Canceling w/ TA but without losing Reservations

We've booked our trip with tour & dining reservations through a TA. I'm no longer willing to work with the TA. Is there a way to call Disney and transfer the dining & tour reservations to my new hotel reservation? I'd also like to switch my deposits. Can that be done, or would I need to wait on a refund and give a new deposit?

Also, if you book with a TA do you need to deal with them once you arrive at Disney? For example, if the hotel room is 'wrong' or you need to change a dining reservation, are you forced to go through the TA or can you just work with the Disney staff?

Dining and tour reservations are not part of your package (regardless of how the TA may have explained it to you). They're linked to you, not a specific reservation. You can cancel the package you booked with the TA without losing those reservations. You don't need to call Disney to transfer dining or tour reservations from one resprt reservation to another. You can book dining reservations and tours without staying at Disney resorts.

Note that if you gave your TA access to your MDE account to make your ADRs, you probably want to change the password on the account before you cancel your package so that he or she can't go in and change or cancel them.

Wow! You're right, that's not what I was told. What about tickets to hard ticket events, like MNSSHP?

Did you edit your post to add this paragraph? I didn't see it originally.

Anyway, no, you don't need a TA for any of that. If you have a problem with your room, you talk to the front desk (and walk down and talk to someone face-to-face...if you call from you're room, you're actually talking to a call center, not the front desk). If you want to change dining, you either do it yourself in your My Disney Experience account (you do have one set up, right?) or ask the conceirge at your resort for help.

It really seems like your TA mislead you. There's nothing a TA can do that you can't do yourself.

I did, sorry about that. You've been wonderfully helpful. And to answer your question, yes I was told if when I arrived there was a problem with the room, my MB didn't work, etc. all of that would have to be handled through the TA.

Totally untrue.

No problem.

Yeah, your TA wasn't being entirely truthful. In fact, if there are any problems with your MB (BTDT) they have to be reset in person. There's nothing your TA could do other than call someone, who would tell her to tell you to go down and have someone fix your MB. Room assignments are done at the resort, so they'd have to be handled in person as well.

OP, heed this warning to change your MDE account password. I have read instances on here where a TA went in and cancelled all client's ADRs (out of spite was the assumption).

Also, I know the lead name on ADRs cannot be modified, but perhaps the phone number associated can? If so, I would definitely do that as well in case the TA tries to cancel your ADRs via your linked phone number.

I have nothing else to add but to tell you not to let the TA mess up your Disney experience. We also had a bad experience with a TA planning our Disney vacation BUT it was wonderful once we got to Disney. Have a blast!

I would also talk to someone from Vacation planning about you former TA. They have you a ton of false information. This something WDW takes wry serious when deciding which TAs get the WDW seal of approval.

Thanks for all your kind words, but an update... There's nothing stopping a TA who wants to be mean from calling up reservations and canceling every single reservation you have. I just checked MDE and all my ADRs were gone. Thankfully, when I called the reservations line they were able to pull up the cancellations and reinstate them. More importantly, they found a number of reservations made to places with a cancellation fee like the CA Grill that I didn't know anything about.

Hoping you're right! I'm trying to put all of this out of my mind.

OMG, that is outrageous! Seriously. I am so sorry that you went through that, but so happy that they were able to reinstate them for you. Please do as Buzzin suggested and report the TA to the appropriate department at Disney. She should not be allowed to identify herself as a "Disney" TA with behavior like that.

And change the password on your MDX account, if you gave the TA access to that account.

What on Earth?! First, I'm wondering what this TA did to upset you enough to cut ties. I'm guessing something bad because I used a TA (friend) last trip and there was very little she COULD have done other than canceling our whole vacation or something. Second, how crazy must she be to go around trying to sabotage your vacation? She HAS to know that she could be reported for unethical business practices!

I don't know about you but I would call my credit card company and have them block my card and reissue a new number.

That is OUTRAGEOUS! She could be in HUGE trouble if she is using your credit card for things you didn't authorize. I would issue a complaint immediately!

Also, if you didnt do so already, make a complaint directly to Disney and have a note put on your reservations. Make sure you are clear that NO ONE should be authorized to change them except for you!

If this agent works for an Earmarked (or Disney authorized) agency, there will be BIG problems for not only the agent, but the agency. I'm wondering if your agent is actually an Earmarked agent?
Disney wants to know if any of their Earmarked agencies are doing anything against policy, so I would DEFINITELY report the agent and the agency to Disney. They take this kind of thing VERY seriously.

You were given LOADS of incorrect info and I'm so sorry to read not just your post, but others here who had a hard or awful time booking with a TA.

I'm glad you were able to get back your ressies that were canceled!!

Op, sorry you are going through this. I figured the TA would get ugly and call in once they realized they were blocked online. :sad2:

Not sure if you understand, but outside of your online account your ADRs are tied to your phone number and individual confirmation numbers. I was hoping you could change the phone number associated just in case the TA tried to call in by using your phone number and didn't have access to the confirmation numbers. But now I'm understanding the TA holds the confirmation numbers via email secured using your CC.

Unfortunately, there's nothing stopping them from cancelling again if they have access to the phone/confirmation numbers.

So watch your account like a hawk since the same confirmation numbers were reinstated. Change your password, phone number, CC number... and report, report, report!

Regardless of what went down between you guys, I'm not really sure how any TA could think such spiteful, retaliatory behavior wouldn't come back to bite her in the you know what. I mean, it's horrible behavior even with no repercussions, but in the TA world, word of mouth is HUGE for business. I can't imagine that behaving so immaturely could result in anything but future lost business.

Unbelievable. I'm really sorry to hear this, OP.

Um, I hope you realize that ALL ADRs charge a $10 per person cancellation fee if you cancel less than 24 hours out. Every single one.
