My DH is currently Active Duty Army stationed in Korea, he was scheduled to come home March 2nd and we were supposed to be at BWV 5th-10th now it looks as if he may not be able to come home :guilty: I know that you are only allowed to change reservations 30 days in advance but we didn't know about this situation til a couple days ago, and we are still not sure that he is not going to be able to come home, I was just wondering if anyone else had a similiar last minute situation and how understanding disney was about it, also I was hoping to downgrade from a 1bdrm to a studio so we can stay a few more days, has anyone ever done this? Thanks in advance for all your help! Cassie

Regarding changing to smaller accommodations, pending availability you can do that even without any special exceptions from DVC. When you cancel on short notice, the points go into Holding. Basically this means that you can only use them toward a trip booked 60 days before checkin, and they must be used before the end of the Use Year. Well, you're less than 60 days before the end of the UY now, and obviously your UY won't end before the points are used.

Before you cancel anything, just ask if there are any studio rooms available for the dates you have targeted.

Regarding exceptions, DVC has gotten a good reputation lately for taking extenuating circumstances into consideration. There has long been talk of an undocumented "one-time rules exception" granted to members who really get into a pinch. Perhaps they would let you use your one mulligan if necessary. Can't hurt to ask. But don't necessarily expect to get the same treatment every time these unfortunate circumstances occur.

Call Disney and tell them everything. I am sure they will acommodate as best as they can! Good luck.

casndan,

Just call Disney and explain about your DH extended tour of duty - I beleive they will accommadate you regarding your points - They may ask for a copy of official orders(prolonging the tour of duty) - My nephew was in Iraq for 16months before he came home - I had to move a ressie around for him a few times although never within 30 days.

God Bless Your DH!

Sue

You may first want to talk to disney about the possibility of canceling without penality due to your particular situation. They may just let it go and you can save the points.
If you change your reservation from the 1 bd. to studio the difference in points may also be a problem for the same 31 day notice .
