Looks like we will be able to see Candlelight Processional with Neil Patrick Harris narrating on 12/1 and I'm freaking out!! Is there any prayer of getting standby to one of the shows...if so, which one...or should I bite the bullet and book at CP dining pkg? It's our arrival day and we probably won't step foot in the park until 4:30pm. We'd prefer to see the latest show. We were hoping to just do counter serve this trip, but seeing NPH would make it worth the splurge.

If you're willing to get in line when you arrive and wait it out, you MIGHT get in to the latest show. If you weren't planning on a park that day, and this is just extra, I would go for it. Personally, I wouldn't do a CP pkg for an arrival day. Just too many things could happen to make you miss that ADR and be hit with the non-cancellation fee.

Having never been to CP during a sought-after narrator...people just line up for hours in hopes of getting in to ANY of the shows with him?

Last year I made it into the 2nd show standby and arrived at Epcot about 5:15 (however long it took to get there from work), but if I remember correctly I was close to the cut off.
I also believe I could have made it in for the 3rd show. Crowds drastically decrease as the night goes on.

As long as you know you'll be able to make it to the ADR, book the package. It will be much more pleasant than dealing with the stress of waiting and hoping. Even with a package, make sure to get in line early.

For NPH, there will be people getting in line when WS opens. For what it's worth, I just checked to see what might be available for a CP pkg on Dec 1. There wasn't anything for a party of 2 after 4:00 at any of the CP restaurants.

Yeah, I already checked the ADR's for that evening. It's not the end of the world if we don't get in. Will just find a spot close enough to hear. It's a last minute trip so no stressing of we miss stuff.

He's a phenomenal narrator. Definitely do a dining package so you are guaranteed a seat. We tried to do standby a couple years, and the wait at our arrival time was so long and we didn't have the stamina to wait it out in the heat. One year, we were in the right place at the right time and got pixie dusted VIP seats in a Magical Moment! It was amazing! And he did such a fantastic job! ! And we were so close!

The standby lines for him are nutty!!! If you really don't mind standing in that line for hours on end, sure, why not. Worst case scenario would be that you watch and listen from the standby line!
Or, you can head over to Liberty Inn, grab a bite to eat and then sit and listen to the show. You won't be able to see much over there, but the sound is fine! When there is a really popular narrator, NPH, Whoopi, the lines outside the back of the theater can be 4 or 5 people deep!! You're much better off over by the restaurant.

Just thought of one other thing, there is a cm at the end of the standby. That cm will give you an estimate of which show you might get into. I remember seeing the standby line at Germany!

In the event I can snag a CP dinner pkg, do we pick which show we want to do? Or are we assigned?

You pick, but so does everyone else, so the slots may all be gone for the later show by the time you might snag one. The one thing you have going for you is any pkg you may be able to get after your 4:30 arrival time would almost have to be for that late show, because anyone eating at that late hour may not finish in time for the 6:15 show.

When I booked our CP dinner package for NPH we were assigned the 5pm show. I did not get to choose. Maybe because we are eating lunch instead of dinner, so they gave us the early show?

I saw him last year. He was great. I would do the CP dinner package. I did and felt it was worth it. I ate my dinner and then got right in the dining package line afterwards.

Only a handful of standby folks were let in when I saw him on the last show of the evening.

You are assigned a show based on your reservation times.

Dinner gets the later shows, I do believe.

When these first came out THIS year, people who called to book were able to choose which show they wanted no matter when they were dining. Those who were making the ADR online said they had to refresh the page to get a different show if they didn't want the one that was "assigned" by the computer.

If you call and the CM doesn't ask what show you want, and assigns you one you don't want, I would ask for the show you do want.

We've seen NPH twice for CP~ amazing! I'm a huge fan, so we booked the package to get guaranteed seating and we felt it was definitely worth it! We lined up early as well and got wonderful seats both times. (Our meals were great as well! And even sat close by him and his family for lunch!) If packages are sold out, keep trying~ there are usually cancellations. We snagged one for a last minute trip the first time we saw him!
One thing to possibly keep in mind for this year is that there are no more Osborne Lights at DHS~ so I'm thinking that the crowds that would typically be there at this time of year will now possibly overflow into Epcot. That may have an impact on the standby lines? (Maybe...)
It's definitely worth the investment of time if you really want to see the show with him. Best wishes!

We booked lunch for an NPH show and we were given the 6:45 show. We did not get to pick.

I'm going the first too, but I don't want to use two dining credits for it as I have all my ADRs planned out. I might try standby, if not, maybe I can hear him from Liberty Inn.
