CANDLES? Do you use jars or tarts?

I've been a long time fan of Yankee Candle. I used to burn their jars till there was nothing left in them. But quite a few years ago, I started burning tarts instead. For some reason, the YC jars just didn't seem to have that strong smell anymore. Well, they did when I smelled them in the store but after getting them home and started burning them, it was a different story. It would smell good the first day but after that the strong smell really wasn't there anymore.

So now, I have been burning the tarts. Not just Yankee Candle either. I've bought the Better Home & Gardens ones from Walmart, the Febreeze ones, Glade ones, the kind you'd find in the country stores (they're more like wax crumbles).

I'd like to go back to burning jar candles again but I enjoy that strong smell throughout the house and I just don't seem to be getting that from jars anymore. Do you see a difference in jar candles over the last few years? Maybe it's just Yankee Candle, maybe it's other companies too. Or it could very well be me. LOL

What are your favorite brands of jar candles?

My favorite jar candles are Slatkin sold by Bath and Body Works. Yankee candles are okay, just not my favorite.

I actually use the scented oil in my tart warmers more often than I burn candles. Again, the Slatkin.

I do have a couple Scentsy warmers. I like the scents, but I think that they are the weakest smelling out of all of them.

I really like the Yankee Candles myself, but nowadays I usually just use the Better Homes and Gardens wax cubes.

I also love the wax cubes and warmers. Good scents and I can change the scent more often. The big glass jar candles lasted so long I would get burnt out on the scent and I NEVER finished an entire candle. Ever. They would sit in my cabinets half burnt for years. lol.
I have four warmers in my house: kitchen, living room, bathroom and laundry room. I currently have about 12 different scents to choose from. I also like that cubes are small and easy to store. :thumbsup2

Long time Yankee candle user.
I use tarts, votives and jars.................like the jars the best.
Every time I burn a tart, DD walks in and says it smells burnt  (and she is the one that introduced me to YC many years ago).

I have tried others and still prefer YC....although Kringle are good too (same family)

Same here with the Slatkin.

I use my Scentsy warmers, but I've stopped buying their scents.

I like the Better Homes ones or the Glade ones(they make my favorite scent, the Lavender Vanilla). I saw on Pinterest that you can use Downy Unstoppables in the burners and have done that too! It's just harder to clean.

I like Wallflowers as well. You can get most of the Slatkin scents in those.

I burn candles pretty much every day. I mostly do jars since thats what my boyfriend used to get from work but recently we started burning samplers because we have so many. I have a yc plug in in the bathroom that we use when company comes over or just in place of using some kind of spray. At least with those you can adjust how much scent you want in the room. I do love those Yankee Candle scents. My favorite is summer scoop or something like that which smells just like strawberry ice cream

I use the Scentsy warmers for everything. I have used others in the past but love my Scentsy!

I only buy candles from Bath and Body Works. They burn clean, the scent is strong but not overpowering and you end up with an almost empty jar when the candle is done.

I used to buy YC, but stopped about 6 or 7 years ago, once I discovered Bath and Body Works candles. YC burn a hole down the middle and you end up throwing 3/4 of the wax away, not a good thing when you pay $25 for a candle!

I burn a candle most days- my favorite ones come from Bath and Body Works; a few different company names. My favorites are Tiki Beach, Mahogany Teakwood, and Fresh Market Apple.

They're *very* heavily scented. When I want something light, I burn a candle from AC Moore. I'm enjoying their Lemon Splash and Sea Salt Coconut. They're cheaper candles so not as much scent, but just enough to enjoy without smelling waxy.

Just an fyi (not trying to change your mind, just info for other posters)--the "hole" that is burnt through jar candles can be taken care of by using an illumi lid. You can get them all over the place. I thought they were just for decoration but it is really to help keep the warm air in the jar so the candle melts evenly. It's amazing what a difference it makes!

I'm a Yankee Candle girl--I can never find a candle that smells as long as they do. In fact, I almost bought a candle the other day and my sister said "you told me to remind you never to buy any other candle than YC because you never like the way they smell." Then again, I don't like strong scents. I only like scents that are subtle (fluffy towels, clean cotton, lilac, spring rain, etc.) The strong scents give me headaches and make me nauseas. I do use the Better Homes wax cubes in my plug ins often. I love being able to trade them out easily.

I burn actual jar candles probably 3-4 days a week. Having lit candles around calms me and is a stress reliever for me.

Their "special" lid you "have to" buy never did anything for my candles. It was a waste of money, both the lid and the candles.

You won't change my mind. I won't ever buy another Yankee Candle. :)

My Yankee candle jars always burn evenly and all the way down.....of course, I usually have a shade on them.
If you are satisfied, the will take them back.

I started out using only Yankee Candle jars, went to tarts, then stopped using Yankee Candle as the scent didn't seem as strong and didn't last as long. Tried Scentsy, didn't care for the scents, most were either too strong, or too weak. Tried Better Homes and Gardens, and that's all I use now. I think I may try the scented oils as other posters have suggested.

In regards to the bolded--those lids are sold at many places and used on any candle that is in that style of jar. It is not "Yankee Candle's" jar/lid, it is the way the jar is shaped. Any candle by any brand that is in that style of jar will burn that way.

I love Yankee Candle, but I too have noticed that the scents aren't as strong as they were in the past, which is annoying considering how much the darn things cost, LOL. But I still continue to buy them because the still smell soooo good! I use their wax tarts, too.

I prefer tumblers to jars because I think the wider mouth lets more scent come through and they burn evenly without the need of those jar covers. But I do get jars a lot of the time simply because they're on sale. The jar thingies work wonders, they give an even burn and the inside of your jar doesn't turn all black with soot. I've never had a problem with them not working, at least not with Yankee candles. Haven't tried them with any other brand.

I use Bath & Body Works Wallflowers, but for some reason those can be hit or miss. Some of them I can smell for days all the way from the other end of the house, others I plug in and can't smell at all unless I'm right next to it.

Better Homes and Gardens wax cubes smell surprisingly good for the price, I have quite a few of those too. But sometimes the smell can be a bit TOO strong and still tends to have an "artificial" undertone that Yankee or Slatkin doesn't have, IMO.

I have a serious candle obsession and usually burn jars. My favorite brand is Circle E which are made in Fredericksburg, TX. We have a two story house and I can burn the candle in the living room downstairs and it will permeate all the way upstairs. They also do an excellent job of burning evenly. My favorite fragrances are Wine and Roses, Bird of Paradise, Hill Country Bluebonnets, Leather, and Creamy Cinnamon Vanilla. I've never really gotten into burning tarts.

I burn both, I use yankee candle ( sometimes glade) everyday with the lids and they always burn even and all the way done and if there is wax left I use that in as tarts so no wax goes to waste. I always stock up during the semi annual sales and I never have to pay full price. I always get the take 15 or 20 off 40 coupons also and that is a good deal.
