already decided that they want to do it again, but try other chocolates. BTW the winner was the Wonderbar in Canada .

Does every country have candy? USA and Italy? I wonder if I'd skip USA.

Yes every country does have candy, even in the German Pavilion, they had candy to sell that was not in Karmel Kutche. USA does indeed have candy but it is the typical candy bars that you will find in every grocery store across America (i.e. Snickers, Hershies, Milky Way). When we did our Chocolates Around the World, we skipped USA's chocolates since we already knew what they tasted like.

Wanted to add that Italy does have Chocolate but it was like a White Chocolate kind (not a big fan of white chocolate by itself so it got low ratings on our Mickey head scale). However, it was hard to find...I had to ask a CM if they had any and she pointed it out to us. They were so small we had to buy 3 so each of us could rate it.

Yes they are called curly and crunches. They are made by a brand called Cadbury =] (I live in the uk) didn't really look into the sweets in the uk there as we know them all but if they have them, I'd deff recommend malteasers, millkey bars, and anything made by galaxy. If it has galaxy on the pack go ahead and have one, you will NEVER be disappointed. Also, try some haribo if you don't have it in the us, you'd e surprised how the gunmies are different to yours.

I'll also add that there is a brand of chocolate called kinder (pretty sure they have it in Germany) that we have here too and anything you buy will be delicious also. the origional kinder bars are best (before that we only had kinder eggs with toys inside but I don't think Epcot have them)

Oh my goodness... Italy has amazing candy! They have a whole wall of chocolates that you can buy in packages or individually. I honestly don't know what different kinds because we always buy the same thing... The Baci chocolates. They are individually wrapped chocolates with hazelnuts in them. You can find them in the shop with all the wines.
