Cancun trade - resort ideas

We are thinking about a trade to Cancun for our 20th wedding anniversary in 2005. Has anyone ever traded to Cancun? If so, what resort do you suggest? We are thinking about a 2 week stay. We would like a place right on the beach with a varirty of activities to do (our the 15 yo son and maybe his friend will be with us). Any suggestions are appreciated!

   [/list=1] I would not add VCI to that list for an even trade but would stay there if you can save some points. The Royals are top notch and you're chances of getting one are pretty good. 2 weeks together may be tough though. Some 20th with the teen along, LOL. We did Cancun for our 20th as well but left the kids behind. We stayed at VCI and loved it but didn't give up 270 DVC to do so. Also look for a direct exchange.

We stayed at the Royal Caribbean last Christmas. We rented our pts out and rented from a Royal owner on TUG. We made out ahead of the game financially. If I were to go again I would like to stay at Royal Sands. It is the newest Royal and is gorgeous.

I agree with the previous poster about renting points and renting directly from an owner. We own 2 weeks at the Royal Caribbean and 1 week at the Royal Mayan. I prefer any of the Tri-Royals to the Sands. The Sands is newer, but in my opinion a little more "sterile". The Tri-Royals give you the advantage of being able to use any of the facilities at all 3 without leaving the premises. My other suggestion would be to try to get one of the higher floors (8 or above) as some of the lower floors have obstructed views. Also, building H at the Mayan is lagoon view rather than ocean/pool view.
