Has anyone ever cancelled a Delta ticket? Im 60days from flying and DH has backed out. Any chance I can have this ticket to be used for next year? Would it need to be in his name? I know - call the airlines

They changed the rules recently and not for the good of the consumer. I'm not sure what they did though.

when I canceled 2 delta tickets last December....I had a $100 penalty on each ticket. The balance could be used as credit on a future purchase. In my case, I paid $128 for each ticket so I got $28 in credit and lost $100 on each :(
delta express would have been only $50 on penalties.
I think I canceled them about 4 weeks prior.
I don't know if its different now

I just purchased Delta tickets and at the fine print read $100 cancellation/change policy.

what if i dont cancel? Do DS and I get to share the 3rd seat? Do I get the luggage allowance for that seat?
I think I paid $186 so if the penalty is $100 I may get $86 back
I better call

BE SURE TO CALL THE AIR LINE IMMEDIATELY! E2U is correct they did just change the rules. I do all the travel arrangements for my office and when purchasing the last tickets the TA made sure to bring me up to speed on the change. The $100 dollar change fee (plus the difference in ticket price if any) is still in effect; however, you must change your reservation before the original date of departure. If not, the ticket becomes invalid.

My TA said the only reason he could figure for the change (this aside from security reasons) was to force customers to pay the $100 change fee twice.

For instance, if you can't travel on the original dates you must make future reservations whether or not you know for certain when you'll be traveling. Then as the new date approaches if you can't travel then you must change the reservation once again....at another $100.

My question for him (when I call today for more tickets) is how does travel insurance factor into the picture.

SeaShelley - that $200 is more than the cost of the original ticket. Maybe DS and I will hang onto DHs seat and share the extra space. What do they do in that case?

With all the overbooking they do on airlines, I doubt you'll have any extra room. Any chance you could change DH's mind? Especially when he sees how much $$ you would be losing!!

Again, call the airline and see if they have any other suggestions.

Called Delta - they wait 20mins before boarding then give out the seat if ticketed passanger hasnt checked in
Penalty is $100 so $89 would go onto his Skymiles act to be used 1 yr from when we bought the ticket - so that would only be good until March
Not planning on flying within that timeframe so I think we may forfeit his ticket and take our chances that the seat doesnt fill up - ya right?!

and - it's only 2 luggage per person, not seat - if we carry on 1 item we can only check in 1 item - 2 total - I dont really think DS10 and I could handle more than 2 large suitcases and our backpacks anyways

Delta only allows 1 carry on and 1 checked bag? I think USAir allows 1 carry on (plus a purse or diaper bag) and 2 checked bags.

they said this was a new change just this past month
back of the e-ticket says 3 bags total - lady said no it was just changed

Domestic U.S. Baggage Allowances
Delta accepts a maximum of two checked baggage items free of charge for each ticketed passenger, in addition to the one carry-on, plus one personal item. These guidelines do not apply to Delta's codeshare partners or Delta Shuttle. Additional restrictions may apply on certain flights*.

Check two bags and carry on one bag, plus one personal item

*Customers traveling to or from Key West, Florida are limited to 1 checked bag.

BTW--my DH travels on Delta literally almost every week and he's not heard of them changing the policy (but then, he rarely checks any baggage.....)

ahhh - I love when service reps tell you different info
happened to me yesterday with DVC

So what happened?? and what is the fee???
